Royals | KC interested in Nick Markakis

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 18:40:16 -0700

The Kansas City Royals have expressed interest in Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis. However, Atlanta would likely have to eat a portion of the $22 million he is owed through the 2018 season in order to make a deal possible.

Fantasy Tip: The 32-year-old Markakis was batting .260 with five home runs and 47 RBI through 94 games entering play Friday, July 22, and is a viable outfield option for single-universe fantasy leagues. With the Braves clearly in rebuilding mode, Markakis could be moved in order to give more at-bats to OFs Ender Inciarte and Mallex Smith.

Braves | Several Braves could be dealt

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 14:38:03 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jeff Francoeur, 2B Gordon Beckham and RP Jim Johnson, who are all pending free agents, are the prime focus of Atlanta's trade talks as the deadline nears. OFs Ender Inciarte and Nick Markakis are also involved, but there's less of a chance they'll be traded.

Fantasy Tip: Francoeur, Beckham and Johnson aren't likely to be anything more than depth for any team that acquires them in a trade this summer. Francoeur can be useful in NL-only and daily leagues in the right lefty matchups. Beckham contributes modestly across all categories for NL-only middle infield depth. Right now, Johnson is a candidate for saves in Atlanta with Arodys Vizcaino shelved, but he's already shown he's a shaky option there.

Braves | Nick Markakis will be DH

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 08:37:21 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis will serve as the designated hitter against Chicago White Sox SP Jose Quintana Saturday, July 9. OF Jeff Francoeur will start in right field, while SS Chase d'Arnaud will start in left field and is batting first.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis has posted solid numbers this season and should be a decent starting option for owners. Francoeur should be considered by owners in daily fantasy leagues because he is hitting .286 with three RBI over the last seven days. D'Arnaud has struggled over the last week and can be avoided by owners.

Braves | Nick Markakis homers again

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 21:42:12 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored in an 11-8 win over the Chicago White Sox Friday, July 8, and he has three homers in his last two games.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis had just two homers prior to the last two games, so the power surge isn't going to last. His value is limited to NL-only leagues.

Braves | Nick Markakis homers twice

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 04:39:25 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis hit his third and fourth homers of the season Thursday, July 7, in a 4-3 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Fantasy Tip: The veteran slugger has lost a lot of power at the plate and nearly 40 points off his batting average, but Markakis surpassed his homer total of a year ago. Lost in the disappointment was the fact Markakis had 181 hits last season and has 83 after Thursday. He won't give you power, but Markakis is still worth DFS and regular play.

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 07:14:25 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis is hitting cleanup Thursday, June 16.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis is hitting just .245 this month, but he has upside in the cleanup spot against Dan Straily. Markakis is a low-end option in DFS.

Braves | Four players sitting for Atlanta

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 06:32:40 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Gordon Beckham, OF Nick Markakis, 2B Kelly Johnson and C A.J. Pierzynski are not in the starting lineup against San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner Thursday, June 2. SS Chase d'Arnaud will start at second base and is batting second. OF Jeff Francoeur will start in right field and is batting fourth in the lineup. C Tyler Flowers will start at catcher and is batting sixth, while 2B Daniel Castro will start at shortstop and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: All four players in the lineup have received decent playing time against left-handed pitching this season. Francoeur and d'Arnaud have posted solid numbers over the last seven days and should be considered sleeper options in daily fantasy leagues. Flowers and Castro should be avoided in most leagues since they have struggled at the plate.

Braves | Nick Markakis having dismal May

Fri, 27 May 2016 00:25:48 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis is hitting .159 in 82 at-bats during the month of May. He was hitless in the series against the Milwaukee Brewers, going 0-for-9.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis is a Jekyll and Hyde kind of player. He has a dismal batting average this month, yet Markakis leads the team with 24 runs batted in. Atlanta is having an awful year, and the fantasy values of several players are dropping like a rock. Markakis should not be given fantasy consideration at this point, even with 24 RBI.

Braves | Nick Markakis, Erick Aybar sitting

Thu, 26 May 2016 14:47:56 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis (rest) and SS Erick Aybar (rest) are not in the lineup Thursday, May 26. OF Jeff Francoeur is starting in right field and batting sixth, while SS Daniel Castro is in at shortstop and hitting seventh opposite Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta.

Fantasy Tip: If defense counted in fantasy, Castro would have a little more value, but with a dead bat, he really shouldn't be on any rosters. Francoeur, meanwhile, is the definition of a dart throw, as he's capable of providing some pop with the lumber once in a blue moon. Both guys can be left on the wire.

Braves | Nick Markakis hits first homer Friday

Fri, 20 May 2016 19:56:19 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk against the Philadelphia Phillies Friday, May 20. The home run was his first of 2016 and came in his 151st at-bat of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis is batting less than .200 in May and the home run was just his second extra-base hit of the month in more than 60 at-bats. He should be avoided in all fantasy formats until he can string together several productive performances.
