Diamondbacks | Gerald Laird designated for assignment

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 05:16:22 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Gerald Laird (back) was reinstated from the 60-day disabled list and then designated for assignment on Thursday, Aug. 20.

Fantasy Tip: This move doesn't come as much of a surprise for Laird ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) and his FantasyScore owners, as he has lost playing time to Welington Castillo and Jarrod Saltamacchia. Be aware he will likely be just a backup with any team that latches on to him, but Laird could be worth a start or two if the right team picks him up.

Diamondbacks | Gerald Laird makes rehab appearance

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 19:03:18 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Gerald Laird (back) was able to catch five innings in a minor-league rehab game for Class AAA Reno Tuesday, Aug. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Laird might be back with the big club at some point, but he has such little FantasyScore appeal unless you're looking to punt a position and save salary to spread across other more valuable positions.

Braves | Evan Gattis doesn't expect to be out long

Tue, 01 Jul 2014 15:05:06 -0700

Atlanta Braves C Evan Gattis (back) still doesn't have a set timetable for his return, but he believes that his recovery period "won't be too long term."

Fantasy Tip: Gerald Laird and Christian Bethancourt will split duties behind the plate while Gattis recovers. Both Laird and Bethancourt are options in NL-only formats.

Braves | Evan Gattis to DL

Tue, 01 Jul 2014 08:08:06 -0700

The Atlanta Braves placed C Evan Gattis (back) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, July 1. He'll soon receive an epidural injection, after which he'd be restricted in activity for three to five days. It's uncertain whether he'll need more than the minimum time on the DL, but it's not likely that he'll require surgery. In his stead, Christian Bethancourt and Gerald Laird may split time, but manager Fredi Gonzalez hasn't yet decided.

Fantasy Tip: Bethancourt is your choice for fantasy purposes as a second mixed backstop. He's a defense-first prospect but has picked it up with the bat in the last year.

Braves | Evan Gattis remains out

Mon, 30 Jun 2014 15:28:20 -0700

Atlanta Braves C Evan Gattis (back) remains out of the starting lineup Monday, June 30, and C Christian Bethancourt will receive his second straight start. Gattis is dealing with an upper back injury and C Gerald Laird needs a day off. Manager Fredi Gonzalez doesn't have the results of Gattis' MRI results, but he's expected to be out the next few days.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis could land on the DL depending on his MRI results. Prepare for that possibility now. In weekly leagues, play it on the safe side and keep Gattis on your bench if you can get away with it.
