Panthers | Carruth's son injured in car accident

Steve Lyttle, of the Charlotte Observer, reports the 6-year-old son of former Carolina Panthers WR Rae Carruth suffered minor injuries Friday night, June 30, when a van in which he was riding was struck by a motorist fleeing police. Chancellor Adams and his grandmother, Saundra Adams, were hurt when the fleeing motorist struck their minivan. Chancellor's mother, Cherica Adams, was shot while driving in her car in November 1999. She died a month later, after implicating her boyfriend, Carruth, in the shooting.

Panthers | Court denies Carruth's mom more time with grandson

The Associated Press reports a judge did the right thing in denying a request from former Carolina Panthers WR Rae Carruth's mother to spend more time with her grandson, whose mother the former NFL player was convicted of conspiring to kill, the state Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday, Nov. 15.

NFL | No New Trial For Carruth

The Associated Press reports former Carolina Panthers WR Rae Carruth, who is serving a prison term of 18 years and 11 months for plotting to kill his girlfriend, lost his bid for a new trial. Despite an error by a lower court, a state appeals court ruled there was overwhelming evidence against Carruth that supersedes any error the court may have made. It is not known whether Carruth will appeal the decision to the state Supreme Court.

According to the Associated Press, lawyers for former NFL WR Rae Carruth appealed his murder conspiracy conviction Monday. They said a judge should not have allowed jurors to hear statements by Carruth's girlfriend Cherica Adams following her November 1999 shooting. The documents claim the judge erred in admitting notes written by Adams from her hospital bed, "as these constituted inadmissible and unreliable hearsay that was unfairly prejudicial to" Carruth.

The Charlotte Observer reports WR Muhsin Muhammad spent the morning testifying in the Rae Carruth murder trial as a character witness for the defense and spent the afternoon practicing with the Panthers. QBs Steve Beuerlein and Jeff Lewis alternated snaps with the first team in Wednesday's practice and will do the same the rest of this week.

TSN reports ex-Carolina Panthers wide receiver Rae Carruth was indicted yesterday by grand jury on murder and conspiracy charges in the killing of his pregnant girlfriend as well as a charge of trying to kill an unborn child. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Carruth Switches Lawyers

CBS SportsLine is reporting that former Carolina Panthers WR Rae Carruth has hired a new team of lawyers. Kenneth Spaulding, a prominent black leader in Durham, NC and will lead the group and be joined by high-profile Chapel Hill lawyer David Rudolf. Carruth is expected to plead not guilty to charges that he organized the slaying of his pregnant girlfriend.

NFL | No Bail For Carruth

Associated Press is reporting that former Carolina Panthers WR Rae Carruth was ordered to be held without bail today on charges that he directed a conspiracy to kill his pregnant girlfriend. Carruth fled to Tennessee last week after Cherica Adams passed away. He was captured by federal authorities and was returned to Charlotte Sunday.
