Rays | Matt Andriese may start Saturday

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 09:24:30 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Andriese might start for SP Erasmo Ramirez Saturday, April 23, against the New York Yankees. Ramirez pitching in relief on Thursday, April 21, caused the change.

Fantasy Tip: Andriese is an interesting pitcher to stream because he's proven he can be a big league starter. In fact, if he were on some other teams, he'd probably be on the major league pitching staff. Alas, he's just rotation depth in Tampa, but will have an opportunity on tap. The problem is, it's coming on the road at Yankee Stadium against an overdue offense. Owners can lay off him for this particular assignment, but he's someone to watch if a spot were to open up.

Rays | Erasmo Ramirez starting Saturday

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 12:50:03 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Erasmo Ramirez is starting against the Chicago White Sox Saturday, April 16.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez won 11 games with a 3.51 ERA, a 1.14 WHIP and a 6.9 K/9 through 27 starts last season, including a nine-start stretch where he allowed just seven earned runs and struck out 41 batters through 48 2/3 innings. There is upside here in the majority of seasonal leagues, but you'll likely want to be selective with who you start Ramirez against and keep expectations in check until he is fully stretched out.

Rays | Tampa starting with four-man rotation

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 10:03:37 -0700

The Tampa Bay Rays will start the year with a four-man rotation, which means SP Erasmo Ramirez will open the year in the bullpen.

Fantasy Tip: Some teams go this route with more off days in the early portion of the schedule in April. Ramirez showed more promise in his move to Tampa last year with improved ground-ball abilities and elite control. He's in line for some regression, though, since he doesn't strike out many. Purely an AL-only option for now.

Rays | Erasmo Ramirez ends winless drought

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 19:01:19 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Erasmo Ramirez allowed just five hits and no walks over seven scoreless innings in a win Tuesday, Aug. 11, against the Atlanta Braves. He also struck out four batters, picking up his first win in five starts since July 10.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) has lasted at least six innings in each of his past four outings, and six of the past seven. He hasn't been pitching badly lately and has re-emerged as a decent mid-level FantasyScore option when the matchup is favorable, especially at home.

Rays | Erasmo Ramirez earns win Friday

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 19:36:18 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Erasmo Ramirez (8-3) allowed one run on four hits over six innings in a victory over the Houston Astros Friday, July 10, with one walk and five strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) earned his sixth win in his last seven starts and has allowed two runs or fewer in eight consecutive outings. He makes a solid No. 2 starting pitching option in FantasyScore.

Sun, 05 Jul 2015 16:49:00 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Erasmo Ramirez allowed one run on three hits over six innings in a win over the New York Yankees Sunday, July 5, and he has a 2.17 ERA since joining the rotation May 14.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) has a 1.18 ERA over his last seven starts, and while history says he will regress at some point, he makes a great No. 2 starter at FantasyScore right now.

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 20:19:51 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Erasmo Ramirez (groin) allowed one earned run, two hits and a walk with seven strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in a loss against the Cleveland Indians Tuesday, June 30.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($5,300; or 10.6% of cap) pitched pretty well after returning from a groin injury. It was his first loss in six starts. It appears safe to use him in FantasyScore despite the loss, as he had no setbacks following his injury.

Rays | Erasmo Ramirez to start Tuesday

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 20:16:10 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Erasmo Ramirez (groin) will make his first start Tuesday, June 29, against the Cleveland Indians since leaving his start June 20 with a strained right groin.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($5,300; or 10.6% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore until he can make it through a full start without any setbacks.

Rays | Erasmo Ramirez might start June 30

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 19:23:43 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Rays SP Erasmo Ramirez (groin) will have a bullpen session in the next few days and he might be back to take a turn in the rotation Tuesday, June 30.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore players will certainly want to hold off on using Ramirez ($4,900; or 9.8% of cap) until he can officially return and pitch without any lingering effects of his injury.
