The Texas Rangers acquired OF Alex Rios from the Chicago White Sox Friday, Aug. 9. The White Sox will also send $1 million to the Rangers for Rios' salary. The White Sox will receive a player to be named or cash considerations. The Rangers are expected to send SS Leury Garcia to Chicago. With Rios gone, OF Avisail Garcia could come up and see playing time in the majors. Garcia had 10 hits in 24 at-bats (.417) with a home run and nine RBIs with Triple-A Charlotte.
Fantasy Tip: Texas was desperately seeking outfield help with Nelson Cruz suspended for the rest of the season. David Murphy and Craig Gentry are expected to platoon in left field from here on out.
Blake Tekotte was called up today, but if Garcia is brought up also, the latter should see most of the playing time for the rest of the year. Add Garcia immediately in AL-only leagues, for now.

The Texas Rangers aren't close to a deal for Chicago White Sox OF Alex Rios after claiming him on waivers Thursday, Aug. 8. The White Sox are expected to decide whether to trade Rios or pull him off waivers Friday, Aug. 9. They will not release him without compensation, according to a league source. Rios can block trades to six teams, but the Rangers are not on that list. He's owed $12.5 million next year and the remaining part of his $12 million salary this season. His deal includes a $1 million buyout for 2015. If he's traded, the buyout will go up to $2 million and his contract will be raised $500,000 for 2014 and 2015.

The Chicago White Sox wanted SS Jurickson Profar from the Texas Rangers when the two teams discussed OF Alex Rios before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. The Rangers were unwilling to give Profar up. If Rios were traded now, OF Avisail Garcia would likely come up and play at the major league level.
Fantasy Tip: It's unlikely that the Rangers will land Rios, since they'll have to take on most of his remaining contract, even though Nelson Cruz is out for the year. If the trade goes down, Garcia should be owned in all AL-only leagues.

The Texas Rangers claimed Chicago White Sox OF Alex Rios on waivers Thursday, Aug. 8, but they'll now have to work out a trade with Chicago to acquire him.

Chicago White Sox OF Alex Rios (foot) is considered day-to-day after X-rays on his left foot came back negative.
Fantasy Tip: He fouled a ball off the top of the foot on Tuesday night. It sounds like Rios will be fine, although the ChiSox may rest him tonight. The club may still hope to deal him after the non-waiver deadline, if they can't move him before it, although it'd be a little more difficult.
