Tigers | Miguel Cabrera finally powers up

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 21:16:22 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera went 4-for-4 with a double, two home runs and four RBIs Monday, April 25, against the Oakland Athletics.

Fantasy Tip: Miggy entered the game with just one homer and a total of six RBIs, so this was a much-needed game to calm his fantasy owners, at least for one day.

Tigers | Miguel Cabrera out vs. Cleveland

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 07:15:05 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera is not in the starting lineup Sunday, April 24. SS Andrew Romine is starting at first base and batting eighth against Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera has been a little slow out of the gate with a .210/.300/.306 slash line through his first 70 plate appearances. Remain patient with the fantasy star, as he paced the American League with a .338 batting average in 2015. Romine should be avoided in all fantasy formats Sunday. Carrasco has allowed just eight hits and two runs through his past 14 1/3 innings, and it projects as a daunting matchup for Romine.

Tigers | Victor Martinez to play 1B?

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 09:12:27 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Victor Martinez could play some first base this year in order to let 1B Miguel Cabrera serve as the designated hitter in some day games following night games, according to manager Brad Ausmus.

Fantasy Tip: It makes sense to keep Cabrera as fresh as possible. V-Mart could even regain first base eligibility, which would be great for fantasy owners. The fact that Martinez is a DH only in most fantasy leagues will drive his price down to levels that will make him a nice value in the late middle rounds. When healthy, he's a solid source of average and decent power.

Tigers | Miguel Cabrera could play 3B

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 17:44:05 -0800

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera could play some third base to open up the season if DH Victor Martinez is able to play first base, according to manager Brad Ausmus.

Fantasy Tip: The Tigers have an unusual start to the upcoming campaign with an Interleague series so they'll want to have both Cabrera and Martinez in the lineup on Opening Day. No matter where he is on the field, Cabrera is primed for another stellar year, coming off a season in which he won his fourth batting title. There will be some injury concerns, however.

Tigers | Miguel Cabrera at 3B for opener?

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 06:14:57 -0800

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera could start at third base for the two-game series against the Miami Marlins to open the season, according to manager Brad Ausmus.

Fantasy Tip: It wouldn't mean much unless it happens more often or your league allows him to be eligible at third in the two-game window. Miggy remains a first-round stud in fantasy.

Tigers | Miguel Cabrera is healthy

Tue, 23 Feb 2016 10:26:58 -0800

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera was healthy enough to do whatever he wanted to physically this offseason, including lifting weights, running and conditioning. "I feel the difference," Cabrera said. "I can use my back leg more and, also, I can stay more back. Hopefully, I can drive the ball more in the gap. My legs are in shape."

Fantasy Tip: With full health, Miggy is still one of the scariest hitters in the game. He could return to a .300 batting average with 30 home runs, which is why he's still a first-round selection, albeit in the later portion of the round.

Tigers | Miguel Cabrera wins another batting title

Mon, 05 Oct 2015 09:08:21 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera did not play Sunday, Oct. 4, but finished with a .338 average to win the American League batting title over Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts (.320).

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera continues to be one of the best pure hitters in the game, but at age 32 his skills are certainly starting to decline and he's a much bigger injury risk. No longer will he be a lock as a top-five fantasy baseball pick in 2016, but there's still plenty of reason to consider him later in the first round.

Tigers | Miguel Cabrera out of lineup Sunday

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 11:27:40 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Frankie Montas Sunday, Oct. 4. INF Jefry Marte will play first base and bat seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Marte ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) is batting just .221 with four home runs and 11 RBIs through 77 at-bats. He is not a great first base option in FantasyScore.

Tigers | Another big night for Miguel Cabrera

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 06:42:57 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI during the Tigers' 4-3 loss to the Chicago White Sox Saturday, Oct. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera's ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) .338 batting average will win him his fourth American League batting title in five years, as he continues to be one of the best pure hitters in baseball. He has seen his power numbers drop off the past two years, though, as he has posted his two lowest slugging percentages since 2004 the past two seasons. Cabrera remains in the Round 1 conversation for drafts next spring.

Tigers | No Miguel Cabrera Friday

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 16:16:17 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera is not in the starting lineup Friday, Oct. 2. SS Andrew Romine is starting at first base and batting second against Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale.

Fantasy Tip: The Tigers are limiting Cabrera ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) down the stretch as he chases yet another batting title. Make sure he's in the lineup first this weekend before picking him on FantasyScore. Romine ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) should be avoided against Sale this evening.
