Braves | Carlos Quentin to be DFA'd?

Sun, 05 Apr 2015 16:47:51 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Carlos Quentin is expected to be designated for assignment after being acquired from the San Diego Padres Sunday, April 5. Quentin is due to earn $8.0 million in 2015 and $10.0 million in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Quentin ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) was included in the trade that sent RP Craig Kimbrel and OF Melvin Upton Jr. to the San Diego Padres solely to help balance out the contracts. Quentin hasn't exceeded 400 plate appearances in a season since joining the Padres in 2012. Quentin could resurface as a designated hitter for an American League team and can't be forgotten about as he is just 32 years old.

Braves | ATL acquires Carlos Quentin, Cameron Maybin

Sun, 05 Apr 2015 15:34:34 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Carlos Quentin and OF Cameron Maybin were traded to the Atlanta Braves in a deal that includes SP Matt Wisler. The Padres received OF Melvin Upton Jr. and RP Craig Kimbrel back in return.

Fantasy Tip: Kimbrel, the top closer in baseball, didn't figure into the Braves' plans so he is headed to San Diego, where he will immediately fit into the roster and greatly improve the Padres bullpen. Quentin ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) and Maybin ($2,000, 4% of cap) will soak up some at-bats in Atlanta, but that's about it. Jonny Gomes is in left and Eric Young Jr. is in center for the time being, so Quentin and Maybin may see some time in the mix.

Sun, 05 Apr 2015 15:21:19 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Craig Kimbrel was traded to the San Diego Padres in a deal that also included OF Melvin Upton Jr. The Padres sent OF Carlos Quentin, OF Cameron Maybin, SP Matt Wisler and the 41st draft pick overall to the Braves.

Fantasy Tip: Kimbrel, one of the top fantasy closers regardless of uniform, should receive more save chances as he joins what should be a more competitive club than Atlanta. Upton (foot) is currently out and won't rejoin the FantasyScore pool for at least a month.

Padres | Carlos Quentin back on block

Sun, 05 Apr 2015 00:10:48 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Carlos Quentin is rumored to be back on the trading block, according to a talent evaluator looking at the team.

Fantasy Tip: Quentin ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) was tried at first base in spring camp and the experiment didn't go so well. The rumor is the Padres are willing to eat "a chunk of money" to move Quentin, so his fantasy value has taken a big hit for now.

Padres | Carlos Quentin playing first base

Sun, 22 Mar 2015 11:49:52 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Carlos Quentin played six innings at first base during a Cactus League game against the Arizona Diamondbacks Saturday, March 21. It was his third appearance at the position in a game this spring. Quentin has been practicing at first for the last few weeks in an attempt to increase his versatility.

Fantasy Tip: With Justin Upton, Matt Kemp and Wil Myers penciled in as San Diego's starting outfielders, it will be difficult for Quentin to find playing time this season, barring an injury or trade. He should not be on your draft radar.
