Twins | Joe Mauer not ready to resume hitting

Sun, 20 Jul 2014 10:47:13 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer (oblique) is unable to resume hitting because he is still experiencing pain in his right oblique, according to manager Ron Gardenhire. "He said there's certain things he does right now that he still feels it, coughing and sneezing and things like that, definitely feels it, so he's obviously not ready to take swings or any of that stuff," Gardenhire said.

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer (oblique) is unlikely to return to the team right after the All-Star break.

Twins | Joe Mauer to DL

Wed, 02 Jul 2014 08:11:35 -0700

The Minnesota Twins placed 1B Joe Mauer (oblique) on the 15-day disabled list with a right oblique strain. Minnesota recalled 1B/OF Chris Colabello from Triple-A Rochester.

Fantasy Tip: Shame -- he was starting to turn things around, including running off an ongoing 12-game hit streak. Mauer's disappointing season becomes even more depressing. At least you can stash him without having him hurt you in the lineup. This could be a lengthy absence, though. Colabello, meanwhile, regains some juice in deep-mixed leagues and might be worth checking out. Despite his slump before his demotion, he had a scorching start to the season.

Twins | Joe Mauer exits early

Tue, 01 Jul 2014 20:17:40 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer (oblique) left in the fifth inning Tuesday, July 1, after straining his right oblique. OF Chris Parmelee replaced Mauer at first base, and OF Josh Willingham replaced Parmelee in left field.

Fantasy Tip: The severity of the injury is not yet known, but it's a shame that Mauer suffered any sort of injury just as he was finally heating up. He is hitting .362 during his current 12-game hit streak so hopefully he won't miss a lot of time.

Twins | Joe Mauer has theory for his struggles

Tue, 24 Jun 2014 20:46:45 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer believes his early season struggles have a lot to do with the fact that he doesn't track pitches from behind the plate as much as he used to. "He's used to tracking so many pitches from our pitchers throwing to him that you get your eyes going so you can get everything lined up," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "That makes a lot of sense. This is something different for him, and that's coming from a pretty darn good hitter. I thought that was a pretty good statement."

Fantasy Tip: While it is good that Mauer thinks he has identified the problem, it isn't really an easy fix since the Twins want to save the wear and tear on his body by playing him at first base. Still, he is a career .319 hitter so Mauer should adjust eventually, and he could make a decent buy-low candidate while he is batting .261.

Twins | Joe Mauer won't move from No. 3 spot

Wed, 11 Jun 2014 12:21:28 -0700

Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said he won't consider moving 1B Joe Mauer from his No. 3 spot in the lineup despite his recent struggles. Gardenhire is optimistic that Mauer will break out of his slump.

Fantasy Tip: Gardenhire was at least partially right, as Mauer has responded with a couple hits already in the ball game Wednesday afternoon.
