The Seattle Mariners recalled RP Carter Capps from the minors Tuesday, Aug. 6, and released OF Jason Bay in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: Capps could become an option for saves in the ninth inning if Danny Farquhar stumbles. Pick him up in AL-only leagues if you're hunting for save avenues.

Seattle Mariners OF Mike Morse (quadriceps) was scheduled to play in his fourth rehab game in right field for Triple-A Tacoma late last week, and he could rejoin the team soon. Morse hit .222 (2-for-9) with a home run and a double in his first three games with Tacoma. "I talked to him briefly today and he's champing at the bit," acting manager Robby Thompson said. "He says he feels real good." Morse can come off the disabled list whenever he's ready. Morse is closer to a return than OF Franklin Gutierrez (hamstring), who is also rehabbing at Tacoma.
Fantasy Tip: Endy Chavez and Jason Bay are in danger of losing serious playing time or being cut altogether when Morse returns.

Seattle Mariners SS Brad Miller is batting leadoff Friday, July 5, although he's hitting only .200 (4-for-20) with a .300 on-base percentage. The Mariners have yet to settle for a single leadoff guy, trying OFs Jason Bay, Endy Chavez, Michael Saunders and Franklin Gutierrez there. Bay and Chavez aren't in the lineup Friday. Miller has experience with hitting leadoff in the minors and feels comfortable at the top spot.

Seattle Mariners OF/2B Dustin Ackley should get his chances to play after his call-up on Tuesday, June 25. OF Michael Saunders is struggling, OF Jason Bay (hamstring) just recovered from a mild hamstring issue, and OFs Raul Ibanez and Endy Chavez are 41 and 35 years old, respectively. "He's going to play," manager Eric Wedge said. "We're going to get him in there. We'll keep working him in the outfield, but you might see him in the infield if we need him there." The manager also said that Ackley has earned his return to the majors based on his performance with the bat at Triple-A Tacoma since his demotion.
Fantasy Tip: It sounds like the M's are still going to have a hard time fitting him in there, so Ackley may have to make the most of his opportunities. Of course, if something clicked while he was on the farm, he may just do so. Seattle is looking for a reason to commit to him, so Ackley is worth stashing in 15-team mixed leagues and those deeper, just in case.

Seattle Mariners OF Jason Bay is batting leadoff Wednesday, May 22, and OF Mike Morse has been moved to No. 3 in the lineup. OF Michael Saunders is 4-for-32 (.125) with a .152 on-base percentage and a .188 slugging percentage during the team's road trip. Saunders is hitting second Wednesday and 3B Kyle Seager was rested. "I think he's expanded the (strike) zone a little bit from time to time," manager Eric Wedge said of Saunders. "You know what? When he stays in his zone, he does some damage. So, I think he's just expanded his zone, is trying to do too much. So, again, we're at our best when these guys are willing and able to set the bat down and take the walk and let the next guy get a shot at it."
Fantasy Tip: Bay has actually been respectable in his time with the M's, and he's been more valuable in on-base percentage leagues. Don't automatically pass him up on the waiver wire in deep mixed leagues if you need help in this category.

Seattle Mariners OF/DH Raul Ibanez started in left field for the second consecutive game Saturday, May 11, against the Oakland Athletics, because manager Eric Wedge wanted him to feel more comfortable at the plate. Ibanez went 1-for-3, raising his average to .194, but OF Jason Bay is expected to play left field Sunday, May 12.
