Diamondbacks | Bronson Arroyo might not be ready

Tue, 11 Mar 2014 12:23:18 -0700

The Arizona Diamondbacks are being cautious with SP Bronson Arroyo (back), and manager Kirk Gibson said it's "possible" that Arroyo isn't ready for the season opener. However, the team doesn't need a fifth starter until April 4.

Diamondbacks | Bronson Arroyo to take a break

Thu, 06 Mar 2014 08:33:03 -0800

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Bronson Arroyo (back) will miss the next seven to 10 days after receiving an epidural injection for an inflamed disc in his back Wednesday, March 5. He was scratched from his spring start Tuesday, March 4, after feeling pain while warming up. "(The doctors) just want it to calm down before he starts throwing again," general manager Kevin Towers said. "Of course, Arroyo doesn't think it'll take that long. We'll just have to play it by ear to see how he's feeling." Arroyo has never been on the disabled list in his career.

Fantasy Tip: If Arroyo isn't ready for the start of the season, that'd leave the door open for the likes of Randall Delgado, Archie Bradley or Daniel Hudson. Bradley has the most upside of the trio, but the Snakes may decide he needs more seasoning. Delgado or Hudson would likely be just a short-term option for NL-only leaguers, depending on how much time Arroyo misses.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are working to learn SP Bronson Arroyo and are noncommittal about him calling his own pitches. "We're trying to learn him, he's going to learn us," manager Kirk Gibson said. "Whatever is most productive, that's what we'll do."

Orioles | Botched deals may have cost Bronson Arroyo

Wed, 12 Feb 2014 02:24:23 -0800

Deals that fell apart earlier this winter with RP Grant Balfour and OF Tyler Colvin may have cost the team a realistic shot at Arizona Diamondbacks SP Bronson Arroyo. Baltimore Sun reporter Dan Connolly said the Orioles' offer was on par with that of the Diamondbacks, for slightly less guaranteed money but with a greater third-year option value. The risk of a deal falling apart at this stage of the offseason weighed substantially in Arroyo's decision-making process.

Diamondbacks | Archie Bradley still in the mix

Mon, 10 Feb 2014 19:57:08 -0800

Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said Monday, Feb. 10, that despite the signing of SP Bronson Arroyo, prospect SP Archie Bradley is not out of the running for a rotation spot. "Not necessarily," Towers said. "To me, we wanted to create a lot of depth. There could be injuries, a lot of things could happen before the middle of March, when we have to get our roster at least down to 28. I don't want Archie to feel just because of the Arroyo signing he's destined for Double-A or Triple-A."

Fantasy Tip: Bradley has a tremendously bright future, and fantasy owners in long-term keeper formats already know his name. However, he is on the outside looking in right now, and likely needs an injury or two to open up a job with the big club and have value in standard fantasy leagues.

Diamondbacks | Randall Delgado's role changes

Sat, 08 Feb 2014 19:40:08 -0800

The signing of veteran SP Bronson Arroyo by the Arizona Diamondbacks gives the team's rotation greater depth, and also means that the team will either move SP Randall Delgado to the bullpen, where some feel he is better suited, or Triple-A to start.

Diamondbacks | Bronson Arroyo signs

Fri, 07 Feb 2014 13:56:31 -0800

The Arizona Diamondbacks signed free-agent SP Bronson Arroyo (Reds) to an undisclosed two-year deal Friday, Feb. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Entering his age-37 season, there's really not much else to Arroyo that we don't already know. He's not going to strike out many hitters, and his best attribute at this point in his career has been his ability to stay healthy and log innings. Not much fantasy intrigue, especially since he's moving to another hitter-friendly environment. Arroyo's entrance into the starting rotation likely pushes Randall Delgado out of the picture, at least to start the year.
