Nationals | Bronson Arroyo eyeing return this year

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 08:36:44 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Bronson Arroyo (shoulder) hopes to return to the majors before the end of the 2016 season. He is currently pitching for the organization's Gulf Coast League affiliate.

Fantasy Tip: In his second rehab start Saturday, July 2, the 39-year-old right-hander allowed no earned runs and walked two batters over five innings, with three strikeouts. He can be ignored in most formats but could have some value in deep NL-only fantasy leagues if he is able to return to the majors.

Nationals | Bronson Arroyo making progress

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 11:53:59 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Bronson Arroyo (shoulder) has been able to throw from a three-quarters arm slot and has pitched in two intrasquad games at the team's spring training complex. He has pitched five innings and has not experienced any problems with his shoulder. He is expected to pitch in five more intrasquad games before he is reevaluated July 1. He could begin a rehab assignment if everything checks out during the exam.

Fantasy Tip: It appears Arroyo has a chance to pitch for the Nationals at some point after the All-Star break but likely would be eased back. Arroyo may have value in NL-only leagues if he is able to come back but can be avoided in most leagues.

Nationals | Bronson Arroyo to miss several weeks

Sat, 19 Mar 2016 18:25:31 -0700

Updating previous reports, Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo announced that SP Bronson Arroyo (shoulder) has partial tears in his rotator cuff tendon, in addition to extreme inflammation in the area. He will be shut down for 10 to 14 days before beginning a shoulder strengthening program. The entire rehab process is expected to take four to six weeks.

Fantasy Tip: This development means that Arroyo is out of the running for the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation and will begin the 2016 season on the disabled list. The 39-year-old right-hander has no fantasy value right now.

Nationals | Bronson Arroyo's career not over

Fri, 18 Mar 2016 17:47:38 -0700

Updating previous reports, a doctor misread the MRI results for Washington Nationals SP Bronson Arroyo (shoulder), according to a source. His rotator cuff is fine but he is dealing with bursa sac inflammation and could resume throwing in seven to 10 days.

Fantasy Tip: This is good news for Arroyo's career, although it remains to be seen how this will affect his chances to win the No. 5 spot in the Nationals' starting rotation. However, the 39-year-old right-hander doesn't have much fantasy value at this point.

Nationals | Bronson Arroyo has torn rotator cuff

Thu, 17 Mar 2016 12:22:25 -0700

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals SP Bronson Arroyo (shoulder) has a torn rotation cuff and not a torn labrum. He will not have surgery. "It's either rehab or retire," Arroyo told MASN.

Fantasy Tip: Arroyo was a long shot to win a rotation spot while competing with Joe Ross and Tanner Roark, and this likely will end his comeback attempt. In any event, Arroyo wasn't expected to have much fantasy relevance this year anyway.

Nationals | Bronson Arroyo has torn labrum

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 16:42:56 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Bronson Arroyo (shoulder) was diagnosed with an 80% tear of the labrum in his right shoulder Wednesday, March 16.

Fantasy Tip: That'll likely be a wrap on the 39-year-old's underrated career in his comeback attempt. He'll likely miss all of the 2016 season. Arroyo wasn't expected to make the starting rotation anyway, so this confirms he has zero fantasy value.

Nationals | Bronson Arroyo set for Tuesday

Tue, 15 Mar 2016 20:51:27 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Bronson Arroyo will make his second Grapefruit League spring start Wednesday, March 16, against the Miami Marlins.

Fantasy Tip: Arroyo spun three perfect innings in his first appearance. He is in the running for one of the final rotation spots, and if he keeps pitching like he did last time out it will be hard to deny him. Still, at this point of his career he is better suited to use in deeper NL-only fantasy formats.

Nationals | Washington's rotation outlook

Tue, 23 Feb 2016 15:59:11 -0800

Washington Nationals SPs Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez, Tanner Roark and Joe Ross are expected to be locked into the starting rotation this year. SPs Bronson Arroyo and Lucas Giolito could make decisions difficult, though, if they impress in spring training.

Fantasy Tip: Scherzer and Strasburg are fantasy aces without a doubt. Gonzalez provides veteran depth to a pitching staff. Ross has strikeout stuff like his brother Tyson and is a nice sleeper target in deep mixed leagues. Roark should be left for owners in NL-only universes. Giolito is one of the top overall prospects this year and could work his way into the rotation later in the year.

Nationals | Two WAS hurlers battling for No. 5 spot

Sun, 21 Feb 2016 07:07:07 -0800

Washington Nationals SP Bronson Arroyo is expected to compete with SP Tanner Roark for the No. 5 spot in the team's starting rotation during spring training camp.

Fantasy Tip: The 39-year-old Arroyo missed the entire 2015 season recovering from Tommy John surgery but could be a nice bounce-back candidate if he remains healthy. However, he is not guaranteed of making the 25-man roster. Roark would likely be used as a reliever if he does not crack the rotation.

Nationals | Bronson Arroyo signs with Nats

Tue, 26 Jan 2016 23:32:19 -0800

Free-agent SP Bronson Arroyo (Dodgers) signed a minor-league deal with the Washington Nationals Tuesday, Jan. 26, and he received an invitation to spring training. He will receive a $2 million base salary with a chance to earn up to $8 million if he makes 32 starts.

Fantasy Tip: Arroyo could be a nice rebound candidate for fantasy owners in 2016 if he has a strong spring and makes the rotation for the contending Nationals.
