White Sox | Justin Morneau goes deep

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 21:36:58 -0700

Chicago White Sox 1B Justin Morneau hit his first home run in over 14 months, going 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in a 7-5 loss to the Detroit Tigers Friday, July 22.

Fantasy Tip: The sample size is still too small to gauge his true value, but Morneau is worth stashing in AL-only formats for now.

White Sox | Avisail Garcia remains out

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 13:55:15 -0700

Chicago White Sox OF Avisail Garcia remains out of the starting lineup Thursday, July 21, in favor of 1B Justin Morneau at designated hitter. Morneau is batting fifth and facing Detroit Tigers SP Mike Pelfrey.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia, who continues to frustrate fantasy owners with a .234/.309/.332 slash line and only five home runs, could continue to lose playing time at DH to Morneau, making him only an AL-only candidate at this point. Morneau has just three hits in 13 at-bats for the Pale Hose and is a shell of his former self. He's worth a flier, though, in AL leagues if he sees regular at-bats.

White Sox | Tim Anderson, Avisail Garcia out

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 10:01:07 -0700

Chicago White Sox SS Tim Anderson and OF Avisail Garcia are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 20. SS Tyler Saladino is starting at shortstop and hitting ninth, while 1B Justin Morneau is serving as the designated hitter and batting cleanup against Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez. Also, OF Melky Cabrera moves into the two-hole.

Fantasy Tip: There's not much to like about Saladino hitting ninth for DFS purposes against King Felix in his return. However, both Melky and Morneau can be under-the-radar value plays in prime lineup spots. Hernandez has put up good numbers but isn't his usual dominant self this year and is making his first start back today after a long layoff.

White Sox | Avisail Garcia takes a seat

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 15:32:15 -0700

Chicago White Sox OF Avisail Garcia is out of the lineup Saturday, July 16, with 1B Justin Morneau in at DH and hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Morneau takes on Matt Shoemaker, and it's probably not a good decision to use the DFS flyer on the former MVP in his first start this season.

White Sox | Justin Morneau activated

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 10:21:23 -0700

Chicago White Sox 1B Justin Morneau (elbow) was recalled from his injury rehabilitation and activated from the disabled list Friday, July 15. OF Jason Coats was optioned to Class AAA Charlotte.

Fantasy Tip: Morneau had some solid showings with the Colorado Rockies the last couple of years before injuries set in again. He's now 35, and his ceiling figures to be pretty limited. He's worth an AL-only speculative grab, but he's not worth grabbing in mixed leagues for now.

White Sox | Justin Morneau feeling good

Wed, 13 Jul 2016 19:34:29 -0700

Chicago White Sox 1B Justin Morneau (elbow) had a pair of walks and an RBI groundout in a minor-league game Wednesday, July 13, with Class AAA Charlotte. He said after that the elbow feels great.

Fantasy Tip: Morneau is returning from surgery on his left elbow and he should be avoided in all fantasy formats until he can officially return and prove his health in a handful of games without any setbacks.

Chicago White Sox 1B Justin Morneau (elbow) was hitless in two at-bats with a hit by pitch in his second minor-league rehab game with Class AAA Charlotte Tuesday, July 7.

Fantasy Tip: Morneau is making his way back from left elbow surgery and he should be avoided in all fantasy leagues until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game or two without any setbacks.

White Sox | Justin Morneau to start rehab Monday

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 17:24:19 -0700

Chicago White Sox 1B Justin Morneau (elbow) will begin a rehab stint with Class AAA Charlotte Monday, July 4.

Fantasy Tip: Temper expectations, but Morneau is worth stashing in AL-only formats. He could end up providing some unexpected pop down the stretch.

White Sox | Justin Morneau has a return timeline

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 15:57:03 -0700

Chicago White Sox 1B Justin Morneau (elbow) hopes to begin a rehab assignment with Class AAA Charlotte early next week and return to the majors soon after the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: A lack of playing time and age are concerns for the 35-year-old veteran. However, Morneau should be owned in all cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, as he could likely offer modest four-category production over the second half of the season. Just don't expect him to be a fantasy savior.

White Sox | Justin Morneau takes batting practice

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 11:18:39 -0700

Chicago White Sox 1B Justin Morneau (elbow) said he felt good after taking his first round of on-field batting practice Saturday, June 25. Prior to that, he had taken flips on the field in a batting cage earlier this week.

Fantasy Tip: The 35-year-old veteran is unlikely to return to action until after the All-Star break and can still be productive when healthy. He's worth rostering in AL-only fantasy formats and owners in deep mixed leagues should also keep tabs on his progress.
