Free-agent RP Rafael Betancourt (Rockies) and SS Omar Quintanilla (Mets) agreed to terms on minor league deals with the Colorado Rockies Friday, Jan. 30. Betancourt didn't pitch in the majors last year while working his way back to health.

Fantasy Tip: The Rockies likely signed Betancourt as insurance for their bullpen. He could resurface in the bigs later this summer if he's healthy, but he's unlikely to be in the picture in the late innings unless there's an injury.

Colorado Rockies RP Rafael Betancourt (elbow) threw long-toss in Miami Monday, March 31, and it was the first time he threw from as far as 150 feet. His plan is to go to extended spring training at the end of April, and play until June. He would then join Class A Grand Junction with the intention of being ready to pitch for the big club by season's end.

Free-agent RP Rafael Betancourt (Rockies) will visit Dr. James Andrews next week and should be cleared to resume throwing shortly thereafter. Betancourt said the rehab on his surgically-repaired elbow is going well and he plans to visit the Colorado Rockies at spring training camp for two weeks in March. He has not given up on pitching during the 2014 season and said that if he is able to play, he only wants to pitch for the Rockies. The Los Angeles Dodgers had expressed interest in Betancourt but he said he couldn't see himself pitching anywhere else.
