Indians | Marlon Byrd's career likely over

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 09:17:08 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Marlon Byrd admitted that his career is over to the club following his 162-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs Wednesday, June 1. He was hitting .270 with five home runs and 19 RBI in 115 at-bats this year.

Fantasy Tip: Byrd was seeing decent playing time with Michael Brantley (shoulder) on the DL, but he can be dropped in all formats now. Jose Ramirez, who is hitting a cool .315 with three home runs, 19 RBI and four steals, is the biggest beneficiary and should continue to be an everyday player. He doesn't have much power but continues to get on base and chip in in the runs column mainly.

Indians | Michael Brantley will not be rushed

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 20:38:46 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) will not be rushed despite the suspension to OF Marlon Byrd, general manager Chris Antonetti said Wednesday, June 1.

Fantasy Tip: Brantley is on the 15-day disabled list due to right shoulder inflammation and his return date remains unclear. Dr. Smooth should remain on reserve or in your injured spot until he can officially return and prove his health in at least two or three full games without any setbacks.

Indians | Marlon Byrd suspended

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 11:29:09 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Marlon Byrd was suspended 162 games for performance-enhancing drugs Wednesday, June 1, and he will not appeal, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: It's a tough blow for the Indians and Byrd owners in deeper leagues, as he was filling in nicely with a .270/.326/.452 slash line with five homers and 19 RBI with Michael Brantley (shoulder) injured. You can drop him now in all single-year formats. Jose Ramirez, who has impressed himself, should continue to start regularly now and deserves to be owned in all deep mixed and AL-only leagues.

Cleveland Indians OF Marlon Byrd went 4-for-4 with a double and a solo home run in a 9-2 loss to the Texas Rangers Monday, May 30.

Fantasy Tip: The veteran's best years are behind him, and at best, he is a fringe option in AL-only leagues.

Indians | Marlon Byrd in Sunday's lineup

Sun, 29 May 2016 07:20:14 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Marlon Byrd will bat eighth and play right field against Baltimore Orioles SP Chris Tillman Sunday, May 29. OF Lonnie Chisenhall is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Byrd is batting .224 with two home runs and 10 RBI over the last four weeks and is hitting only .229 versus right-handed pitching in 2016. He's not a recommended fantasy option this afternoon.

Indians | Yan Gomes, Marlon Byrd sitting

Fri, 27 May 2016 13:43:17 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes and OF Marlon Byrd are not in the starting lineup Friday, May 27. C Chris Gimenez is behind the dish and hitting eighth, while 3B/OF Jose Ramirez is starting in left field and batting fifth against Baltimore Orioles SP Mike Wright.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez is making the most of his playing time with the Tribe, hitting .287 with three home runs and 18 RBI. He doesn't have much power, but you can't argue with him as a DFS value pick the way he's been playing. Gimenez has occasional pop behind the dish but is a low-end backstop in daily formats.

Indians | Marlon Byrd in LF Tuesday

Tue, 24 May 2016 14:31:30 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Marlon Byrd is starting in left field and is batting seventh against Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale Tuesday, May 24.

Fantasy Tip: Byrd's playing time should be steady as long as Michael Brantley remains on the disabled list between left and right field. For that reason he's not a bad depth option in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues for his power. He has just two home runs this month, though, and is hitting .238 in May, so temper your expectations. He's not attractive in daily games against Sale this evening.

Indians | Rajai Davis, Juan Uribe sitting

Mon, 23 May 2016 11:06:45 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Rajai Davis and 3B Juan Uribe are not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox Monday, May 23. OFs Michael Martinez and Marlon Byrd are starting and hitting ninth and eighth, respectively. 3B/OF Jose Ramirez is starting at third base and batting fifth against White Sox SP Mat Latos.

Fantasy Tip: Byrd and Martinez have low ceiling for fantasy gamers for Game 1. Ramirez has only one home run but is hittinng .296 (34-for-115) in a utility role for the Tribe and is a cheap value pick against Latos.

Indians | Jose Ramirez takes a seat

Sat, 21 May 2016 11:22:51 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Jose Ramirez is out of the lineup Saturday, May 21, with OF Marlon Byrd hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Byrd has yet to provide the kind of pop he has in recent years, but he's hitting .313 the last week. He's a low-end consideration against Joe Kelly.

Indians | Three Indians regulars sitting

Thu, 19 May 2016 14:43:42 -0700

Cleveland Indians 1B Mike Napoli (rest), OF Marlon Byrd (rest) and C Yan Gomes (rest) are all out of the lineup Thursday, May 19. 1B Carlos Santana is batting cleanup in place of Napoli, OF Lonnie Chisenhall is in right field batting sixth replacing Byrd, and C Chris Gimenez is behind the plate with Gomes out and batting eighth versus Cincinnati Reds SP Tim Adleman.

Fantasy Tip: Napoli is only out of the lineup because it's under National League rules, so Santana will take over first base duties this evening after sitting in last night's contest. His value goes up a notch due to his power potential. Meanwhile, Chisenhall and Gimenez are both inconsistent at the plate and probably not worth deploying in daily leagues.
