Athletics | Stephen Vogt expected back in 2015

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 16:22:03 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt (groin) is expected to return and play again this season, according to manager Bob Melvin. C Carson Blair is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Josh Phegley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) to receive the bulk of starts with Vogt ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) out of the lineup, and Phegley is worth a look in deep mixed leagues. Vogt is worth stashing, but you should keep your expectations in check, and you shouldn't worry about dropping him if you need help in the now. Blair ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) is nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief at FantasyScore Wednesday.

Athletics | Coco Crisp may take BP

Sun, 26 Apr 2015 15:20:15 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (elbow) could take batting practice by the end of this week. Manager Bob Melvin said Crisp will go down to the minors for a rehab assignment before joining the team.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is still a ways away from returning, but this is all good news so far. Monitor Crisp's progress and wait for a bit to start him after he returns.

Athletics | Jarrod Parker throws bullpen

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 12:57:30 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Jarrod Parker (elbow) threw a bullpen session Tuesday, March 10, and manager Bob Melvin said he may have information on the next step of Parker's rehab soon if Parker reports no issues.

Fantasy Tip: Parker won't be back until June, but he will have some fantasy value upon returning thanks to a 3.73 ERA when healthy. Still, keep in mind what two Tommy John surgeries can do to a career.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt to mostly catch in 2015

Sun, 08 Mar 2015 15:43:29 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt will mostly serve as a second catcher this season, as manager Bob Melvin will only keep two catchers.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt can also play first base and the outfield, but keep an eye on how this affects his fantasy value. He has a little more because of his utility status, but if he's mostly a reserve then he should be kept on your bench if drafted.

Athletics | Four locks for bullpen

Tue, 18 Mar 2014 20:30:07 -0700

Oakland Athletics RPs Jim Johnson, Luke Gregerson, Sean Doolittle and Dan Otero are each considered locks for the bullpen for manager Bob Melvin. Left-handed RP Fernando Abad is also expected to get one of the vacant bullpen spot, with RP Evan Scribner looking like a good bet for another spot as a long reliever. That likely leaves on spot from a group of Ps Drew Pomeranz, Josh Lindblom, Joe Savery and Arnold Leon. Lindblom is believed to have the edge in the battle.

Athletics | Playing time plentiful for outfield

Mon, 28 Jan 2013 01:50:01 -0800

Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin is not worried about finding playing time for all of his outfielders, saying there will be plenty to go around for OF's Chris B. Young, Yoenis Cespedes, Seth Smith, Josh Reddick and Coco Crisp. "There are enough at-bats for everyone," Melvin said. "It's how they're allotted that's the difficult part. We're set up for injuries if something were to happen along those lines, but I think it's going to be more of a feel thing."
