Giants | Jake Peavy has lower back strain

Sun, 19 Apr 2015 12:24:57 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (back) was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a lower back strain. He had been scheduled to make his next start against the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, April 23. Manager Bruce Bochy is uncertain how his spot in the rotation will be filled but the club could turn to Ryan Vogelsong or Yusmeiro Petit for a spot start or promote a starter from the minors. Bochy also mentioned the team could use a four-man rotation for the next week but it would require some of their starters to pitch on short rest.

Fantasy Tip: It is still uncertain how much time Peavy is expected to miss. Both Vogelsong ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) and Petit have struggled this season and neither pitcher would make a viable FantasyScore option Thursday.

Giants | Jake Peavy to DL

Sat, 18 Apr 2015 15:04:32 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (undisclosed) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, April 18. C Andrew Susac was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy was ineffective in his first start, and there's no word on the specific nature of the DL stint. It could be related to the back issue that delayed his start to the season. Ryan Vogelsong ($3,200, 6.4% of your cap) could re-enter the rotation, but he has given up 12 earned runs in 10 1/3 innings thus far.

Giants | Jake Peavy's back improving

Thu, 09 Apr 2015 10:14:36 -0700

Updating previous reports, San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (back) will avoid the disabled list after trainers relieved the irritation of the sacroiliac joint in his back. Peavy received a massage deep enough to bruise his back, and the trainers are believed to have unlocked the joint. He'll throw a bullpen session Thursday, April 9, as the final hurdle in order to make his start Sunday, April 12.

Fantasy Tip: Ordinarily, a start in PETCO Park would be a fruitful matchup. The Padres have scored 4.7 runs per game through the first three. At $4,400 (8.8% of your cap), the price might not be right for Peavy after the back woes.

Giants | Jake Peavy on track to start Sunday

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 17:00:29 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (back) is on track to start Sunday, April 12, according to manager Bruce Bochy.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) was originally scheduled to start Tuesday, but he was scratched. Until Peavy proves his health on the hill, he can be bypassed in a matchup against the San Diego Padres on Sunday.

Giants | Jake Peavy headed to DL

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 05:37:51 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (back) is likely headed to the disabled list because of continued back spasms Tuesday, April 7.

Fantasy Tip: Yusmeiro Petit ($3,000, 6.0% of your cap) could be next into the rotation. He pitched a couple of gems in spot starts last season and would be a nice low-end flyer on FantasyScore.

Giants | Jake Peavy throws in bullpen

Tue, 07 Apr 2015 19:22:38 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (back) was able to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, April 7. He is on track to make his first scheduled start of the season Sunday, April 12, against the San Diego Padres.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy was originally penciled in to start Tuesday, but he was scratched Monday due to a sore back. FantasyScore owners will want to be really careful with Peavy at $4,400 (or 8.8% of cap). Let him pitch and make it through a full start without any setbacks before trusting him again.

Giants | Jake Peavy scratched from start

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 23:01:22 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (back) was scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday, April 7, against the Arizona Diamondbacks due to a back injury. He is hopeful of making his next scheduled start Sunday, April 12, against the San Diego Padres.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan Vogelsong will take the ball Tuesday. At $3,000 (or 6.0% of cap) he is a nice FantasyScore value against a Diamondbacks team which is just 6-19 in their past 25 games against the Giants.

Giants | Jake Peavy listed as Tuesday starter

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 12:47:44 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (arm) is listed as the starting pitcher for the game against the Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday, April 7.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) has been dealing with dead arm, so owners should monitor the situation to see if he will still pitch. Owners on FantasyScore may want to avoid Peavy because of his uncertain status.

Giants | Jake Peavy may be push back

Sun, 05 Apr 2015 09:36:32 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (arm) may have his first start of the season pushed back since he has been dealing with dead arm during spring training. Peavy likely would start the sixth game of the season if he is given more time to prepare his arm. SP Ryan Vogelsong would start the second game of the season if Peavy is pushed back.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should monitor the situation to see when Peavy ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) will be able to pitch. Owners on FantasyScore may want to avoid Peavy until he is able to make a few starts and show his arm is fine. Vogelsong ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) probably is not the best option for owners.

Giants | Jake Peavy experimenting with new pitches

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 11:27:11 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy experimented with a four-seam changeup during his spring outing Monday, March 23, and he also has been trying a new splitter, with limited success, in camp. "I'm going to throw the kitchen sink at them," Peavy said. "I've watched guys in the league reinvent themselves. I watched Roger Clemens go from a four-seam (fastball)-and-curveball guy to sinker-split. I've watched guys grow as the game changes. You feel like if you can do different things to combat your opponent, why not?"

Fantasy Tip: Peavy, 33, is nearing the end of a successful career, so many fantasy owners probably aren't selecting him in standard 12-team mixed leagues. He was surprisingly better, though, after moving to San Fran from Boston in 2014, and he can still be useful in the right matchups despite a declining K/9 rate. Peavy is worth considering at FantasyScore if the matchup dictates.
