Blue Jays | R.A. Dickey could be dealt

Sat, 09 Jan 2016 10:12:35 -0800

The Toronto Blue Jays could use SP R.A. Dickey as trade bait this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Dickey went 11-11 in 33 starts last season but the 40-year-old right-hander could be the odd man out if the Jays decide to move Aaron Sanchez back to the starting rotation. He won't win another Cy Young Award in his career but he can still be a serviceable starter at the back end of fantasy rotations in single-universe and deep mixed leagues in 2016.

Blue Jays | Three regulars in Toronto returning

Tue, 03 Nov 2015 09:37:58 -0800

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista, 1B Edwin Encarnacion and SP R.A. Dickey all had their 2016 options picked up by the team Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Bautista and Encarnacion are similar aging players with plus-power still, but Encarnacion will fall further in drafts because he has more injury concerns. Dickey is far removed from his Cy Young season with the New York Mets in the National League. He continues to be a matchup play that has more success in the hitter-friendly confines of Rogers Centre, though.

Blue Jays | R.A. Dickey expected to return

Wed, 28 Oct 2015 18:01:00 -0700

The Toronto Blue Jays are expected to exercise their $12 million option on SP R.A. Dickey for the 2016 season, according to multiple sources. If the team declined the option, they would have to pay him a $1 million buyout.

Fantasy Tip: Dickey went 11-11 with a 3.91 ERA in 33 regular-season starts in 2015, with 61 walks and 126 strikeouts over 214 1/3 innings. The Jays admire the 40-year-old right-hander for his veteran leadership and durability and owners in AL-only fantasy leagues should keep him in mind for the middle or back end of their rotation when drafting next spring.

Blue Jays | R.A. Dickey successful against KC

Tue, 20 Oct 2015 12:39:13 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey faced the Kansas City Royals once this season. Dickey went seven scoreless innings on Aug. 2 with six strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Dickey ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) has been good at home, and the hope is he can replicate this in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series. This is an encouraging sign and one that should encourage you to put him in your FantasyScore lineup.

Blue Jays | R.A. Dickey was better at home

Tue, 20 Oct 2015 10:06:52 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey allowed a slash line of .197/.269/.346 at home this year compared to .296/.340/.469 on the road. Dickey allowed one run in 4 2/3 innings in Game 4 of the division series against the Texas Rangers.

Fantasy Tip: Dickey's ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) numbers at home should give you a little more comfort if you're gambling on him at FantasyScore, but he also fanned only 5.3 hitters per nine innings in 2015, and the Royals are one of the hardest teams to strike out consistently.

Blue Jays | Toronto announces ALCS rotation

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 14:31:02 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SPs Marco Estrada, David Price, Marcus Stroman and R.A. Dickey will start Games 1 through 4 in the American League Championship Series against the Kansas City Royals, which begins Friday, Oct. 16.

Fantasy Tip: The Toronto rotation isn't a huge shock considering their usage of their starters in the American League Division Series. Estrada checks out a potential No. 2 pitcher option for FantasyScore contests, but you'll want to see the entire player pool before locking in your lineups.

Blue Jays | R.A. Dickey may pitch Game 4

Sun, 11 Oct 2015 14:57:50 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey has been tapped as the starting pitcher for Game 4 of the American League Division Series Monday, Oct. 12, if the game is played.

Fantasy Tip: Dickey ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) may have David Price available out of the bullpen, so there is a chance Dickey will only pitch a few innings. At this rate, you may want to avoid using him in FantasyScore postseason play.

Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman to start Game 2

Tue, 06 Oct 2015 13:42:31 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman will start in Game 2 of the division series against the Texas Rangers Friday, Oct. 9. SPs Marco Estrada and R.A. Dickey will pitch in Games 3 and 4, and it's unknown who will start Game 3.

Fantasy Tip: It's a miraculous accomplishment for a pitcher that tore the ACL in his knee earlier this year. The risk surrounding Stroman ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) is clear, as he's made only four starts this season, although the results were very encouraging with five runs allowed and 18 strikeouts in 27 innings last month. He's also extremely fresh, making him a risk/reward selection in the divisional round.

Blue Jays | R.A. Dickey earns 100th win

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 19:14:52 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey (11-11) earned his 100th career major league victory against the Tampa Bay Rays Friday, Sept. 25. He allowed two runs on four hits over seven innings, with no walks and two strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Dickey ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) improved to 2-1 with a 2.78 ERA over five September starts and is 8-1 in 14 outings since the All-Star break. His next start will come Wednesday, Sept. 30, against the Baltimore Orioles.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin to catch R.A. Dickey

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 18:07:11 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin will be behind the plate Saturday, Sept. 19, when SP R.A. Dickey makes his next scheduled start against the Boston Red Sox. Josh Thole has served as Dickey's regular catcher since the beginning of August, but manager John Gibbons wants Martin and Dickey to have experience working together in preparation for the playoffs.

Fantasy Tip: Although it's a small sample size, Martin ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) has caught Dickey ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) in both spring training and the regular season, so he won't be caught totally off guard Saturday. Martin is batting .333 with three home runs and 11 RBIs over the past week, while Dickey is 1-1 with a 2.78 ERA through three starts this month. Both players are worthy of consideration for FantasyScore lineups.
