Nationals | Jayson Werth to swing Saturday

Sat, 28 Mar 2015 08:13:45 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (shoulder) is scheduled to take swings against a batting practice pitcher Saturday, March 28. He said he is feeling soreness in his shoulder because he is building up strength in the shoulder. Werth is still not ruling out opening day even though he knows he is running out of time.

Fantasy Tip: Werth ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) is working his way back from his offseason shoulder surgery but may not be ready for the first few games of the season. Owners on FantasyScore probably should avoid Werth until he is regularly in the lineup.

Nationals | Jayson Werth dealing with soreness

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 12:50:38 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (shoulder) is dealing with soreness in his surgically repaired shoulder when he tries to hit, according to manager Matt Williams. Werth has been cleared to swing a regular bat but is not cleared for full batting practice.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Werth ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) may not be ready for the start of the regular season but likely would not miss a lot of games because of his shoulder. Owners could consider selecting Werth in the middle rounds of drafts if he is available. Owners on FantasyScore may want to see how he plays in a few games before using him.

Nationals | Jayson Werth making progress

Sun, 22 Mar 2015 09:21:25 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (shoulder) is scheduled to play five innings of defense in a minor league game Sunday, March 22. Werth could take some at-bats by Tuesday, March 24, or Wednesday, March 25.

Fantasy Tip: Werth is working his way back from offseason shoulder surgery but his status for the start of the regular season is still uncertain at this point. Werth likely will be available in the middle rounds of drafts and could be a good bargain if other owners are scared off by his injury.

Nationals | Jayson Werth takes BP

Tue, 17 Mar 2015 11:57:55 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (shoulder) took batting practice Tuesday, March 17, and said he was a bit sore. He also threw without any problems Tuesday, and his hitting is ahead of schedule. He's hoping to play defense in a minor league game by the end of the week so he can get comfortable with his move to left field. Werth is still pushing to be ready on opening day April 6.

Fantasy Tip: Most drafters are likely skeptical of Werth in 2015 after he underwent right shoulder surgery. That just means he could be a nice bargain in the middle rounds of drafts, and he's a good bet to return to 20 home runs if he's fully healthy.

Nationals | Jayson Werth progressing

Wed, 11 Mar 2015 10:55:31 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (shoulder) is scheduled to take part in light tossing and swinging Wednesday, March 11. He is still hoping to be ready for opening day. "He is progressing as normal. It's going to be a process, of course. He will get a baseball in his hand today," manager Matt Williams said.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to keep tabs on Werth's progress this spring as we approach the regular season. Werth's draft stock is such that he'll present you with a profit opportunity in the middle rounds because many owners may be scared away from his injury. Even if Werth isn't ready for opening day, he could provide you with a nice value for your outfield corps.

Fantasy Tip: Werth's status for the start of the regular season is unknown at this point, so owners should monitor the situation over the next few weeks. Werth could be an option in the middle rounds of mixed league drafts if he does not have any setbacks.

Nationals | Jayson Werth not at 100%

Thu, 26 Feb 2015 15:25:07 -0800

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (shoulder) took part in outfield drills Thursday, Feb. 26, but he's not at 100% yet following offseason shoulder surgery. General manager Mike Rizzo is optimistic that Werth will be ready for opening day, and Werth sounded cautiously optimistic. "We've really got to get to that eight week point before you can really ramp up anything, and then again, it's eight to 12 weeks before you can really get back to normal activity," Werth said. Manager Matt Williams thinks Werth will likely start hitting before throwing, although there's no timetable. OF Nate McLouth (shoulder), who would be Werth's replacement if he's not ready, is also working back from shoulder surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Werth's injury and recovery will be a big reason why he falls several rounds in drafts this year. Continue to monitor him this spring, and don't be surprised if he comes out of the gates slow in 2015. However, if he remains healthy, he could return some nice value in the middle rounds of fantasy drafts.

Nationals | Jayson Werth to be behind

Wed, 25 Feb 2015 11:41:02 -0800

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (shoulder) remains in the rehab process this spring and "will be a little late to get started," according to manager Matt Williams.

Fantasy Tip: Werth will typically fall in your drafts, and his injury will compound that effect. Keep tabs on his progress this spring. If he doesn't have any setbacks, he'll make for a fine value in the middle rounds as a candidate to return to the 20-home run mark and steal something close to double-digit bases.

Nationals | Jayson Werth should be ready for Opening Day

Sun, 22 Feb 2015 05:02:19 -0800

Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth (shoulder) is expected to be ready for Opening Day following offseason shoulder surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Werth's fantasy value could take a hit early on as he recovers from the surgery and offseason legal issues. He was a .292-16-82 hitter a year ago, but he had his fewest homers in a full season since 2011. His power may be slipping.
