The Kansas City Royals agreed to a two-year extension with manager Ned Yost Tuesday, Oct. 1. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Yost is 741-831 in 10 years as the manager of the Royals and Milwaukee Brewers.

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost is proud of what the team has accomplished this year even though they are no longer in contention for the playoffs. "We have more wins than anybody in the American League since the All-Star break ... we feel like our organization has made great progress," he said. "We got to experience what it was like playing deep into September in a playoff race and it was great experience." The Royals are 85-75 entering play Saturday, Sept. 28, which is their best performance since 1989, when they went 92-70. They have also won 21 of their last 31 games.

When asked by the media whether he could see Kansas City Royals OF Alex Gordon shifting back to third base, his old position, manager Ned Yost indicated that would not happen. "I don't envision that," Yost said. "The thought hasn't ever come into my head that we're going to put Alex back at third base. It's never occurred to me."

Kansas City Royals SP's Felipe Paulino and Danny Duffy (elbow) are doing well in their rehabilitation assignments at Surprise, Ariz. Both underwent Tommy John surgery last season. "They're doing fine. I think both of them threw [Saturday]," manager Ned Yost said. "Duffy threw 20 pitches in a game and Paulino threw like 25 pitches in BP with good results. They're fine." Both are aiming for minor league pitching assignments in the next month or two.

The Kansas City Royals will limit C Salvador Perez's appearances next season, but he is still expected to catch 140 games. However, manager Ned Yost admits that number could go higher if Perez wields a hot bat. "I hope it's not 159 or 160," Yost said. "I hope I can give him a break here and there. I love that kid. I have a hard time not playing him. I love to write his name in the lineup because he's that special."
