Royals | Alex Rios rehabbing Wednesday

Wed, 27 May 2015 15:06:48 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Alex Rios (hand) was scheduled to serve as the designated hitter and play nine innings with Class AAA Omaha Wednesday, May 27, according to manager Ned Yost.

Fantasy Tip: Rios ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) could return to the Royals this weekend or early next week if things go according to plan. He should immediately return to starting right field duties, pushing Paulo Orlando ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) back to a bench role. You may want to take a wait-and-see approach with Rios at FantasyScore the first couple games he's back.

Royals | Alex Rios closing in on rehab assignment

Sun, 24 May 2015 05:07:26 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Alex Rios (hand) may begin a rehab assignment in the next few days.

Fantasy Tip: Rios ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) landed on the disabled list after just 29 plate appearances. With his competition and colleagues now all warmed up, FantasyScore owners should give Rios some time to get caught up before investing.

Royals | Alex Rios nearing rehab assignment

Tue, 19 May 2015 17:15:14 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Alex Rios (hand) could begin a rehab assignment in seven-to-10 days, according to manager Ned Yost Tuesday, May 19.

Fantasy Tip: Rios ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) has the potential to represent a rare power bat in the Royals lineup. For the first time since his rookie season in 2004, Rios failed to hit double-digit home runs in 2014, finishing the season with just four homers for the Texas Rangers. Rios has stolen at least 11 bases in all 11 of his major league seasons. Rios could quickly become the most appealing FantasyScore option in the Royals lineup.

Royals | Alex Rios hitting off tee

Thu, 14 May 2015 14:49:28 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Alex Rios (hand) is starting to hit balls off a tee and did some long toss Thursday, May 14, as he works his way back from a broken bone in his left hand. Manager Ned Yost said Rios is "definitely making progress" and is on schedule.

Fantasy Tip: With Rios out, Jarrod Dyson ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) and Paulo Orlando ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) have performed a platoon in right field. Neither is playing particularly well, though, and both are nothing more than low-end desperation outfield plays at FantasyScore for their speed.

Royals | Alex Rios could return in two weeks

Wed, 06 May 2015 06:12:36 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Alex Rios (hand) could return from the disabled list in two weeks, according to manager Ned Yost. Rios will begin strengthening exercises later this week, and it's unsure if he'll need a rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Two weeks is probably an aggressive timetable, and it wouldn't make sense to not give him a few games on a rehab assignment. Paulo Orlando leads the majors in triples and has filled in nicely. At $1,900 (3.8% of your cap), he's a solid matchup play.

Royals | Alex Rios to begin strengthening soon

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 21:40:26 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Alex Rios (hand) said Monday, April 27, that his X-rays went well, and he plans to begin hand strengthening exercises in 10 days.

Fantasy Tip: Rios is still a ways off from returning, so FantasyScore owners need not pay him any mind until he can officially play and prove his health in a full game without any setbacks.

Royals | Alex Rios out 3-6 weeks

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 10:20:10 -0700

Updating an earlier report, Kansas City Royals OF Alex Rios (finger) has a non-displaced fracture in his left pinkie. General manager Dayton Moore said Rios' timetable isn't clear, but he should be out between three and six weeks. OFs Jarrod Dyson and Paulo Orlando will split time in Rios' absence.

Fantasy Tip: Dyson ($2,400, 4.8% of your cap) stole 36 bags in a half-season worth of at-bats last year. The 29-year-old Orlando ($1,600, 3.2%) hit .301 with six homers, 63 RBI and 34 steals in a full season at Triple-A last year. The left-handed hitting Dyson will likely play most of the time with Orlando likely to face lefties. Both are speculative flyers on FantasyScore for their wheels. Prospect OF Brett Eibner is unlikely to be called up.

Royals | Alex Rios heading to DL

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 09:18:07 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Alex Rios (hand) suffered a fractured left hand Monday, April 13, and he will be put on the disabled list. There is no timetable for his return to action.

Fantasy Tip: Rios ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) was off to a good start, too, going 9-for-28 with a home run in his first seven games with his new squad. Fantasy owners in standard leagues should stash him in a DL spot. Coming back from a broken hand can be tough for a hitter, as it can sap them of much of their strength. Keep an eye on that. Paulo Orlando ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) and Jarrod Dyson ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) should see more time as a result. Dyson is the much more attractive fantasy option for his excellent speed.

Royals | Alex Rios dials long distance

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 20:20:40 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Alex Rios had three hits in his team debut Monday, April 6, against the Chicago White Sox, including a three-run home run and a stolen base.

Fantasy Tip: The wind was blowing out fiercely to left field and the Royals got the ball up in the jetstream for a pair of homers. At $4,100 (or 8.2% of cap) Rios is a solid play in FantasyScore.
