Marlins | Marcell Ozuna big part of historic game

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 20:24:18 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Marcell Ozuna enjoyed his first multi-homer game of the season Monday, June 20, clobbering a pair of offerings from Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa into the left-field stands in a 5-3 defeat. Ozuna's solo shots were two of eight hit by both teams, breaking the MLB record (five) for the highest-scoring game in which every run was scored via a solo homer.

Fantasy Tip: Ozuna isn't hitting .411 like he was last month, but Monday's effort puts him well on pace to eclipse the seven homers and 17 RBI he collected in May (five home runs and 16 RBI in June thus far). Due to the fact he doesn't steal any bases, he hasn't been quite a top-10 fantasy outfielder this season, but he's been among the best four-category hitters in baseball all season long.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa shines in return to rotation

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 22:03:52 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa allowed just three hits and a pair of walks in five scoreless frames against the New York Yankees on Tuesday, June 14.

Fantasy Tip: Making his first start since May 24, De La Rosa continued the momentum he'd built in eight strong innings of relief work in with five shutout innings against the Yankees. The bullpen made it interesting later on, but the lefty still collected his third win of the season. Those in NL-only leagues should pick him up while deeper mixed owners can keep an eye on De La Rosa.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa tweaked delivery

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 15:51:53 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa, who is moving back into the starting rotation, recently dropped a hesitation in his delivery while working in relief. He held opponents to one run and three hits in three relief outings with 10 strikeouts and no walks in eight innings. De La Rosa was 1-4 with an 11.41 ERA in six starts. In his last outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates, he also showed increased velocity with his fastball.

Fantasy Tip: Perhaps the move to the bullpen is just what De La Rosa needed to turn his season around. Take a wait-and-see approach, though, if you're desperate for starting pitching in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. He'll face the Yankees at Coors Field Tuesday.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa to start Tuesday

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 07:29:48 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa will start against the New York Yankees Tuesday, June 14. As a result, SP Chad Bettis will have his scheduled start moved back to Wednesday, June 15.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa is 2-4 with an 8.81 ERA in nine appearances (six starts) this season, with 15 walks and 39 strikeouts over 31 2/3 innings. He had pitched better since being demoted to the bullpen, posting a 1.13 ERA in three appearances, but he should continue to be viewed as a risky play in all formats until he can string together several decent starts.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa bumped from rotation

Wed, 25 May 2016 14:36:07 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa will be moved to the bullpen for now, according to manager Walt Weiss. SP Chris Rusin will move into the starting rotation.

Fantasy Tip: It was only a matter of time for De La Rosa, who was sporting a horrendous 11.41 ERA and 2.28 WHIP in six starts for the Rockies this year after getting blasted by the Red Sox in his first start off the DL last night. He shouldn't be owned anywhere. Rusin has a 3.93 ERA in four starts for Colorado this year. He should only be an option for the desperate in NL-only leagues with a career 5.9 strikeouts per nine innings.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa scuffles in return

Tue, 24 May 2016 21:06:57 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) started his first game in almost a month after being activated from the disabled list and struggled Tuesday, May 24, against the Boston Red Sox. He lasted only 3 1/3 innings, surrendering seven runs on nine hits and three walks, while striking out only one.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa has been the definition of abysmal in 2016, as he's made it beyond the fourth inning only once this season in six starts. At this point, he should only be taking up a roster spot in deep NL-only leagues in case he's able to get into a rhythm but right now, the thought of starting him while he's struggling like this just seems laughable.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa to start Tuesday

Sat, 21 May 2016 12:14:45 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) will be activated from the disabled list Tuesday, May 24, and he will start that evening's game against the Boston Red Sox. He will be followed in the rotation by SP Jon Gray Wednesday, May 25, and SP Eddie Butler Thursday, May 26.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa went 1-3 with a 10.18 ERA in five starts before landing on the disabled list and posted a 4.30 ERA in three rehab outings for Class AAA Albuquerque. Although he is striking out batters at a much higher rate than normal, that's the only good thing that can be said about his performance this year. He should be avoided outside of deep NL-only fantasy leagues.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa makes rehab start

Mon, 09 May 2016 16:10:45 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) allowed two runs and three hits at Class AAA in four innings of his rehab start Monday, May 9. He threw 43 of his 74 pitches for strikes and will make one more rehab start.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa had 28 strikeouts in just 20 1/3 innings over five starts before being injured, but that's quickly where his value ends for owners in deeper leagues. A 10.18 ERA, 5.3 BB/9 and 2.06 WHIP are incredibly ugly, and things might not get much better when pitching half his games at Coors Field.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa nearing rehab stint

Thu, 05 May 2016 23:21:46 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) will throw a bullpen session in the couple of days, and if all goes well, he'll begin a rehab assignment Monday, May 9.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa is a fringe NL-only starter to have at this stage.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa placed on DL

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 15:41:03 -0700

Updating a previous report, Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) was officially placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin Wednesday, April 27. In a corresponding move, SP Eddie Butler was recalled from Class AAA Albuquerque.

Fantasy Tip: Even in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, De La Rosa isn't a must-stash hurler. He has a 4.48 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP and a 7.7 K/9 through his past 63 starts dating back to the beginning of 2014 and pitches his home games at hitter-friendly Coors Field, after all. Take a wait-and-see approach with Butler, as the 25-year-old righty has a 5.90 ERA through the first 19 starts of his career.
