Twins | Big game for Joe Mauer

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 20:01:41 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, two RBI and two runs scored in a 5-3 win over the Kansas City Royals Saturday, July 4.

Fantasy Tip: Mauer ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has had a tough year overall, and his .272 average is well below his career mark. Meanwhile, he has hit just five homers as his power continues to erode. Big games like tonight's are becoming the exception rather than the norm for Mauer, and there are usually more attractive options for a similar price at FantasyScore.

Twins | Joe Mauer returns

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 15:13:25 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer returns to the starting lineup Thursday, July 2, against the Kansas City Royals. Mauer will hit third in the lineup against RHP Chris Young.

Fantasy Tip: Mauer ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has fared a little better at the plate of late, going 7-for-22 in his last five starts. Still, Mauer remains without any reliable power, and FantasyScore owners can find options with much more upside.

Twins | Joe Mauer sitting out

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 08:00:35 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer is out of the lineup Wednesday, July 1, in favor of 1B Kennys Vargas.

Fantasy Tip: It's a good day for Mauer to sit in the NL park against ace Johnny Cueto. Vargas ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) had a .235-2-5 line in June, and his matchup is one to avoid on FantasyScore.

Twins | Joe Mauer resting for Game 1

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 07:47:06 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer is out of the lineup for Game 1 of the doubleheader Wednesday, June 3, against a left-hander.

Fantasy Tip: Shane Robinson ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) took the open spot in the lineup, but he doesn't have enough upside to use on FantasyScore.

Twins | Joe Mauer out of lineup

Thu, 07 May 2015 08:53:35 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer is out of the lineup Thursday, May 7.

Fantasy Tip: Eddie Rosario ($1,800, 3.6% of your cap) takes Mauer's place in the lineup, but he has just four major league at-bats. He's not an option we'd use on FantasyScore.

Twins | Joe Mauer pulling the ball more

Mon, 04 May 2015 14:58:34 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer has never been much of a pull hitter in his career, with just 344 of his 1,540 hits (22.3%) going to the pull side in his 11 seasons before 2015. However, he's already pulled 10 of his 29 hits (33.5%) to right field through 25 games this year. But Mauer said it hasn't been a point of emphasis this year. "We talked about this in spring training. It's more of a physical thing than anything, just being able to move and being able to get to those pitches," Mauer said. "I've always had that approach of trying to spray the field. It's no different this year." Part of the reason may be because Mauer is being more aggressive early in counts, and manager Paul Molitor noticed Mauer is swinging at more first pitches than in the past. Mauer has swung at the first pitch seven times this year after swinging at the first pitch 27 times all of 2014. He is hitting .305 on the year after a career-low .277 average last season, and a return to full health has been a big reason why.

Fantasy Tip: Mauer ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) was left to the waiver wire in a lot of shallow mixed leagues, but he's worth a pickup if you're looking for consistency at a first base or corner infield spot.

Twins | Joe Mauer likes facing King Felix

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 16:10:41 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer has a career slash line of .378/.439/.649 with two home runs and four doubles in 37 at-bats against Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez. OF Torii Hunter also sports a career average of .320 against Hernandez in 75 at-bats.

Fantasy Tip: Both Mauer ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) and Hunter ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) are against-the-grain FantasyScore plays to get a leg up on your competiton.

Twins | Joe Mauer drives in three

Thu, 16 Apr 2015 21:24:03 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer went 1-for-4 with three RBIs in an 8-5 win over the Kansas City Royals Thursday, April 16.

Fantasy Tip: Mauer ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) had just a single RBI heading into Thursday's game, and he is still looking for his first extra-base hit on the year and has scored just one run. His total lack of power severely limits his upside, and Mauer isn't going to add much to a FantasyScore lineup.

Twins | Minny manager talks top of the lineup

Mon, 30 Mar 2015 14:32:01 -0700

Minnesota Twins SS Danny Santana, 2B Brian Dozier and 1B Joe Mauer will bat first through third in the order, respectively, according to manager Paul Molitor. Molitor noted the rest of the lineup will change based on matchups.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore players will want to note the Twins scored the sixth most runs in baseball last season, and their lineup might be underrated. Against weak pitchers, stacking a few Twins is a sound strategy, especially with Santana ($4,500, 9.0% of cap), Dozier ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) and Mauer ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) carrying mid-range prices.

Twins | Joe Mauer won't bat lower than third

Thu, 26 Feb 2015 14:03:18 -0800

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer will not bat lower than third in the order, according to manager Paul Molitor.

Fantasy Tip: Without catcher eligibility, Mauer's fantasy stock plummets. At best, he is a three-category contributor (runs, RBIs and batting average), but last season he hit just .277. Additionally, Mauer turns 32 this season and should begin to see his numbers decline across the board. Expect his name value to push him into overrated territory in drafts, and there is no reason to target Mauer until the later middle rounds in mixed leagues.
