Angels | David DeJesus out of Sunday lineup

Sun, 02 Aug 2015 12:02:48 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF David DeJesus is not in the lineup Sunday, Aug. 2, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. OF David Murphy is in left field.

Fantasy Tip: DeJesus ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) projects as a platoon outfielder, but the absence of a DH most likely played a role in this. Because the game is at Dodger Stadium, pitcher Cory Rasmus is in the bottom spot. DeJesus should be back in a day or two, but keep an eye on his playing time.

Angels | David Murphy playing left field

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 17:21:45 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF David Murphy will bat fifth and start in left field against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Zack Greinke Friday, July 31.

Fantasy Tip: This could be a sign that manager Mike Scioscia prefers using Murphy ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) in left field versus right-handers, as opposed to David DeJesus ($3,600, 7.2% of cap), who is not in the lineup. Murphy is 4-for-16 in his career against Greinke and FantasyScore owners searching for cap relief should consider him for their lineups.

Angels | David Murphy hitting cleanup Wednesday

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 15:32:38 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF David Murphy is starting in left field and hitting cleanup against Houston Astros SP Lance McCullers in his debut with the team Wednesday, July 29.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) should be expected to hit near the middle of the lineup regularly when the team faces right-handers. However, he'll probably be the designated hitter more often than not, making C.J. Cron's value drop. Take advantage of Murphy's low salary on FantasyScore while you still can. The specialist has a .297/.341/.432 slash line with all five of his home runs against righties.

Angels | Matt Joyce's time with Angels done?

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 09:27:49 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Matt Joyce (concussion), who is currently on the seven-day concussion disabled list, might not have a spot on the team anymore after the Angels traded for OFs Shane Victorino, David Murphy and David DeJesus in the last two days. Joyce was hitting .178 with five home runs and 21 RBI as the team's left fielder. General manager Bill Stoneman made no announcements on Joyce's future. Joyce was in an 0-for-23 slump and is hitless since July 9. Stoneman is hesitant to part with any of the team's top prospects, such as SP Sean Newcomb, in order to further improve the outfield.

Fantasy Tip: If you were holding onto Joyce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) in a deep AL-only league, it's probably time to cut him. Victorino, Murphy and DeJesus could all see consistent playing time in platoon roles in left field and at designated hitter, but it could be a frustrating situation for fantasy owners to tread through.

Indians | David Murphy dealt for prospect

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 16:06:56 -0700

The Cleveland Indians dealt OF David Murphy to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Tuesday, July 28, and they received SS Eric Stamets in return.

Fantasy Tip: Stamets hasn't played above Class AA in his professional career, and he's unlikely to see the major leagues this season. Ryan Raburn ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) should receive the biggest boost in playing time, and he can offer some cap relief on FantasyScore, against left-handed pitching.

Angels | David Murphy joining Halos

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 16:03:15 -0700

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim acquired OF David Murphy from the Cleveland Indians Tuesday, July 28, in exchange for SS Eric Stamets.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) will continue to see the majority of his playing time against right-handed pitchers, against whom he is hitting .297 for the season, with 11 doubles and five home runs. Murphy will likely platoon with C.J. Cron as a designated hitter.

Indians | David Murphy cleaning up

Wed, 22 Jul 2015 08:28:42 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF David Murphy is hitting cleanup Wednesday, July 22, against Milwaukee Brewers SP Kyle Lohse.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has a great matchup against Lohse, and he's hitting .306 on the year. He has slumped to a .200 clip this month, but this price is golden on FantasyScore for a player hitting cleanup.

Indians | David Murphy not starting Tuesday

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 14:42:17 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF David Murphy is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, July 21, against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) is likely the victim of games at Miller Park, where there is no designated hitter. Sit Murphy for this game and monitor his status for the other games in NL parks.

Indians | Brandon Moss out vs. lefty

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 12:34:41 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Brandon Moss is not in the lineup against Houston Astros left-handed SP Brett Oberholtzer Thursday, July 9. OF David Murphy is starting in right field and hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) typically only starts against right-handed pitchers, but he's receiving a start after a clutch late-inning hit off a southpaw last night. He does have four hits in 10 at-bats against lefties, but he'll remain a weak play on FantasyScore because of the lefty-on-lefty factor.
