Reds | Jose Peraza at 2B Friday

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 12:02:20 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Jose Peraza is starting at second base and is hitting ninth against Houston Astros SP Lance McCullers Friday, June 17. 2B Brandon Phillips is serving as the designated hitter in an American League park.

Fantasy Tip: Peraza is a top prospect that has plenty of speed to burn. For that reason alone he can be useful in deep mixed and NL-only leagues, but how much he'll play remains to be seen. He should be in the lineup regularly this weekend with the Reds able to use an extra bat. His DFS utility is limited hitting ninth tonight, but he's 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts the past two games.

Reds | Brandon Phillips returns to action

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 15:38:13 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (foot) is back in the starting lineup and is hitting third against Colorado Rockies SP Eddie Butler Thursday, June 2. That'll push OF Billy Hamilton to seventh in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: You'll want to return Phillips to your lineups immediately so you don't miss out on a start at hitter-friendly Coors Field. He could be an under-the-radar pick in DFS because of his recent ailment. Hamilton loses some daily luster with a move back down the order. His only real fantasy asset is his speed, and he still struggles to find ways on base.

Reds | Still no Brandon Phillips

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 15:04:30 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (foot) is out of the starting lineup for the second straight day Wednesday, June 1. 2B Ivan De Jesus is starting at second base and is batting seventh against Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood. Also, OF Billy Hamilton is in the two-hole again.

Fantasy Tip: Phillips has a bruised foot, so he could be back any day now. Hamilton gains some daily value hitting atop the order, as he'll have more chances to utilize his only strength, his speed. He's still more of a low-end option, however. De Jesus is hitting only .210 with a homer and seven RBI and has just five home runs in his four-year career. Avoid him Wednesday.

Tue, 31 May 2016 16:54:03 -0700

Reds | Billy Hamilton, Jose Peraza in lineup

Tue, 17 May 2016 11:05:25 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Billy Hamilton returns to the starting lineup and is hitting second against Cleveland Indians SP Danny Salazar Tuesday, May 17. 2B Jose Peraza draws a start at second base and is batting eighth. 2B Brandon Phillips is serving as the designated hitter in an American League park.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton missed a handful of games while on the bereavement list. Get him back into seasonal lineups for his speed. The second spot in the lineup boosts his value for steals. Peraza also has appeal for his speed and should've been added in deep mixed and NL-only leagues. Unfortunately he's a low-end option in DFS sitting that low in the order in a tough matchup tonight.

Reds | Joey Votto sitting out

Wed, 11 May 2016 11:25:15 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto is out of the lineup Wednesday, May 11, with 2B Brandon Phillips moving up to the three-hole. 1B Jordan Pacheco is hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: BP has a .333-5-9 line the last week. Digest that, and plug him in against Juan Nicasio today. Pacheco is hitting .241 without an RBI and isn't worth much consideration.

Reds | Brandon Phillips launches two home runs

Sun, 08 May 2016 06:08:06 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs during the Reds' 13-7 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday, May 7.

Fantasy Tip: Phillips is off to a solid start with 16 runs, six home runs, 16 RBI, three stolen bases and a .297/.324/.554 slash line, and health permitting, the veteran stands to return another solid fantasy season. He is a viable starting option at the keystone in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Reds | Brandon Phillips heating up

Thu, 05 May 2016 18:50:19 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips finished 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and three RBI in a win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday, May 05.

Fantasy Tip: That's consecutive games with a homer for the 34-year-old, who had left the yard once over his first 23 contests. Phillips is batting .293 and seems to have a firm hold of the No. 4 spot in the order behind Joey Votto and in front of Jay Bruce and Eugenio Suarez. Even in his mid-30s, the three-time All-Star brings a nice mix of power and speed to a weak fantasy position. Owners can do much worse than him at a middle infield spot.

Reds | Brandon Phillips back in HR column

Wed, 04 May 2016 16:11:10 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips hit his second home run of the season against the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, May 4, and his first in 22 games since April 8. Phillips went 2-for-4 in the game with a run scored and RBI and is now hitting .281 on the year.

Fantasy Tip: The veteran isn't flashy, but he continues to contribute across the board with two home runs, eight RBI and three stolen bases. Phillips remains relevant in the majority of fantasy leagues.
