Chargers | Means Out | Inactives | More

Sat, 25 Dec 1999 23:04:46 -0800

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the San Diego Chargers have announced RB Natrone Means is out for the remainder of the year. There is a possibility he could undergo surgery at the end of the season on his knee and/or his ankle; both injuries have made him miss most of the year. "We want to try to start now getting him healthy and getting a good plan for the offseason," head coach Mike Riley said. RB Jermaine Fazande, a rookie, will start at tailback for the Chargers. In other news, LB Junior Seau (abdominal strain) practiced yesterday. S Michael Dumas (foot) and DB Scott Turner (flu) both missed practice yesterday. The Chargers have named Means, RB Tremayne Stephens, CB Terrance Shaw and QB Ryan Leaf as inactive for this weekend's game. The team has no idea when Leaf will return with his shoulder injury. An examination recently showed an irritated rotator cuff. There's a possibility that he may undergo surgery on the shoulder once again.
