Sat, 28 May 2016 17:33:32 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Victor Martinez went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored in a 12-3 loss to the Oakland Athletics Saturday, May 28, and he has seven RBI in his last six games.

Fantasy Tip: Martinez is healthy and currently hitting .341. He has limited position eligibility, but he is still worth owning in all formats.

Tigers | Victor Martinez scratched

Wed, 18 May 2016 09:00:00 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Victor Martinez was scratched Wednesday, May 18, with OF Steven Moya hitting sixth. Martinez needed extra rest. 3B Nick Castellanos and OF Justin Upton moved up one spot to cleanup and fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Moya is 6-for-15 (.400) and has some luster against Ricky Nolasco. Castellanos is a daily consideration. Upton is another story. He's hitting .213 this month and .218 on the year. He's a big risk in DFS without a lot of positive signs.

Tigers | Victor Martinez not a K victim

Wed, 11 May 2016 20:07:38 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Victor Martinez went 3-for-4 Wednesday, May 11, against the Washington Nationals, raising his average to .348. He did not strike out, either.

Fantasy Tip: Martinez's performance might have been the most impressive of the season considering Max Scherzer whiffed V-Mart's teammates 20 times.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos out of lineup

Wed, 11 May 2016 12:16:39 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 11, in a National League ballpark. 1B Miguel Cabrera is moving to third base, while 1B Victor Martinez gets the start at first against Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer.

Fantasy Tip: While facing Scherzer, most might be hesitant to use Cabrera or V-Mart in daily leagues, but they can still return value as contrarian picks at high prices. Scherzer has been vulnerable to the long ball with 1.9 home runs allowed per nine innings in 2016.

Tigers | Four-hit game for Victor Martinez

Tue, 10 May 2016 22:45:48 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Victor Martinez went 4-for-5 with a pair of runs scored Tuesday, May 10, against the Washington Nationals to push his average to .333.

Fantasy Tip: A four-hit game is impressive, but when it is four singles without any RBI it can leave fantasy owners wishing for more.

Tigers | Miguel Cabrera out Tuesday

Tue, 10 May 2016 12:47:03 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 10, against the Washington Nationals. 1B Victor Martinez will bat third against Nationals SP Joe Ross.

Fantasy Tip: Two items are at play here. First, Cabrera turned his ankle slightly sliding into second base during the team's game on Monday. Although it looked like he was all right, manager Brad Ausmus may have wanted to give him a night off. In addition, there is no designated hitter because the interleague game is in an NL park. Victor Martinez is in a small slump himself, with a .174 mark in the last week, but he is one of the few hitters to post a .300 average or better for the season and is definitely worth playing in a fantasy lineup.

Tigers | Victor Martinez on the bench

Mon, 09 May 2016 12:53:40 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Victor Martinez is not in the starting lineup against Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg Monday, May 9, because the team is playing in a National League stadium.

Fantasy Tip: Martinez has been used mostly as a designated hitter this season, so he likely will sit out when the team plays in NL stadiums. Martinez is off to a hot start this season and should be a starter in fantasy leagues when he plays.

Tigers | Victor Martinez coming off huge week

Mon, 02 May 2016 12:01:11 -0700

Detroit Tigers DH Victor Martinez went 14-for-27 (.519 batting average) through his past seven games with eight runs, five doubles, three home runs and eight RBI.

Fantasy Tip: Martinez currently leads the American League in OPS (1.072) and has 14 runs, five home runs and 18 RBI to start the season. He is well on his way to a huge rebound showing in 2016, and barring an injury, could be one of the biggest values of spring drafts. Start Martinez confidently going forward.

Tigers | Victor Martinez is on fire

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 23:53:22 -0700

Detroit Tigers DH Victor Martinez collected four hits in five at-bats Friday, April 29, against the Minnesota Twins. He posted a double, solo home run, three runs scored and two RBIs.

Fantasy Tip: Martinez has posted multi-hit efforts in four of his past six, and he has hit safely in 11 of the past 13 games. He is hitting .353 (18-for-53) with eight runs scored, six doubles, three homers and 11 RBIs during the 13-game span. Needless to say he has re-emerged as a must-start fantasy option in all formats and DFS play.

Tigers | V-Mart deposits one into seats

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 21:17:03 -0700

Detroit Tigers DH Victor Martinez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Monday, April 25, against the Oakland Athletics.

Fantasy Tip: Martinez has three homers and 11 RBIs in the month of April. When he stays healthy he can still be a fantasy force, but over the past couple of seasons he has had a difficult time staying in the lineup.
