Tigers | Miguel Cabrera to play third base in Arizona series

Sun, 20 Jul 2014 10:06:23 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera will see some playing time at third base during the team's upcoming interleague series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, in order to keep the bat of 1B/DH Victor Martinez in the starting lineup. Manager Brad Ausmus said it is unlikely that Martinez will see any time behind the plate because of the physical demands of the position, given his recent back problems.

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (groin) denied comments recently published that, translated from the Spanish language, quoted Cabrera as saying his groin injury still affects him and is the result of his loss in power. Tigers | Miguel Cabrera still not 100 percent

Tue, 15 Jul 2014 09:09:12 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (groin) said he hasn't completely recovered from a groin tear that bothered him at the end of last season. "There are times when I feel good, but there are always muscles that are tightening, muscles that are not functioning properly," Cabrera said. "It's part of the process." Still, Cabrera is hitting .306 with 75 RBIs at the break, but his 14 home runs are down from previous seasons.

Fantasy Tip: Miggy's power is noticeably down, yes, and it could be a result of his offseason surgery. However, he remains an elite fantasy option, and he may improve his power numbers in the second half if he becomes more comfortable.

Tigers | Brad Ausmus wants to give Miguel Cabrera day off

Sat, 05 Jul 2014 12:41:05 -0700

Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus wants to give 1B Miguel Cabrera a day off before the All-Star break but may find it difficult to do so as long as DH/1B Victor Martinez (back) is out of the lineup. "It's more a mental break for Miggy," Ausmus said. "He's grinding out every single day. He has had some DH days, which helps getting him off his feet, but sometimes you just need a mental break. It becomes more difficult to do that with Victor hurt, but I may just have to do that regardless."
