Red Sox | Shane Victorino placed on DL

Sun, 24 May 2015 11:02:44 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Boston Red Sox have placed OF Shane Victorino (calf) on the 15-day disabled list due to continued tightness in his calf, according to manager John Farrell. In a corresponding move, INF Jeff Bianchi was recalled from Class AAA Pawtucket.

Fantasy Tip: This marks the second time this season and sixth time since joining the Red Sox that Victorino ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has hit the disabled list. Rusney Castillo appears poised to receive the bulk of the playing time in right field while Victorino is out. If he is still available in seasonal AL-only or mixed fantasy leagues, grab him before it's too late.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino's calf flares up

Sat, 23 May 2015 18:28:27 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (calf) exited against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the fourth inning with tightness in his left calf Saturday, May 23.

Fantasy Tip: Victorino ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) hasn't been able to stay on the field this year, and after re-aggravating his calf injury, it is too early to tell how long he will be out.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino starting in RF

Sat, 23 May 2015 13:33:35 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino will start in right field and bat second in the order Saturday, May 23, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Fantasy Tip: Victorino ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) will make his first start since Wednesday, May 20. The right-handed hitting Victorino has been hitting .364 against lefties this season, and he'll be a strong option against Angels LHP C.J. Wilson.

Red Sox | Boston to rotate outfielders

Fri, 22 May 2015 13:44:06 -0700

Boston Red Sox OFs Rusney Castillo, Mookie Betts and Shane Victorino (calf) will all rotation between center field and right field, according to manager John Farrell. However, Victorino is currently day-to-day with a calf injury.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo and Betts ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) are both starting tonight with Victorino sidelined. Castillo and Betts may struggle to return value against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim starter Garrett Richards, who has returned to form this year following a gruesome knee injury in 2015. Victorino could be the odd-man out more often than not. Castillo should be owned in all leagues for his power-speed combo.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino out with calf injury

Thu, 21 May 2015 13:58:38 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (calf) has a sore left calf muscle, which is why he's not in the starting lineup against the Texas Rangers Thursday, May 21, according to manager John Farrell.

Fantasy Tip: Between health problems and bat shortcomings, there isn't a lot to like about Victorino's ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) fantasy stock going forward. Currently, he is just 13-for-54 with six runs and three RBI for this season. The biggest concern, though, is the looming recall of Rusney Castillo. Castillo projects to take over everyday duties in right field sooner than later.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino still out

Thu, 21 May 2015 13:04:28 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino is not in the starting lineup against the Texas Rangers Thursday, May 21. OF Daniel Nava is batting eighth and playing right field Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Victorino ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has now started just one of the last five games, and it is significant Thursday because a lefty is on the hill. Seasonal owners should be considering a replacement for him, if they haven't already dropped him. Nava ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is nothing more than a desperation flier in FantasyScore contests.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino sitting again vs. Texas

Wed, 20 May 2015 14:54:32 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino is not in the starting lineup against the Texas Rangers Wednesday, May 20. OF Daniel Nava is batting sixth and playing right field Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Victorino ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is off to a terrible start at the plate (.212/.349/.308 slash line with just six runs, a home run and three RBI), and it is his second consecutive game riding pine. His value is fading. Nava ($1,800, 3.6% of cap), somehow, has been even worse. Avoid both in all fantasy formats until either strings together a solid run at the dish, and they may end up platooning and somewhat curbing each other's value. Given their combined struggles, Rusney Castillo projects to trump both soon, although, Manager John Farrell said "nothing is imminent" on that front Wednesday.

Red Sox | Daniel Nava starting in RF

Tue, 19 May 2015 14:41:19 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Daniel Nava is starting in right field and hitting seventh in the batting order against Texas Rangers SP Yovani Gallardo Tuesday, May 19. OF Shane Victorino is sitting the bench.

Fantasy Tip: The Red Sox are occasionally resting Victorino in order to keep him fresh. Nava ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) hasn't done much of anything with the bat this year, hitting just .160 (8-for-50) with no homers and seven RBI. Nava has been much better in his career against right-handers, but until we see signs of life from the reserve outfielder, it's best to avoid him at FantasyScore.

Red Sox | Jackie Bradley draws start Wednesday

Wed, 13 May 2015 09:53:39 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Jackie Bradley Jr. is starting in right field and hitting eighth in the batting order against Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray Wednesday, May 13. OF Shane Victorino is sitting the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Bradley ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is making his second start of the season, and h'es 0-for-5 on the year after being called up over the weekend. Bradley makes for a very weak play against Gray, who has been really tough on lefty hitters in 2015.

Red Sox | Shane Victorino returning to lineup

Mon, 11 May 2015 09:13:19 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino (hamstring) will come off the disabled list and return to the starting lineup Monday, May 11, and Tuesday, May 12, with the Red Sox facing two left-handed pitchers, according to manager John Farrell. "When Vic gets back to us, Vic's going to get left-handed starters, if not more," Farrell said. "But Jackie's arrival here gives us a premium defender, and we certainly like him against a lot of right-handed pitchers. We'll find the right matchups. I'm not going to say it's a strict platoon situation, by any means." Farrell also said he won't move OF Mookie Betts to right field to have OF Jackie Bradley Jr. play center field on days that they are both in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Victorino ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) should at least see semi-regular playing time in right field, and he could split time with Bradley or Daniel Nava. Coming off a DL stint and facing Oakland Athletics starter Scott Kazmir Monday isn't a time you should trust Victorino for your FantasyScore lineups.
