Braves | Nick Markakis cleaning up

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 07:14:25 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis is hitting cleanup Thursday, June 16.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis is hitting just .245 this month, but he has upside in the cleanup spot against Dan Straily. Markakis is a low-end option in DFS.

Braves | Four players sitting for Atlanta

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 06:32:40 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Gordon Beckham, OF Nick Markakis, 2B Kelly Johnson and C A.J. Pierzynski are not in the starting lineup against San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner Thursday, June 2. SS Chase d'Arnaud will start at second base and is batting second. OF Jeff Francoeur will start in right field and is batting fourth in the lineup. C Tyler Flowers will start at catcher and is batting sixth, while 2B Daniel Castro will start at shortstop and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: All four players in the lineup have received decent playing time against left-handed pitching this season. Francoeur and d'Arnaud have posted solid numbers over the last seven days and should be considered sleeper options in daily fantasy leagues. Flowers and Castro should be avoided in most leagues since they have struggled at the plate.

Braves | Nick Markakis having dismal May

Fri, 27 May 2016 00:25:48 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis is hitting .159 in 82 at-bats during the month of May. He was hitless in the series against the Milwaukee Brewers, going 0-for-9.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis is a Jekyll and Hyde kind of player. He has a dismal batting average this month, yet Markakis leads the team with 24 runs batted in. Atlanta is having an awful year, and the fantasy values of several players are dropping like a rock. Markakis should not be given fantasy consideration at this point, even with 24 RBI.

Braves | Nick Markakis, Erick Aybar sitting

Thu, 26 May 2016 14:47:56 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis (rest) and SS Erick Aybar (rest) are not in the lineup Thursday, May 26. OF Jeff Francoeur is starting in right field and batting sixth, while SS Daniel Castro is in at shortstop and hitting seventh opposite Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta.

Fantasy Tip: If defense counted in fantasy, Castro would have a little more value, but with a dead bat, he really shouldn't be on any rosters. Francoeur, meanwhile, is the definition of a dart throw, as he's capable of providing some pop with the lumber once in a blue moon. Both guys can be left on the wire.

Braves | Nick Markakis hits first homer Friday

Fri, 20 May 2016 19:56:19 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk against the Philadelphia Phillies Friday, May 20. The home run was his first of 2016 and came in his 151st at-bat of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis is batting less than .200 in May and the home run was just his second extra-base hit of the month in more than 60 at-bats. He should be avoided in all fantasy formats until he can string together several productive performances.

Braves | Nick Markakis in cleanup spot

Fri, 20 May 2016 12:34:26 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis is hitting cleanup against Philadelphia Phillies SP Aaron Nola Friday, May 20. 2B Gordon Beckham is playing third base and moves up to the No. 2 spot in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis, who has no home runs on the year, isn't your prototypical cleanup hitter. In a weak Atlanta lineup, the move to fourth doesn't really do anything to increase his fantasy value. He remains a weak option for outfield depth in deeper mixed and NL-only leagues. Beckham has hit .333 but also has no home runs and eight RBI. The move to the two-hole is good for his daily value, but he, too, doesn't move the fantasy needle all that much.

Braves | Nick Markakis will be DH

Sun, 15 May 2016 10:38:41 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis will serve as the designated hitter against Kansas City Royals SP Danny Duffy Sunday, May 15. OF Jeff Francoeur will start in right field and is batting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis has struggled a bit at the plate over the last seven days but should still be a decent option in deeper mixed leagues. Francoeur has a hit in each of his last three games and could be a sleeper option in daily fantasy leagues.

Braves | Jeff Francoeur draws into lineup

Fri, 13 May 2016 15:21:28 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jeff Francoeur is starting in right field and is hitting sixth against Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez Friday, May 13. OF Nick Markakis is serving as the designated hitter in an American League park.

Fantasy Tip: Francoeur has fared much better against southpaws in 2016 and is hitting just .148 with four RBI in 27 at-bats against right-handers. He does have a home run in limited career at-bats versus Volquez, but Frenchy should be viewed as a low-end daily option for your outfield.

Braves | Nick Markakis back in action

Fri, 06 May 2016 13:51:17 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis (personal) is back in the starting lineup and returns to his customary leadoff spot against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke Friday, May 6.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis hits for average and will score his fair share of runs out of the leadoff spot, but he doesn't contribute much else to the counting stats. He's more of a low-end daily pick tonight against Greinke.

Braves | Nick Markakis expected back Friday

Wed, 04 May 2016 16:59:38 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis is expected to return to the starting lineup Friday, May 6, after leaving the team because of a family emergency. The Braves do not play Thursday, May 5.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis has been a hitting machine (.281, 27-for-96 with 20 RBI), but he doesn't run much these days and has isn't a lock for double-digit home runs anymore, either. You can count on him to buoy your average, but not for much else, which makes him a mediocre fantasy talent in deep mixed and NL-only leagues.
