Free-agent RP Luis Ayala (Braves) has reportedly drawn preliminary interest from the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays. The Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies and San Francisco Giants have also shown interest in him this offseason, while the Kansas City Royals have backed off pursuing him.

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Orioles RP Luis Ayala said he will not pitch for Mexico in the World Baseball Classic because he needs rest after pitching in a winter league this offseason. "Everybody wants to represent their country. It was a tough decision for me, because I played winter league but I didn't rest. So at this time in my career ... you don't want to be away, but you have to be away from that, [so] I think I need rest. I think it will make my performance [better during the season], to take care of myself at this time. I was so tired, had a lot of fatigue from the winter and Caribbean Series," Ayala said.
