Royals | Salvador Perez, Omar Infante to sit

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 11:02:46 -0700

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez and 2B Omar Infante are not in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Mike Wright Sunday, April 24. 2B Christian Colon will start at second base and is batting seventh, while C Drew Butera will start at catcher and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Colon has collected only two hits in 10 at-bats this season and probably can be avoided in all leagues. Butera has received only three at-bats and is not a strong fantasy option.

Kansas City Royals 2B Omar Infante is not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics SP Chris Bassitt Sunday, April 17. 2B Christian Colon will start at second base and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Colon has only one hit in seven at-bats this season and probably should be avoided in all leagues.

Royals | Omar Infante batting seventh

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 12:10:48 -0700

Kansas City Royals 2B Omar Infante will start at second base and bat seventh Saturday, April 16, against Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray.

Fantasy Tip: As is the case with teammate Mike Moustakas, Infante also holds a 2-for-9 effort against Gray in his career. He's back to batting lower in the order, too, after hitting second yesterday, so there may not be as many at bats for Infante. Don't put him high on your second base totem pole for daily contests.

Royals | Mike Moustakas not in lineup

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 16:22:14 -0700

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics left-handed SP Rich Hill Friday, April 15. 2B Omar Infante moves up to the two-hole, while 2B Christian Colon is starting at the hot corner and hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Infante is off to a .310 start (9-for-29) with three doubles, but even with a move all the way up the batting order, he remains a low-end second base option in daily formats. Colon should be ignored everywhere.

Royals | Omar Infante not in lineup

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 10:48:14 -0700

Kansas City Royals 2B Omar Infante is not in the starting lineup against Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco Sunday, April 10. 2B Christian Colon will start at second base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Colon is receiving his first start of the season and is coming off a decent 2015 season where he hit .290 in limited playing time. Colon probably should be avoided in most leagues but could be used in some AL-only leagues.

Royals | Omar Infante nearing field action

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 23:56:00 -0800

Updating a preivous report, Kansas City Royals 2B Omar Infante (elbow) is nearing a return to the field, as he continues to make progress following offseason elbow surgery. He is expected to serve as the designated hitter in a split-squad Cactus League spring game Wednesday, March 9, and he might play defense in "the next couple of days," manager Ned Yost said Tuesday, March 8.

Fantasy Tip: Infante is trying to hold off a charge from youngster Christian Colon for the starting second baseman job. Colon hasn't hit well at all in the spring, so the job is anyone's for the taking. However, neither is particularly attractive from a fantasy perspective outside of the deepest of AL-only formats.

Royals | Omar Infante close to playing the field

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 12:47:03 -0800

Kansas City Royals 2B Omar Infante (elbow) is making progress from surgery to shave down a bone spur in his right elbow in the offseason, and he is on track to play the field in a spring game for the first time later this week. He went 0-for-4 as the designated hitter in a Cactus League game Monday, March 7. The Royals are calling Infante day-to-day right now. He'll compete with 2B Christian Colon for the second base job this year.

Fantasy Tip: The 34-year-old is fading quickly. He rarely walks these days and makes less contact. Plus, his power was always lacking, and his speed has declined, as well. He's no lock for regular playing time and is strictly an option in deep AL-only leagues.

Royals | Omar Infante could DH Monday

Sun, 06 Mar 2016 08:54:18 -0800

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost is considering using 2B Omar Infante (elbow) as his designated hitter Monday, March 7, depending on how he feels Sunday, March 6.

Fantasy Tip: Infante underwent surgery to shave a bone spur in his right elbow in November, so he is considered to be behind the other infielders in camp and hasn't yet been cleared to play defensively. He is expected to be ready for Opening Day, although he isn't guaranteed to be the starter at the keystone position, so he shouldn't be selected before the later rounds of AL-only and deep mixed fantasy drafts.

Royals | Omar Infante could miss time

Fri, 26 Feb 2016 23:53:16 -0800

Kansas City Royals 2B Omar Infante (elbow) could miss some time in early spring training as he recovers from the removal of bone spurs in his right elbow.

Fantasy Tip: Infante shouldn't be drafted until later rounds in AL and mixed leagues because there is no guarantee he will start. He may have to share time with Christian Colon, but Infante won't have to worry about Ben Zobrist taking his job away again.

Royals | Omar Infante might not play every day

Sat, 09 Jan 2016 10:16:06 -0800

Kansas City Royals 2B Omar Infante is not guaranteed to be the team's everyday second baseman, according to general manager Dayton Moore. "I just know we're going to put the best team out there each and every night, and I know Omar is capable of being that guy," Moore said. "But we like Christian Colon, too. But you need them all to win, as you know. It's a team, and you count on everyone to perform. I don't know if Omar, at this point, is going to play 162 games."

Fantasy Tip: Neither Infante nor Colon will match the offensive production that Ben Zobrist provided for Kansas City down the stretch last year. Infante is still considered to have the edge in the competition, even though he is recovering from minor surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow. They should be targeted exclusively in AL-only fantasy leagues during the later rounds.
