Dodgers | Yasiel Puig returns after a day off

Sun, 01 May 2016 12:24:19 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig is in the lineup Sunday, May 01, against San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz and will bat leadoff. The Dodgers will get a host of other regulars a day off, however, as 2B Chase Utley, C Yasmani Grandal, OF Carl Crawford and OF Joc Pederson are not starting. In their place, OF Enrique Hernandez will occupy left field and bat second, 2B/3B Howie Kendrick will play second base and hit fifth, OF Trayce Thompson will spell Pederson in center and bat sixth, and C A.J. Ellis will catch and hit eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Puig is mired in a 7-for-51 slump since the middle of April following a hot start and is probably needs to be benched in most leagues for now, although manager Dave Roberts is obviously showing a lot of faith in his struggling slugger by batting him leadoff today. Utley is getting a rest day and has cooled slightly after batting over .300 for most of April, but he should be inserted back in lineups Tuesday when the Dodgers hit the road to face the Tampa Bay Rays.

Dodgers | Howie Kendrick the odd-man out

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 14:59:39 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Howie Kendrick is not in the starting lineup Friday, April 29. 2B Chase Utley is starting at the keystone and hitting leadoff against San Diego Padres SP Cesar Vargas.

Fantasy Tip: Utley is off to a fine start, hitting .307 with five RBI in 75 at-bats. As long as he stays hot, Kendrick will likely lose playing time against right-handed pitchers, especially since he's only hitting .135/.151/.135. It's becoming harder to justify holding Kendrick in mixed affairs. Utley is a fine selection for daily rosters tonight against Vargas, who is making just his second major league start and first on the road.

Dodgers | Chase Utley receives night off

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 15:46:28 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Chase Utley is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 27, opposite Miami Marlins SP Justin Nicolino.

Fantasy Tip: It's a lefty on the mound, so Utley gets the night off. Howie Kendrick is holding down the fort at second tonight, but with a .156/.174/.156 line through his first 45 at-bats, it's hard to trust him right now in any matchup.

Dodgers | Howie Kendrick out of lineup

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 15:45:00 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Howie Kendrick is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 26. 2B Chase Utley is starting at second base and is batting leadoff against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler.

Fantasy Tip: With Carl Crawford back from the DL, Kendrick could see even less playing time now as he splits time between left field and second base. That'll obviously hurt his value in mixed leagues, but he still has usefulness across most counting categories when he's in the lineup for the Blue.

Dodgers | Howie Kendrick in LF again

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 12:47:01 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Howie Kendrick is starting in left field again Tuesday, April 19, and he's hitting seventh in the batting order. 2B Chase Utley starts at second and is hitting leadoff against Atlanta Braves SP Williams Perez.

Fantasy Tip: This is notable because Kendrick could accrue enough starts in left field while Carl Crawford is on the DL to become eligible in the outfield for fantasy owners. Kendrick contributes modestly across all categories and would become even more useful in all leagues. Both he and Utley are acceptable lower-priced options to plug into your daily lineups tonight against Perez.

Dodgers | Yasiel Puig enjoys rare day off

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 15:55:49 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig is not in the lineup against San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto on Saturday, April 16. OF Trayce Thompson will occupy his spot in right field and bat eighth. 2B Chase Utley and SS Corey Seager are both back in the lineup after a day off and hitting first and second, respectively. C Yasmani Grandal will make his third appearance of the season behind the plate and bat fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Puig was due a rest after playing in each of the Dodgers' first 11 games, while Utley returns to the lineup against a right-hander after the Dodgers faced southpaws the last two days. Seager should be plugged right back into all lineups, while Grandal should probably be left on benches for now after coming off the disabled list earlier this week. On a side note, DFS players will be happy to know the red-hot Enrique Hernandez, who homered twice off Madison Bumgarner on Friday, will remain in the lineup.

Dodgers | Several Dodgers starters resting

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 15:41:22 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 3B Justin Turner, OF Joc Pederson, C Yasmani Grandal and 2B Chase Utley are all out of the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks left-handed SP Robbie Ray Thursday, April 14. 2B Howie Kendrick moves to third base, C Austin Barnes is starting at second and hitting eighth, OF Trayce Thompson is in center field and batting sixth, while OF Enrique Hernandez gets the start in left and is leading off.

Fantasy Tip: With a lot of moving parts in the Los Angeles lineup tonight, you should certainly consider using Ray in your lineup this evening. Barnes and Thompson are deep sleepers as lotto tickets in daily games. Hernandez, who has some thump in his stick, could be a sneaky deep sleeper while hitting leadoff.

Dodgers | Chase Utley leading off

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 13:04:09 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Chase Utley is leading off against San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross Monday, April 4.

Fantasy Tip: Utley should see plenty of at-bats with Howie Kendrick on the disabled list to start the season, and setting the table for a strong lineup is a plus for Utley. While the veteran had a career-worst campaign in 2015, Utley will have a fleeting uptick in value and can help in deep mixed and NL-only formats. Daily players could have a nice value option Monday, too.

Dodgers | Chase Utley's suspension overturned

Sun, 06 Mar 2016 08:56:11 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Chase Utley's two-game suspension for sliding into New York Mets SS Ruben Tejada during Game 2 of the NLDS last season has been overturned, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Utley should be viewed as nothing more than a reserve infield option in NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues after batting just .212 in 423 plate appearances last season. The 37-year-old could see playing time at first base, second base and third base this year but age and injuries appear to have caught up with him.

Dodgers | Justin Turner being held back

Mon, 29 Feb 2016 13:46:41 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers 3B Justin Turner (knee) will not play in the first week of Cactus League games, according to manager Dave Roberts. Turner underwent microfracture surgery on his left knee last November, and he was held out of workouts Monday, Feb. 29. 2Bs Chase Utley and Howie Kendrick are seeing time at third base in the meantime. Turner hasn't had any setbacks, though, and he's expected to be ready for Opening Day.

Fantasy Tip: There's a decent chance Turner's 2015 breakout was his peak, especially since he could be slow out of the gates this year because of his knee. He has developed a nice line-drive stroke and gets on base plenty, but don't overpay for him as a corner infielder on your fantasy squad.
