Cowboys | No changes to coaching staff

Tue, 12 Nov 2013 09:17:53 -0800

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he won't shake up the coaching staff during the team's bye week in Week 11. Jones said defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin won't be fired and head coach Jason Garrett won't take the play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Bill Callahan. The Cowboys were held to 193 yards of total offense in their Week 10 loss to the New Orleans Saints. The team's defense ranks last in the league with an average of 439.8 yards per game. Jones believes the team needs to play more man coverage on defense. "You need to probably man up more in the secondary than we've been doing, rather than relying on zone," Jones said. "Because if we can't get pressure and we're relying on the traditional zone as you might mentally picture it, then that's a recipe for what happened to us the other night."

"It's a loaded group," Kiper said. "You can also find defensive tackles in rounds two, three and four. If you need nose tackles, if you need three-techniques, you got it all covered in this draft."

Hatcher figures to be an important part of the defense in 2013. "He still doesn't know where I'm going to play yet," Hatcher said of Kiffin. "I don't know if I'm going to be the Warren Sapp in his 4-3 defense or not. He does have high hopes for me. I'm going to be a big part of this defense, so I'm excited about this role I'll have in this upcoming season. I'm going to embrace it and be the best I can be." If Hatcher plays inside he might have to stay at about 295 pounds to deal with the pounding of taking on opposing guards and centers. Hatcher is at 295 pounds now; however, he would like to lose some weight if he plays off the edge.
