Cubs | Dan Haren will start next week

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 15:44:33 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Dan Haren will make his first start with the club next week against the Pittsburgh Pirates, with it most likely being Wednesday, Aug. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Haren ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) posted a 3.42 ERA over 129 innings with a 6.1 K/9 for Miami this season. So while his lack of strikeouts limit his upside, Haren has kept hitters in check with veteran savvy and stands as a serviceable No. 2 starter for FantasyScore players in favorable matchups. The Pirates don't exactly qualify, though.

Marlins | Miami adds prospects for Dan Haren

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 11:04:28 -0700

The Miami Marlins acquired SS Elliot Soto and SP Ivan Pineyro from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for Dan Haren Friday, July 31.

Fantasy Tip: Soto and Pineyro have both been with Class AA Tennessee this season, and neither project to have a fantasy impact anytime soon. Soto has modest contact skills but just three home runs over 1887 plate appearances in the minor leagues. Pineyro has a 3.69 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP and a 7.7 K/9 over 107 1/3 innings. There is now another opening in the Marlins rotation, too, and keep an eye out for Justin Nicolino receiving a look in the role. He is worth a speculative flier in NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues, especially if you're desperate for pitching.

Cubs | Dan Haren traded to Cubs

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 10:43:26 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Dan Haren was traded to the Chicago Cubs Friday, July 31, in exchange for two minor league players.

Fantasy Tip: Haren ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) should slide into Chicago's rotation as the No. 5 starter after this move. The veteran righty isn't striking out many batters (6.1 K/9), but he was serviceable for the Fish with a 3.42 ERA in 21 starts (129 innings), and he can be a dependable matchup play on FantasyScore at a cheap price, especially now that he'll have a better offense backing him.

Blue Jays | Toronto looking for starting pitching

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 10:56:45 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yovani Gallardo, Cincinnati Reds SP Mike Leake, San Diego Padres SPs Andrew Cashner and Tyson Ross, Milwaukee Brewers SP Mike Fiers, Miami Marlins SP Dan Haren and Detroit Tigers SP David Price are all on the radar of the Toronto Blue Jays as the trade deadline approaches.

Fantasy Tip: All of these names would be significant upgrades to the Blue Jays' current staff. However, for some, a move to hitter-friendly Toronto would be a downgrade to their fantasy value.

Blue Jays | TOR interested in Dan Haren

Fri, 24 Jul 2015 18:42:46 -0700

The Toronto Blue Jays have expressed interest in Miami Marlins SP Dan Haren.

Fantasy Tip: Haren ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) is 7-5 with a 3.46 ERA through 19 starts this season and is starting against the San Diego Padres Friday, July 24. A move to the hitter-friendly American League East would likely decrease his fantasy value but FantasyScore owners can continue using him with confidence in most matchups for the time being.

Marlins | Teams asking about Dan Haren

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 12:18:47 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Dan Haren has been asked about by other teams in trade talks, according to manager Dan Jennings. Jennings noted he expects Haren will be heavily scouted Tuesday, July 21.

Fantasy Tip: Haren ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) is having a nice season with seven wins, 3.46 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. However, his 6.2 K/9 isn't a huge help for fantasy purposes, and his 4.31 FIP is the highest it has been since his rookie year in 2003. Still, Haren is an end-of-the-rotation arm for your virtual team, and he can be started with confidence in the majority of matchups.

Marlins | Jose Fernandez starting Friday

Wed, 15 Jul 2015 16:11:50 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez will start Friday, July 17, against the Philadelphia Phillies. SP Tom Koehler will start Saturday and SP Dan Haren will start Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Fernandez ($7,900, 15.8% of cap) has picked up two straight wins since his return from Tommy John surgery, but he was most impressive in his last outing when he went seven scoreless innings while striking out nine Cincinnati Reds. The matchup is perfect for Fernandez, and he's likely to be one of the most owned pitchers.

Marlins | Four players on block

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 01:56:17 -0700

The Miami Marlins are shopping four players prior to the July 31 trading deadline, including SP Dan Haren, SP Mat Latos, SP Brad Hand and 1B Jeff Baker.

Fantasy Tip: Haren ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) and Latos ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) could help teams in need of pitching help at the deadline, while Hand and Baker will carry less fantasy value. Keep an eye on where they all land.

Marlins | Dan Haren looks to shoot down Jays

Mon, 08 Jun 2015 20:05:01 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Dan Haren is the probable pitcher for Tuesday, June 9, against the Toronto Blue Jays. Haren is 8-3 with a 4.99 ERA in 13 career appearances (12 starts) against Toronto.

Fantasy Tip: Haren ($6,200; or 12.4% of cap) has won back-to-back outings and is worth using in FantasyScore based upon his solid career ledger against the Jays.

Marlins | Dan Haren has solid outing

Mon, 18 May 2015 20:36:04 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Dan Haren allowed two runs on five hits in eight innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks Monday, May 18. He struck out five batters during the game and did not walk a batter.

Fantasy Tip: Haren ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) has had a solid start to the season and has allowed two runs or fewer in six of his eight starts. Haren is scheduled to face the Baltimore Orioles in his next start and may not be a great option for owners on FantasyScore.
