Colorado Rockies RP Matt Belisle is excited about the increased competition heading into the season. The team added several arms to the back end of the bullpen during the offseason. Belisle, who is just one of two pitchers to appear more than 70 times in each of the past four seasons, will compete with RPs Wilton Lopez and Adam Ottavino for a role in the bullpen from the right side. Belisle expressed that he is "extremely fortunate" that manager Walt Weiss shows confidence in him. He also said that many of his late-season struggles came from predictable patterns, especially against familiar hitters. He plans to use his changeup to combat that.

The Colorado Rockies exercised RP Matt Belisle's $4.25 million option for the 2014 season Monday, Nov. 4. There are no current plans to work out a long-term extension, however, but the team isn't looking to trade him. Belisle went 5-7 with a 4.32 ERA this year. The team also reinstated SP Christian Friedrich (back) from the 60-day disabled list.

The Colorado Rockies have listened to offers for RPs Matt Belisle, Rafael Betancourt and Josh Outman. However, they have been telling teams they're not sure if they're ready to sell in the days leading up to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, and might wait until August and try for deals that would require waivers.

Colorado Rockies RPs Rafael Betancourt and Matt Belisle are available for trade, according to ESPN and MLB Network Radio's Jim Bowden.
Fantasy Tip: This might be a first mention of Betancourt, this season, from a respected source. KFFL has been for a while stating this possibility -- based on the fact that he was available at least year's deadline, too -- as a reason to hold Rex Brothers through the deadline or longer.

Colorado Rockies manager Walt Weiss is unsure who he'll turn to Wednesday, May 22, if a save situation arises with RP Rafael Betancourt (groin) unavailable. RPs Rex Brothers, Wilton Lopez or Matt Belisle are all options, but Weiss could play the matchups.
Fantasy Tip: Brothers is likely to receive the first crack at a save situation, unless Weiss plays the matchups in the ninth. If you already own Brothers in a deep league, hang onto him a bit longer until we know for sure that Betancourt is out of the woods. It's probably not worth adding Brothers otherwise.

Colorado Rockies RP Wilton Lopez will serve as a setup man along with RPs Matt Belisle and Rex Brothers. Lopez will be more of a one-inning pitcher and he could also spell RP Rafael Betancourt in the ninth if he needs a breather.

Colorado Rockies SP Drew Pomeranz an RPs Adam Ottavino, Matt Belisle and Rafael Betancourt combined for a five-hit shutout of the Los Angeles Dodgers Monday, Aug. 6. Pomeranz allowed three hits and three walks while fanning seven in four scoreless innings.

The Colorado Rockies have received inquiries about the availability of RPs Rafael Betancourt, Matt Belisle and Matt Reynolds but have told teams they would have to be bowled over by an offer to trade any of the relievers.

Colorado Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd said OF Carlos Gonzalez won't be traded before the trade deadline. "The Carlos Gonzalez thing is a joke," O'Dowd said. "We're not trading Carlos Gonzalez." Washington Nationals GM Mike Rizzo reportedly called with interest in Gonzalez and was turned down. OF Michael Cuddyer is unlikely to go anywhere, either. OF Dexter Fowler is unlikely to be moved, but O'Dowd did not call him untouchable. RPs Rafael Betancourt and Matt Belisle are unlikely to be traded as well, per O'Dowd. SP Jeremy Guthrie, 1B Jason Giambi and SS Marco Scutaro are the most likely to be traded if anyone goes this summer.
