Fantasy Tip: The ballpark doesn't do him any favors, but he's still a quality major league hitter. He's worth stashing in AL-only leagues.

Red Sox | David Murphy to retire?

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 04:53:17 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF David Murphy is contemplating retirement rather than being sent to the minor leagues. Murphy signed a minor league deal with Boston as spring camps got underway.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Murphy made the parent club, Boston's outfield situation is so bottlenecked that he might not see a ton of playing time. He's best left on the bench.

Rangers | Texas eyeing Alejandro De Aza

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 10:56:28 -0800

The Texas Rangers are "keeping tabs" on New York Mets OF Alejandro De Aza in case OF Josh Hamilton's (knee) knee woes continue. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson has acknowledged that they could trade De Aza because they have an excess of outfielders. The Rangers are also considering free-agent OFs David Murphy (Angels) and Will Venable (Rangers).

Fantasy Tip: As things stand now as a fifth outfielder for the Mets, De Aza has very little fantasy value. However, if he's traded or the Mets suffer an injury that would open up significant playing time, he could be attractive in deep mixed and single-universe leagues late in drafts.

Angels | David Murphy still an option for Angels?

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 14:30:39 -0800

Free-agent OF David Murphy (Angels) could still return to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and platoon in left field with a right-handed-hitting outfielder.

Fantasy Tip: The Angels are strapped for cash, and Murphy is a stopgap option for them. At best, he is a low-end outfielder in cavernous mixed and AL/NL-only leagues, as he doesn't project to receive full-time at-bats. He is a better FantasyScore option in favorable matchups.
