Phillies | Marlon Byrd starting, Ryan Howard sitting

Thu, 31 Jul 2014 12:20:30 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Marlon Byrd is in the starting lineup Thursday, July 31, against the Washington Nationals. 1B Darin Ruf is starting at first base against the Nationals left-handed SP Gio Gonzalez, instead of 1B Ryan Howard.

Fantasy Tip: With Byrd in the lineup, it is unlikely he is traded before the non-waiver deadline today. Ryne Sandberg appears to be sticking to his platoon at first base. Howard's dwindling fantasy stock will continue to fade, if he continues to sit against left-handed pitchers. Ruf is worth owning in NL-only leagues, as long as he is getting semi-regular at-bats.
