Braves | Kelly Johnson to move around

Wed, 06 Jan 2016 16:44:12 -0800

Atlanta Braves 2B Kelly Johnson is expected to share time with 3B Adonis Garcia at third base in 2016, and Johnson could also play other infield positions and left field.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson returns to an Atlanta team that he hit nine home runs with in the first half of the season. He can be useful as a utility player with some pop, but the fact that he likely won't be an everyday player makes him strictly a middle infield option in NL-only leagues.

Braves | Kelly Johnson agrees with Atlanta

Wed, 06 Jan 2016 08:44:22 -0800

Free-agent 2B Kelly Johnson (Mets) agreed to a one-year deal with the Atlanta Braves Wednesday, Jan. 6.

Fantasy Tip: KJ had a solid .265-14-47 season, but he'll likely be a part-time player with the potential to be traded at the deadline. He has NL-only MI value, but that's about it.

Mets | Kelly Johnson will serve as DH in Game 1

Mon, 26 Oct 2015 15:51:05 -0700

New York Mets 2B Kelly Johnson will be in the starting lineup as the designated hitter in Game 1 of the World Series against the Kansas City Royals Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has just two pinch-hit appearances during the playoffs, so expectations should be kept in check with the veteran. Johnson was serviceable at times during the regular season, especially his 14 home runs, 47 RBI and .265 batting average. However, he isn't an option outside of NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues heading into the 2016 fantasy season.

Mets | Kelly Johnson might start at 2B

Mon, 19 Oct 2015 18:34:24 -0700

New York Mets 2B Kelly Johnson might get the starting nod at second base in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series against the Chicago Cubs Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has some power upside at a low price in FantasyScore. If he is in the lineup, he might be a nice, cheap play saving you plenty of salary to load up on pitching and hitters at deeper positions.

Mets | David Wright takes a seat

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 15:50:13 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright is out of the lineup for Game 2 of a doubleheader Saturday, Oct. 3, with 3B Kelly Johnson hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: KJ ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is 5-for-20 (.250) with a solo homer off Max Scherzer, and there are better options on FantasyScore.

Mets | Curtis Granderson out of lineup

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 07:06:31 -0700

New York Mets OF Curtis Granderson is out of the lineup Thursday, Oct. 1, with 2B Kelly Johnson leading off.

Fantasy Tip: KJ ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) had a .317-2-7 September and faces youngster Jerad Eickhoff Thursday. Johnson is a low-end consideration on FantasyScore.

Mets | David Wright sitting vs. Braves

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 12:14:46 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright is not in the starting lineup Monday, Sept. 21. 2B Kelly Johnson draws into the lineup and is batting sixth against Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Wright ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats Monday. The veteran has a respectable .287/.374/.425 slash line over 21 games since returning from a lengthy back injury. Johnson ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has been solid when given an opportunity of late and owns a .999 OPS over his past 49 plate appearances. Still, he is far from a lineup building block at FantasyScore Monday.

Mets | Kelly Johnson playing second base

Sat, 12 Sep 2015 12:44:09 -0700

New York Mets INF Kelly Johnson will bat seventh and play second base against Atlanta Braves SP Williams Perez Saturday, Sept. 12. INF Daniel Murphy, who played second base Friday, Sept. 11, will bat third and play first base Saturday, with 1B Lucas Duda out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is a solid value play in FantasyScore tonight. He is batting .450 (9-for-20) this month, with two doubles, two home runs, six RBIs and six runs scored.

Mets | Daniel Murphy resting against Braves

Thu, 10 Sep 2015 14:32:20 -0700

New York Mets 2B Daniel Murphy is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Sept. 10. 2B Kelly Johnson is starting at second base and is hitting seventh against Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is an interesting choice on FantasyScore on a day with fewer games. He'll hit the occasional home run and 13 of his 14 dingers in 2015 have come against right-handers. Miller, despite his lack of wins, has been one of the few bright spots for Atlanta this year, though.

Mets | Daniel Murphy still sidelined

Sun, 06 Sep 2015 08:59:43 -0700

New York Mets 1B Daniel Murphy (quadriceps) is not in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Jarred Cosart Sunday, Sept. 6. 2B Kelly Johnson will start at first base and is batting fifth, while SS Wilmer Flores will start at second base and is batting fourth.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should keep an eye out on the situation to see when Murphy ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) will be able to return. Johnson ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has five hits and four RBI in his last three games and could be a cheaper option on FantasyScore. Flores ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is hitting .263 with 15 home runs and could be a starting option.
