Red Sox | Shane Victorino could return Friday

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 06:00:20 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (calf) could be activated off the disabled list Friday, July 3. Victorino is on a rehab assignment at Class AAA Pawtucket, but the team wants him to play in consecutive games before he returns.

Fantasy Tip: Victorino will at least slide into a platoon with Jackie Bradley Jr. in right field. Bradley is just 3-for-25 this season so he could be sent back down when Victorino returns. Victorino is just a matchup play on FantasyScore at this juncture.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino not returning soon

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 19:44:01 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (calf) is not expected to be activated from the disabled list before the team returns from their upcoming road trip July 3, according to manager John Farrell.

Fantasy Tip: Farrell hopes that Victorino ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is able to play in nine consecutive rehab games before he is activated from the disabled list. Even when he returns, there is no guarantee of him getting regular playing time. Outside of AL-only and deep mixed fantasy leagues, it's hard to justify keeping him rostered.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino starting rehab assignment

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 14:37:57 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (calf) will play for Class AAA Pawtucket Wednesday, June 24, but it's unclear how long his rehab assignment will last. He's likely to be longer than the two-game stint he had with Class AA Portland last month. He hasn't played since May 23.

Fantasy Tip: The Red Sox will play it cautious with the oft-injured Victorino ($2,500, 5.0% of cap), so don't expect him back anytime soon. There's no guarantee he'll see everyday playing time when he's back, either, with Brock Holt ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) filling in very nicely in a utility role. Victorino shouldn't be owned in shallow mixed leagues.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino still in limbo

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 06:24:20 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (calf) will take part in a series of base-running drills this weekend and be further evaluated, if there are no setbacks, he will be "that much closer" to a rehab assignment, according to manager John Farrell. Victorino is expected to need at least a week of games during his minor league rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: The Red Sox outfield is already crowded, and Victorino remains without a firm timeline for a return. At best, he appears to be approximately two weeks away from returning. Victorino has hardly been a beacon of health, either, and fantasy owners should keep their expectations in check. After all, he has only played 50 games dating back to the beginning of the 2014 season.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino nearing rehab assignment

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 16:26:16 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (calf) could begin a rehab assignment as early as the end of this week.

Fantasy Tip: Victorino ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has dealt with calf issues all year, and he remains without an official return timetable. Injuries, both significant and nagging, have been an issue for Victorino in recent years, and you shouldn't be counting on him to contribute much this season. Plus, the Red Sox outfield is already a crowded group.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino placed on DL

Sun, 24 May 2015 11:02:44 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Boston Red Sox have placed OF Shane Victorino (calf) on the 15-day disabled list due to continued tightness in his calf, according to manager John Farrell. In a corresponding move, INF Jeff Bianchi was recalled from Class AAA Pawtucket.

Fantasy Tip: This marks the second time this season and sixth time since joining the Red Sox that Victorino ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has hit the disabled list. Rusney Castillo appears poised to receive the bulk of the playing time in right field while Victorino is out. If he is still available in seasonal AL-only or mixed fantasy leagues, grab him before it's too late.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino's calf flares up

Sat, 23 May 2015 18:28:27 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (calf) exited against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the fourth inning with tightness in his left calf Saturday, May 23.

Fantasy Tip: Victorino ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) hasn't been able to stay on the field this year, and after re-aggravating his calf injury, it is too early to tell how long he will be out.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino starting in RF

Sat, 23 May 2015 13:33:35 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino will start in right field and bat second in the order Saturday, May 23, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Fantasy Tip: Victorino ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) will make his first start since Wednesday, May 20. The right-handed hitting Victorino has been hitting .364 against lefties this season, and he'll be a strong option against Angels LHP C.J. Wilson.

Red Sox | Boston to rotate outfielders

Fri, 22 May 2015 13:44:06 -0700

Boston Red Sox OFs Rusney Castillo, Mookie Betts and Shane Victorino (calf) will all rotation between center field and right field, according to manager John Farrell. However, Victorino is currently day-to-day with a calf injury.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo and Betts ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) are both starting tonight with Victorino sidelined. Castillo and Betts may struggle to return value against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim starter Garrett Richards, who has returned to form this year following a gruesome knee injury in 2015. Victorino could be the odd-man out more often than not. Castillo should be owned in all leagues for his power-speed combo.
