Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa to start Tuesday

Sat, 21 May 2016 12:14:45 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) will be activated from the disabled list Tuesday, May 24, and he will start that evening's game against the Boston Red Sox. He will be followed in the rotation by SP Jon Gray Wednesday, May 25, and SP Eddie Butler Thursday, May 26.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa went 1-3 with a 10.18 ERA in five starts before landing on the disabled list and posted a 4.30 ERA in three rehab outings for Class AAA Albuquerque. Although he is striking out batters at a much higher rate than normal, that's the only good thing that can be said about his performance this year. He should be avoided outside of deep NL-only fantasy leagues.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa makes rehab start

Mon, 09 May 2016 16:10:45 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) allowed two runs and three hits at Class AAA in four innings of his rehab start Monday, May 9. He threw 43 of his 74 pitches for strikes and will make one more rehab start.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa had 28 strikeouts in just 20 1/3 innings over five starts before being injured, but that's quickly where his value ends for owners in deeper leagues. A 10.18 ERA, 5.3 BB/9 and 2.06 WHIP are incredibly ugly, and things might not get much better when pitching half his games at Coors Field.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa nearing rehab stint

Thu, 05 May 2016 23:21:46 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) will throw a bullpen session in the couple of days, and if all goes well, he'll begin a rehab assignment Monday, May 9.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa is a fringe NL-only starter to have at this stage.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa placed on DL

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 15:41:03 -0700

Updating a previous report, Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) was officially placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin Wednesday, April 27. In a corresponding move, SP Eddie Butler was recalled from Class AAA Albuquerque.

Fantasy Tip: Even in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, De La Rosa isn't a must-stash hurler. He has a 4.48 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP and a 7.7 K/9 through his past 63 starts dating back to the beginning of 2014 and pitches his home games at hitter-friendly Coors Field, after all. Take a wait-and-see approach with Butler, as the 25-year-old righty has a 5.90 ERA through the first 19 starts of his career.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa headed to DL

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 11:32:56 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) is likely headed to the 15-day disabled list with a left groin strain. He was removed early in his outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday, April 26. Through five starts he's 1-3 with a 10.18 ERA and has allowed three home runs in two games at Coors Field.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa should be left to waiver wires in all leagues outside of maybe the deepest NL-only leagues. Eddie Butler is coming up to take his spot in the rotation, but there's not much to like about him, either. Consider Butler more of a flier in NL-only affairs.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa leaves start

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 21:40:01 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) left his start Tuesday, April 26, against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to an apparent groin injury. "He pulled his groin right there going to first base, so we got him out of there," manager Walt Weiss said.

Fantasy Tip: JDLR has been awful this season, and now he is hurt. He might very well have been hurt before this the way he has been pitching. It's uncertain if he'll miss any time, but fantasy owners should stay away until he rights the ship. He has a 10.18 ERA through five outings.

Reds | Five steals in an inning for Reds

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 23:35:05 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce had two of the five steals by the Reds in one inning Tuesday, April 19. Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa was struggling with fastball command, and he started throwing changeups and ignoring runners. The Reds haven't stolen that many bases in an inning since the 1920's.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce has simmered a bit, but he still has a .278-3-13 line. He's going to have a lower average, but the power production should offset it. He's a solid upper-middle outfielder.

Rockies | COL not concerned about Jorge De La Rosa

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 17:58:10 -0700

The Colorado Rockies said they are not concerned about SP Jorge De La Rosa, even though he is 0-1 with a 12.46 ERA through his first two outings of the regular season. He has allowed four home runs and issued seven walks while experiencing a drop in velocity and hasn't made it out of the fifth inning in either start. De La Rosa is scheduled to make his third start of the year versus the San Francisco Giants Thursday, April 14.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa is a notoriously slow starter and pitching coach Steve Foster believes that the dip in velocity can be attributed to pitching in colder weather at the beginning of the season. Daily fantasy players should avoid using him until he strings together several decent outings, while owners outside of NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues may want to consider other options.

Rockies | Colorado alters rotation schedule

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 14:23:33 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa will pitch against the San Francisco Giants Thursday, April 14, and SP Christian Bergman will start against the Chicago Cubs Sunday, April 17.

Fantasy Tip: Neither arms are great starts against two of the best teams in the National League. De La Rosa is a fringe fantasy option in the majority of leagues and has allowed 12 earned runs through 8 2/3 innings over his first two starts of the season. Bergman checks out as a desperation start against Chicago given his 5.43 career ERA through 126 innings.

Rockies | COL to employ four-man rotation

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 18:57:40 -0700

The Colorado Rockies will use a four-man rotation to start the season, according to manager Walt Weiss. SPs Jorge De La Rosa, Chad Bettis, Tyler Chatwood and Jordan Lyles will occupy the rotation spots. The club isn't expected to need a fifth starter until sometime between April 14, in a game versus the San Francisco Giants, and April 16, in a game versus the Chicago Cubs. At that point, SP Jon Gray (abdomen) could be ready to return from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Of the four healthy starters, De La Rosa has the most fantasy value but should be viewed as nothing more than a late-round option for mixed leagues. Gray should remain stashed in dynasty and keeper formats, as well as NL-only leagues.
