Dodgers | Carl Crawford has torn oblique

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 15:44:33 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford (oblique) has a torn oblique and is going on the disabled list. He received a cortisone shot.

Fantasy Tip: Crawford said it's a serious injury, and he's unsure of a timetable for a return. You'd have to imagine that he'll be out well past the two-week DL window. That opens up a clear path to more playing time for Alex Guerrero ($1,900, 3.8% of cap), who should now be owned in all leagues. The Cuban already has five home runs and 13 RBI in just 22 at-bats. However, he makes for a weak play tonight against San Francisco Giants starter Madison Bumgarner.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford leaves game

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 22:16:33 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford (side) left the game Monday, April 27, against the San Francisco Giants due to tightness in his right side, according to the team.

Fantasy Tip: If Crawford is forced to miss time Alex Guerrero ($1,900; 3.8% of cap) and Scott Van Slyke ($2,000; 4.0% of cap) might see added at-bats to make them decent low-end FantasyScore options.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford out Wednesday

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 15:36:02 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 22. OF Scott Van Slyke is starting in left field and hitting fifth in the batting order against San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner.

Fantasy Tip: Van Slyke ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) surely won't be a popular daily pick tonight against Bumgarner, but he could help you get ahead of your competition at FantasyScore. Besides, Van Slyke hit .315 (34-for-108) with eight of his 11 home runs against lefties in 2014, so he's not a terrible pick. He's also 4-for-13 with four walks in his career against Bumgarner.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford scratched Sunday

Sun, 19 Apr 2015 11:20:37 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford (illness) is not in the starting lineup against the Colorado Rockies Sunday, April 19, because of flu-like symptoms. OF Scott Van Slyke will start in his place in left field.

Fantasy Tip: Crawford ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) will miss his second consecutive start due to illness but could be back in action when the team begins their road trip Tuesday, April 21. Van Slyke ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is a career .300 hitter against Rockies pitching and makes a good sleeper option in FantasyScore.

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 16:43:13 -0700

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford (foot) jammed his foot Tuesday, April 14, but he is still available off the bench Wednesday, April 15.

Fantasy Tip: Crawford ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) still needs to be avoided in all formats Wendesday, but it is encouraging he isn't likely to miss an extended period of time. Expect Crawford to return to the starting lineup against the Colorado Rockies Friday, April 17.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford out Wednesday

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 15:04:35 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 15. OF Scott Van Slyke is starting in left field and hitting sixth in the batting order against Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker.

Fantasy Tip: Van Slyke ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) isn't a bad FantasyScore option against Walker, who struggled mightily in his season debut last week. Last year, Van Slyke managed to hit .279 with three of his 11 home runs against right-handers in 104 at-bats.

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford is not in the starting lineup against Seattle Mariners left-handed SP J.A. Happ Monday, April 13. OF Scott Van Slyke is starting in left field and hitting fifth in the batting order.

Dodgers | Andre Ethier demands to start

Tue, 24 Feb 2015 11:17:42 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Andre Ethier said he prefers to be traded if he doesn't have a starting outfield job this year. The team's current plans have OF Carl Crawford in left, rookie OF Joc Pederson in center and OF Yasiel Puig in right field, with Ethier as the fourth outfielder. Ethier hit .249 with four home runs and a .691 OPS in 331 at-bats last year, and his production has declined since 2012.

Fantasy Tip: Pederson isn't guaranteed the starting center field job, he'll have to earn it in camp by beating out Ethier. Regardless, Pederson is an up-and-coming prospect that will be taken in the middle rounds of mixed-league drafts, while Ethier is an afterthought. If Ethier is dealt before the start of the season, he could find some value as outfield depth if he lands in the right situation.
