Giants | Jake Peavy's spot not in jeopardy

Sun, 22 May 2016 19:07:38 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy's spot in the rotation is not in jeopardy, according to manager Bruce Bochy. "I don't have a leash on him right now, so I don't know how long," Bochy said. "Jake, he's going to be fine. He had a hiccup in his last start. He's had a couple of good ones too."

Fantasy Tip: Peavy sports an ugly 8.21 ERA, and you can afford to let him sit on waivers while he tries to find his form.

Giants | Jake Peavy has short outing

Sat, 21 May 2016 06:32:12 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy allowed five runs on seven hits in 1 2/3 innings against the Chicago Cubs Friday, May 20, to suffer his fifth loss of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy has struggled this season and currently has an 8.21 ERA. He has pitched at least six innings in only three of his nine starts this season. He is scheduled to face the San Diego Padres in his next start and is a decent option despite his recent struggles.

Giants | Jake Peavy, Matt Cain in jeopardy?

Mon, 09 May 2016 15:46:56 -0700

San Francisco Giants SPs Jake Peavy and Matt Cain have to be in danger of being bumped for the rotation based on their performance so far, in the opinion of the San Francisco Chronicle's Henry Schulman. Both pitchers face the Toronto Blue Jays this week in their next test. It'll be hard for the Giants to trade either of them, as they'd have to eat a big chunk of money.

Fantasy Tip: The way these veterans have been pitching, only those in deep NL-only leagues should still have them on roster. The matchup this week against the Jays isn't ideal, either, so look to avoid both struggling and aging starters.

Giants | Another stinker for Jake Peavy

Wed, 04 May 2016 16:06:34 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy surrendered seven runs and eight hits, including four home runs, in six innings in a loss to the Cincinnati Reds Wednesday, May 4. He struck out eight and walked one while raising his ERA to 9.00 in six starts. Peavy had been 7-0 with a 2.38 ERA in 12 career starts against the Reds. Peavy allowed three home runs in one inning in the game.

Fantasy Tip: It's clear Peavy isn't fooling anyone. The 34-year-old is nearing the end of his career and had allowed just two home runs in his previous five starts. He's allowed at least four earned runs in all but one of his starts, however. Peavy could be in danger of being ousted from San Fran's rotation if he keeps pitching like this. His ownership should be limited to NL-only universes.

Giants | Jake Peavy blasted at Citi Field

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 22:52:51 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy allowed six earned runs, four hits and five walks in just two innings in a loss Friday, April 29, against the New York Mets.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy's ERA ballooned to 8.61, and he has just one quality start in five outings so far. He is also 0-2 with an 18.00 ERA in two road outings. The good news is he has given up just two homers over 21 innings, but he has a 2.00 WHIP and he needs to become less hittable before he can be relied upon again in most fantasy formats.

Giants | Jake Peavy with another rough start

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 23:07:14 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings in his no-decision Monday, April 18, against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Fantasy Tip: He has now allowed 14 runs and 28 hits with 10 K's in 14 innings this year. He could be in danger of heading to the pen and can't be used in fantasy right now.

Giants | Jake Peavy likes facing L.A.

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 15:05:00 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy is 14-3 with a 2.38 ERA in 29 career starts against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He faces the Dodgers in San Francisco's home opener Thursday, April 7.

Fantasy Tip: Don't read too much into this. While Peavy can be useful in spot starts occasionally in daily games, he's strictly an NL-only option in traditional leagues.

Giants | Jake Peavy fans eight Tuesday

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 15:51:52 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy struck out eight batters in 4 2/3 innings against the Chicago White Sox Tuesday, March 22, but he also allowed four runs in the outing.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy finished the season strong last year, but at age 35, injuries are a major concern. A fortunate hit rate probably saved him in the second half, and he has no upside left at this stage. Peavy is mainly an NL-only option, and he can be useful for spot starts in daily games.

Giants | Jake Peavy ends on high note

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 17:59:05 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy allowed one run on four hits and struck out two over five innings in a win over the Colorado Rockies Saturday, Oct. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) is 5-0 in his last eight starts, and he has allowed two runs or less in five straight starts. The veteran seems to have something left in the tank, and he could have some value as a sleeper when 2016 rolls around.

Giants | Jake Peavy throws six scoreless innings

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 00:16:52 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy threw six scoreless innings Wednesday, Sept. 23, but picked up no decision as the San Diego Padres rallied for a 5-4 victory.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) has not been the best of pitchers on the road, as his best numbers (5-2, 3.40) have come in San Francisco. Still, this was a decent outing that might be worth watching in the season's final 10 days.
