Boston Red Sox SP Jake Peavy (finger) did some throwing Tuesday, March 4, but he hasn't been cleared to put his glove on yet. He'll throw a bullpen Wednesday, March 5, but it's still unknown if he'll be ready for the start of the season in time. SPs Chris Capuano or Brandon Workman are candidates to take his spot in the rotation if he opens up on the disabled list.

The Boston Red Sox see SP Chris Capuano pitching out of the bullpen this season. "Experience of both starting and pitching out of the bullpen. Clearly gives us a depth starter if that need were to arise," manager John Farrell said. "But at the moment, all things considered, he would pitch out of the bullpen for us." RPs Craig Breslow and Andrew Miller are the other lefties in the bullpen.

The Boston Red Sox signed free-agent SP Chris Capuano (Dodgers) to a one-year minor league deal that includes an invite to spring camp Thursday, Feb. 20, according to a league source. Capuano went 4-7 with a 4.26 ERA in 24 outings (20 starts) for the Los Angeles Dodgers last year. He'll likely provide depth for the team's rotation.
