St. Louis Cardinals 2B Mark Ellis (oblique) will not go on a rehab assignment before he returns to the team. The team hopes Ellis will be able to come off the 15-day disabled list at some point next week. He has been hitting off a tee but has not been cleared to start swinging without restriction.

The St. Louis Cardinals have placed 2B Kolten Wong (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list because of shoulder soreness. The team also recalled OF Shane Robinson from Triple-A Memphis.
Fantasy Tip: Mark Ellis likely will receive most of the time at second base while Wong is out, but probably is only an option in NL-only leagues.

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong (shoulder) is out of the lineup Friday, June 6, and may miss the entire series in order to rest his shoulder. He received an anti-inflammatory shot.

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong (shoulder) is out of the lineup Wednesday, June 4, and OF Matt Holliday is serving as the designated hitter. Holliday is 12-for-52 (.231) with two home runs in his career as a DH. Wong bruised his left shoulder trying to make a diving play Tuesday, June 3. 2B Mark Ellis is starting at the keystone.
Fantasy Tip: Wong's injury doesn't seem serious, so there is a good chance he's back in the starting lineup in a day or two.

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Mark Ellis will serve as the starting second baseman after the team sent 2B Kolten Wong to the minors.
Fantasy Tip: The guaranteed playing time makes Ellis much more attractive in NL-only leagues as middle infield insurance. Wong is still in the plans as the starter at the keystone down the road, so Ellis is just keeping the seat warm.

The St. Louis Cardinals have optioned 2B Kolten Wong to Triple-A Memphis.
Fantasy Tip: Mark Ellis and Daniel Descalso likely will see time at second base for the foreseeable future, but neither is more than an option in NL-only leagues.

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong has been struggling of late, and 2B Mark Ellis has capitalized with more playing time; he made his third start in four games Monday, April 21. Manager Mike Matheny said Ellis' start against a righty Monday was "a great example" of how the team intends to use him - as a right-handed complement to Wong. Wong's average is down from .280 to .237, and he has four strikeouts in eight games. He said he's been "out of synch and rushing" lately.
Fantasy Tip: Matheny is choosing to ride the sure thing in Ellis over a struggling Wong. Wong owners in mixed leagues need to take note. Until Wong can regain the confidence in his swing and of his skipper, he's primarily an NL-only commodity.

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong isn't in the lineup Tuesday, April 15. 2B Mark Ellis is starting in his place.
Fantasy Tip: Odd, because they're facing right-hander Marco Estrada, but the youngster will get days off like this now and then. No worries for the long term.
