Braves | Nick Markakis the next to go?

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 07:27:37 -0800

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis is of trade interest to the Kansas City Royals, and he could also be on the radar of the Baltimore Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis saw a number of his would-be home runs turn into doubles this past season, as he cleared the fence just three times and hit 38 doubles, which was his highest total of doubles since 2010. Markakis hit .296 and scored 73 runs, so there was value in deep formats, but Markakis doesn't move the needle enough in the power or speed departments to warrant attention in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Braves | Freddie Freeman being shopped

Mon, 16 Nov 2015 10:37:49 -0800

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman is being shopped this offseason, according to sources from three different teams. One source said discussions were "the talk of the (Arizona) Fall League" this month. Freeman hit .276 with 18 home runs and 66 RBI in 118 games in 2015 and is signed through 2021 and is owed $118.5 million over those six years. The Braves are also considering trading SP Julio Teheran and OFs Nick Markakis and Cameron Maybin as they look to rebuild.

Fantasy Tip: The Braves traded defensive specialist Andrelton Simmons last week and are clearly looking to rebuild. Freeman is their best player remaining, and he easily has 20-plus home run power over a full season. A move out of Atlanta would likely boost his fantasy value even further.

Braves | Nick Markakis back to Orioles?

Mon, 16 Nov 2015 00:06:35 -0800

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis has some people in the Baltimore Orioles organization that would love to see him back with the Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: The main reason Markakis was allowed to walk had to do with fusion surgery Markakis had prior to 2015, as the Orioles thought Markakis wouldn't be the same. Markakis may go if the Braves are intent on blowing up the team and starting over, so stay tuned.

Braves | Nick Markakis nursing trapezius injury

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 15:47:07 -0700

"We're just going to give him a couple of days," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Yesterday was the worst of it; today he says he started to feel a little better. So tomorrow he should be good to go."

Fantasy Tip: As expected, Markakis ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is dealing with an injury, and while it sounds minor, maximizing at-bats at this stage of the fantasy season is important. In the majority of leagues where Markakis holds value, you'll be able to grab a suitable replacement. Don't be afraid to surf the waiver wire for an outfield replacement.

Braves | Nick Markakis sitting out vs. Philly

Sun, 20 Sep 2015 08:34:08 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis is not in the starting lineup Sunday, Sept. 20. OF Michael Bourn is starting in right field and batting first against Philadelphia Phillies SP Aaron Nola Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Leading the National League in at-bats, Markakis ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is likely due to have a day off. He owns a sneaky-good .371 on-base percentage this season and 37 doubles. Still, he is a low-end outfielder in the majority of formats. Bourn ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) owns a .226/.298/.271 slash line this season, and he has been even worse since joining Atlanta. It is safe to pass on Bourn at FantasyScore Sunday.

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 10:28:13 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Markakis ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has easily been the Braves' most consistent hitter all season long. While he doesn't hit for power, he continues to get on base frequently and is a solid FantasyScore pick on a daily basis because of it.
