Mets | Jose Reyes a topic of dicussion for Mets

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 15:12:03 -0700

Pending free-agent SS Jose Reyes' (Mets) fit with the New York Mets is being discussed within the organization because the team is optimistic it will be able to sign Reyes Saturday, June 25.

Fantasy Tip: Reyes is worth ownership in the majority of seasonal leagues because of his stolen base prowess. However, he posted an underwhelming .274/.310/.378 slash line last year and played his home games at two great hitter's parks (Rogers Centre and Coors Field). Reyes will also need a rehab stint to catch up to speed, so he might not be back until after the All-Star break.

Rockies | Jose Reyes to get work in at 3B?

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 17:33:07 -0700

Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes would likely first report to the minor leagues and get some time in at third base if the New York Mets end up acquiring him.

Fantasy Tip: This pretty much confirms that Reyes would indeed switch to third if he were to return to the Mets. It would be a smart move, too, other than the potential PR troubles that might come with it, as Reyes would be the best possible fit New York could have at the hot corner while David Wright is sidelined. The former NL batting champion would be someone to go after immediately in fantasy if he indeed lands back in Flushing.

Rockies | Jose Reyes put on release waivers

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 11:24:15 -0700

Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes had release waivers requested Thursday, June 23.

Fantasy Tip: It usually takes 48 hours to clear those waivers, and he'll be free to sign with another team. It may be a few days before he signs with a team, and the best-case scenario is probably him surfacing around the All-Star break.

Mets | Could Neil Walker play third base?

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 04:55:23 -0700

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker may be shifted to third base for some games in order to free up second base for a possible return of free-agent SS Jose Reyes (Rockies), among other rumors.

Fantasy Tip: The far more credible rumor is Walker playing third would put an established veteran at the hot corner while 3B David Wright recovers. His .257-14-28 line makes Walker a viable fantasy player in all formats, and the added bonus would be increased position eligibility.

Mets | NYM brass considering Jose Reyes?

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 19:48:04 -0700

The New York Mets are debating internally about signing free-agent SS Jose Reyes (Rockies), and whether it would be worth the public relations fallout, a major league source said Monday, June 20. The Colorado Rockies designated Reyes for assignment after he completed a 52-game suspension for violating baseball's domestic violence policy. If signed, the Mets would owe Reyes only the pro-rated portion of the minimum salary, with the Rockies obligated for the rest.

Fantasy Tip: It would be interesting if Reyes returned where it all started. He could potentially play second base or third base in Queens, but it remains to be seen whether the club's scouts think he can make a positive impact on the field. Until he finds a landing place Reyes can be safely avoided in most fantasy leagues.

Royals | KC not interested in Jose Reyes

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 17:36:53 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Kansas City Royals do not appear to be interested in acquiring Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes to play second base. The Royals plan to continue using the tandem of INFs Whit Merrifield and Christian Colon at the keystone position.

Fantasy Tip: Entering play Thursday, Merrifield was batting .330 with two home runs and eight RBI through 100 at-bats, while Colon was batting .288 with three RBI in 59 at-bats. Both players are productive sources of cap relief in DFS, with Merrifield being the better fantasy option for AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues because he is expected to see most of the playing time at second. Reyes should be stashed in all formats because he has the potential to make an immediate impact wherever he lands.

Royals | Jose Reyes has Royals' interest

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 11:36:06 -0700

Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes, who was recently designated for assignment, is being looked at by the Kansas City Royals to slot in at second base, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: There probably couldn't be a better landing spot for Reyes, who would fit KC's style. He hits for contact, and they like to run, which could make him an impact player in fantasy. He should be owned and stashed universally, but if this happens, he would be worth a significant portion of your FAAB in AL-only formats since there are whispers of a quiet trade deadline.

Mets | Jose Reyes doesn't interest Mets

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 16:33:37 -0700

Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes, who was designated for assignment Wednesday, June 15, does not interest the New York Mets, according to a team source. The Rockies have as long as a week to try and trade Reyes. There is considerable baggage from Reyes that will deter teams from considering him after he returned from a suspension for violating the league's domestic-abuse policy.

Fantasy Tip: A deal may prove difficult because of Reyes' hefty contract, unless the Rockies are willing to eat a large chunk of it. Despite declining skills the past year, Reyes can surely offer something to a contending club in the second half of the season, which makes it likely he'll land somewhere. For that reason he needs to remain stashed in all formats. We'll know more about his potential worth soon. Stay tuned.

Rockies | Jose Reyes designated for assignment

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 10:04:42 -0700

Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes was designated for assignment Wednesday, June 15.

Fantasy Tip: The team will have 10 days to work out a trade, release him or outright him to the minors, which has virtually no chance of happening. Reyes should be stashed in all formats as he could latch on to another team and make a fantasy impact immediately.

Rockies | Jose Reyes to begin rehab assignment

Tue, 31 May 2016 14:58:29 -0700

Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes will start a minor league rehab assignment with Class AAA Albuquerque Wednesday, June 1, according to manager Walt Weiss.

Fantasy Tip: Reyes is eligible to return from his suspension Wednesday, but he'll go on a rehab assignment first before returning to the Rockies. It's unclear how long his rehab stint will last. With the emergence of rookie Trevor Story, though, there appears to be no room with the Rockies, and a trade to another team is the best option for all parties involved. Stay tuned on how this situation plays out. In the meantime stash Reyes everywhere and hope he lands with another team that can provide him everyday playing time.
