Seattle Mariners 2B Rickie Weeks hit leadoff Wednesday, March 25. Manager Lloyd McClendon previously endorsed OF Austin Jackson as the teams leadoff hitter. "I like Rickie as a leadoff hitter, too," McClendon said. "Austin led off yesterday, Rickie is leading off today. I'm just playing with things. That's all."
Fantasy Tip: Weeks ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) will serve in a platoon role with the Mariners. He'll receive the bulk of his playing time against left-handed pitchers and sharing outfield duties with Dustin Ackley. His role limits him to having AL-only league value, but he's a solid, thrifty pick in FantasyScore games due to his hitting prowess against southpaws. A move to the leadoff spot would only further enhance his FantasyScore appeal.

Seattle Mariners 2B Rickie Weeks has taken grounders at first base, but the team is not sure if he will see action in spring games at that spot.
Fantasy Tip: It appears the club wants to get Weeks into the lineup a little more, as his path at second would be blocked (barring injury) by Robinson Cano. Logan Morrison, Willie Bloomquist and Dustin Ackley also play first base, so Weeks could get a few more at-bats. For now, Weeks carries lesser fantasy value than he did in Milwaukee with the Brewers.

Seattle Mariners 2B Rickie Weeks is expected to be part of a platoon in left field with OF Dustin Ackley, although the projected platoons are not expected to be part of the plan during spring games.
Fantasy Tip: Weeks might have some added fantasy appeal if he becomes eligible in the outfield, as well as second base/middle infield.

Seattle Mariners OF Dustin Ackley is expected to split time in left field with 2B Rickie Weeks, according to manager Lloyd McClendon. However, McClendon doesn't plan on using projected platoons in spring games. For example, Ackley will see playing time against left-handers in camp.
Fantasy Tip: The fact that Ackley is expected to share time in Seattle's outfield in 2015 severely affects his mixed league fantasy value. He's maybe a candidate to round out your outfield depth in really deep mixed leagues, but he should be seen as mainly an AL-only commodity right now.

Seattle Mariners 2B Rickie Weeks said he began to embrace the idea of playing more games in a utility role as he began talking with teams during free agency. "I don't know what people think but, for myself, I know I can play better," Weeks said. "I showed what I can do last year for the time I did play. I'm very hungry. I play hard baseball. I'm just very eager to get out there."
