Giants | Jake Peavy to pitch Friday

Tue, 19 May 2015 17:23:19 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (back) said he is aiming to make a rehab start for Class A San Jose (Calif.) Friday, May 22. Peavy will throw one inning.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) remains a ways away from a return. Peavy will be worth stashing in NL-only leagues, but owners in mixed leagues could make better use of the roster space.

Giants | Jake Peavy improving

Tue, 19 May 2015 16:34:26 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (back) threw a bullpen session Tuesday, May 19, after a "good week" in Arizona. Peavy has been undergoing physical therapy and threw to hitters Saturday, May 16.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) remains without a firm timetable, but owners in NL-only leagues and deep mixed leagues could consider an early stash.

Giants | Jake Peavy progressing

Wed, 13 May 2015 15:49:50 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (back) threw a 50-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, May 12, and will throw another light bullpen Thursday, May 14. Peavy's next step will be to face hitters in extended spring training.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is much closer to a return than Matt Cain (elbow), and Peavy could wind up bumping Ryan Vogelsong back to a relief role. Peavy is nothing more than a matchup play at FantasyScore when he returns, and it'd be wise to avoid him in his first start back, at least.

Giants | Jake Peavy trying to accelerate rehab

Sat, 09 May 2015 15:28:23 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (back) will spend the next week trying to accelerate his rehab at the club's facility in Scottsdale, Arizona, and he will throw off a bullpen mound Tuesday, May 12.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is worth stashing in NL-only leagues, but he shouldn't be on many rosters in mixed leagues of 14 teams or less.

Giants | Jake Peavy to throw Friday

Wed, 06 May 2015 21:39:21 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (back) is slated to a throw a bullpen session Friday, May 8, and he is then likely to go on a minor-league rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy ($3,800; 7.6% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore until he can officially return and prove his health in a start or two without any lingering effects of his injury.

Giants | Jake Peavy throws bullpen session

Wed, 06 May 2015 10:03:56 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (back, hip) threw his first bullpen session Tuesday, May 5, and felt fine

Fantasy Tip: Peavy is inching closer to returning, but he's really a fringe mixed league starter. Stash him if you have space.

Giants | Jake Peavy moving to bullpens

Mon, 04 May 2015 16:26:12 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (back) is hoping to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, May 5, before moving to rehab games. He is receiving daily chiropractic and strength work on his back.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) will likely return to the starting rotation and bump Ryan Vogelsong back to a long-relief role when he's ready. However, at Peavy's age, the Giants likely won't rush him back. Peavy is strictly an NL-only commodity that should only be chosen at FantasyScore if the matchup is juicy.

Giants | Jake Peavy throws Saturday

Sat, 02 May 2015 11:01:59 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (back) threw 20-25 fastballs at 70-80 percent during a bullpen session Saturday, May 2, and reportedly felt improvement in his lower back. It was the first time he had thrown off a mound since landing on the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: It is uncertain if Peavy ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) will be sent on a minor league rehab assignment before he is activated from the disabled list. Regardless of what happens, FantasyScore owners should monitor the results of his first game back before seriously considering him as a pitching option.

Giants | Jake Peavy throws bullpen session

Fri, 01 May 2015 17:30:32 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (back) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, May 2.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy is making his way back from a strained lower back. It's uncertain if he will need to go out on a minor-league rehab stint or if he will be activated from the DL when eligible in a few days. Either way, FantasyScore owners need to wait to see him officially return and make his way through a full start without lingering effects of the injury before trusting him again.

Giants | Jake Peavy has lower back strain

Sun, 19 Apr 2015 12:24:57 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (back) was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a lower back strain. He had been scheduled to make his next start against the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, April 23. Manager Bruce Bochy is uncertain how his spot in the rotation will be filled but the club could turn to Ryan Vogelsong or Yusmeiro Petit for a spot start or promote a starter from the minors. Bochy also mentioned the team could use a four-man rotation for the next week but it would require some of their starters to pitch on short rest.

Fantasy Tip: It is still uncertain how much time Peavy is expected to miss. Both Vogelsong ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) and Petit have struggled this season and neither pitcher would make a viable FantasyScore option Thursday.
