Giants | Eli Manning locked in

Sun, 18 Mar 2018 18:47:24 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning earned a $5 million roster bonus Sunday, March 18, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants had already publicly committed to Manning, so this was no surprise. He still has some solid weapons to throw to and should be a serviceable backup option for fantasy owners next year.

Giants | HC says Eli Manning has 'years' left

Wed, 28 Feb 2018 22:39:32 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning still has "years" left as a starting quarterback in the NFL, according to head coach Pat Shurmur.

Fantasy Tip: This sentiment would seem to indicate the Giants are indeed drafting running back Saquon Barkley with the No. 2 overall draft pick. It also points to New York sticking with Manning as their signal-caller. Despite seeing a drop-off in his stats, the 14-year veteran had a legitimate excuse, dealing with significant injuries around him to key players, not to mention a bad offensive line. He can serve as an acceptable backup in one-quarterback formats.

Giants | Eli Manning confident he will start in 2018

Sat, 03 Feb 2018 09:03:54 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning has reportedly been assured from new head coach Pat Shurmur that he will be the starting quarterback in 2018.

Fantasy Tip: Given the likelihood the Giants take a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick in April's draft, about the only assurance Manning should feel is beginning the season as a starter. He is very much nearing the end, and the organization would be foolish to hold back a blue-chip rookie if he is ready to start. Manning should very much be considered a risky QB2 in 2018.

Giants | Eli Manning fine with drafting of QB

Fri, 02 Feb 2018 11:19:12 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said he would not have a problem with the Giants if they decide to select a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: Manning should be the starting quarterback for another year or two, but the Giants likely will take a quarterback at some point during the draft. Owners should consider Manning a No. 2 fantasy quarterback next season.

Giants | Eli Manning sticking around?

Fri, 26 Jan 2018 08:40:19 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning "has years left," according to head coach Pat Shurmur, who says he's excited to work with him.

Fantasy Tip: Manning's destination in 2018 is to be determined, but anywhere he goes, he's limited to QB2 status in fantasy.

Giants | GM wants Eli Manning to return

Sun, 21 Jan 2018 10:23:24 -0800

New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman reaffirmed his desire for QB Eli Manning to return to the team next season during a meeting with him earlier this month, according to sources. Gettleman also told Manning that the team will continue to scout the quarterbacks in the 2018 NFL Draft and compare them to QB Davis Webb.

Fantasy Tip: It appears like Manning will be the Giants' starting quarterback for at least one more season. He finished this season with 3,468 yards and 19 touchdowns but played most of the season without his top two receivers. He has the chance to be a solid No. 2 fantasy quarterback in 2018.

Sun, 31 Dec 2017 13:58:30 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning completed just 10-of-28 pass attempts for 132 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Week 17 game against the Washington Redskins. RB Orleans Darkwa rolled up a career-high 154 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, while RB Wayne Gallman added 89 yards on 15 receptions. TE Rhett Ellison posted five grabs for 63 yards, while WR Hunter Sharp stepped in with three catches, 29 yards and a touchdown to lead the wide receivers. WR Travis Rudolph also had 29 yards on his lone reception.

Giants | Eli Manning expected back

Fri, 29 Dec 2017 17:42:49 -0800

New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman said he is moving forward as if QB Eli Manning will be the starting quarterback next season but that does not rule out the possibility of the Giants selecting a quarterback in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: Manning has posted some decent numbers this season even though he lost both of his starting receivers to season-ending injuries. Owners should monitor the situation to see if Manning does stay with the Giants and if they add any competition for him this offseason. He should be considered a No. 2 fantasy quarterback in 2018.

Giants | Eli Manning to start finale

Mon, 25 Dec 2017 07:34:04 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning will start the Week 17 season finale, according to interim coach Steve Spagnuolo.

Fantasy Tip: Manning threw for 263 yards, but he didn't reach the end zone and threw two balls to the other team. He's not an option in fantasy against the Washington Redskins.

Giants | Eli Manning tosses two picks

Sun, 24 Dec 2017 20:52:11 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning completed 27 of his 45 pass attempts for 263 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in Week 16 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants were shut out in this one, but it isn't all Eli's fault. The offensive line is in shambles, he lost Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall early in the season and Evan Engram was hurt in this one, too. It has been a lost season in Gotham.

Giants | Davis Webb gets first-team reps

Wed, 20 Dec 2017 22:10:49 -0800

New York Giants QB Davis Webb received first-team reps for the first time this season Wednesday, Dec. 20, getting six of the eight snaps usually reserved for the starting quarterback (QB Eli Manning took the other two). Despite that, Webb is still expected to be inactive in Week 16.

Giants | Eli Manning turns back the clock

Sun, 17 Dec 2017 19:15:31 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning completed 37 of his 57 passes for 434 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in a 34-29 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15.

Fantasy Tip: Manning had three touchdowns in the previous four games combined, so don't expect him to have a repeat performance against Arizona in Week 16.

Giants | Eli Manning will keep starting

Mon, 11 Dec 2017 12:33:39 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning will remain the starting quarterback at least for one more week, according to interim head coach Steve Spagnuolo.

Fantasy Tip: Manning could definitely finish out the year as the starter unless Spags and the coaching staff want to throw Davis Webb to the wolves before the season concludes. Manning has not been a reliable quarterback all year and certainly can't be trusted in the fantasy playoffs.

Giants | Eli Manning back with 228 yards

Sun, 10 Dec 2017 17:35:25 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning completed 31 of his 46 pass attempts for 228 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in the Week 14 loss against the Dallas Cowboys.

Fantasy Tip: Manning had his consecutive starts streak snapped last week when Geno Smith was used in Ben McAdoo's last game as head coach. Manning was back, but so was the mediocrity. He is best used as a QB2 in most fantasy leagues at this point.

Giants | Eli Manning throws two interceptions

Sun, 10 Dec 2017 13:46:46 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning went 31-for-46 for 228 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 14.

Fantasy Tip: Manning regained his starting job but had a problem with interceptions during the game. He will be facing the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 14 and should be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Giants | Eli Manning expected to remain starter

Sun, 10 Dec 2017 07:19:23 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning is expected to be the team's starting quarterback for the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Manning regains his starting job this week but has been held to under 200 yards in three of his last six games. He will have some weapons to work with in the passing game but probably should be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Giants | Eli Manning named Week 14 starter

Mon, 04 Dec 2017 10:05:36 -0800

Updating an earlier report, New York Giants Eli Manning has been reinstalled as the starting quarterback for Week 14 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Fantasy Tip: This was an expected move after the team fired head coach Ben McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese as the Giants' ownership attempts to save face with their longtime quarterback and their fan base. However, Manning wasn't playing that well leading up to his one-game benching anyway and this move doesn't figure to clear up his future in New York either. Consider him a low-upside QB2 the rest of the way.

Giants | Eli Manning could resume starting

Mon, 04 Dec 2017 08:58:15 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning could return as starter in Week 14 after head coach Ben McAdoo was fired Monday, Dec. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Manning would have a decent matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, but there's not enough upside to warrant the start in fantasy.

Giants | Geno Smith expected to play entire game

Sun, 03 Dec 2017 07:17:13 -0800

New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo said he will not consider benching QB Geno Smith during the team's Week 13 game. QB Eli Manning would only enter the game if Smith suffered an injury.

Fantasy Tip: Smith has not received much playing time over the last few years, so owners should not expect a big game from him. He should be avoided in all leagues and will not have much value moving forward.

Giants | Geno Smith named starting quarterback

Tue, 28 Nov 2017 12:34:13 -0800

New York Giants QB Geno Smith will start in place of QB Eli Manning in Week 13. It is the first time in 13 years that Manning will not be starting a game for the Giants. Head coach Ben McAdoo said the Giants will take a look at both Smith and QB Davis Webb.

Fantasy Tip: This was seemingly inevitable given the Giants' record, injuries and the fact that Manning has not been playing well. New York is ready for next season and they want to evaluate their quarterback situation heading into the offseason. No quarterback on New York's roster is worth starting right now under the circumstances.

Giants | Embarrassing outing for Eli Manning

Thu, 23 Nov 2017 21:10:02 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning completed 13 of his 27 passes for 113 yards and an interception in a 20-10 loss to the Washington Redskins Thursday, Nov. 23.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants have been sputtering on offense all year, but this was ugly. Even against friendly matchups on paper, Manning can't be trusted.

Giants | Eli Manning finishes with 205 yards

Sun, 19 Nov 2017 14:36:21 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning went 19-for-35 for 205 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 11.

Fantasy Tip: Manning has been playing well recently with six touchdowns and one interception in the last five games. He will be playing the Washington Redskins on Thanksgiving and probably should be considered a No. 2 quarterback in most leagues.

Giants | Eli Manning tosses pair of TDs

Sun, 12 Nov 2017 19:41:05 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning completed 28 of his 37 pass attempts for 273 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 10 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: Manning and the G-Men slipped to 1-8 while providing the 49ers with their first win of the season. The offense wasn't horrible, and Manning has developed quite the rapport with Evan Engram and Sterling Shepard, who is back to 100 percent after missing time. Manning lost two offensive linemen in the game but still managed to put up decent totals.

Giants | Eli Manning not being benched

Sun, 12 Nov 2017 07:28:19 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning will continue to be the starting quarterback for the Giants for the foreseeable future, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Manning lost his top two receivers earlier in the season, which has hurt his fantasy value. He has thrown for 1,820 yards, 12 touchdowns and six interceptions in eight games this season. He should be considered a low-end No. 2 fantasy quarterback in leagues at this point.

Giants | Eli Manning may be benched eventually

Mon, 06 Nov 2017 14:52:34 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning is the Giants' starting quarterback, for now, but head coach Ben McAdoo didn't rule out the possibility of giving QB Geno Smith or QB Davis Webb a chance at some point this season. Smith came in for a couple snaps in New York's Week 9 blowout loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

Fantasy Tip: At the rate the Giants are going it would make sense for Smith or Webb to be given some meaningful playing time later this year. The 36-year-old Manning doesn't have many years left in the NFL, so ostensibly the Giants would want to conserve the starting thrower. Manning will remain in QB2 territory going forward.

Giants | Eli Manning has solid outing

Sun, 05 Nov 2017 13:50:01 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning went 20-for-36 for 220 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Manning is playing without his top two receivers, so stats are lower than they have been in previous years. He will be facing the San Francisco 49ers in Week 10 and could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback for desperate owners in deeper leagues.

Giants | Could Davis Webb play this season?

Wed, 25 Oct 2017 14:01:17 -0700

New York Giants QB Davis Webb won't be taking over for QB Eli Manning anytime soon, but it could come to that "at some point" this year, according to general manager Jerry Reese. "It's not right now because we're going to fight with everything we have with these nine games left and hopefully we can turn our season around," Reese said. Reese added that, including Manning, everyone on the team needs to play better.

Fantasy Tip: Manning and the Giants actually have a decent schedule ahead of them in the second half of the season, at least from a fantasy perspective. Without Odell Beckham and Brandon Marshall, though, it's difficult to see Manning being a weekly QB1 this season.

Giants | Eli Manning passes for 225 yards

Sun, 08 Oct 2017 17:04:29 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning completed 21 of his 36 pass attempts for 225 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Week 5 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Fantasy Tip: Manning was sacked five times, and he wasn't helped out by the fact he lost four receivers to injury during this game, including Odell Beckham Jr. to a serious injury late. He should be reserved in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 6 in Denver, as it would be a tough matchup for Eli even with a full cadre of receivers.

Giants | Eli Manning throws for 366 yards

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 16:30:36 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning completed 35 of his 47 pass attempts for 366 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the Week 3 game at Philadelphia.

Fantasy Tip: Manning had his best game of the season, by far, despite the fact that he continues to get no help in the run game. He'll look to keep up the good results in Week 4 at Tampa Bay against a pass defense which was torched by Minnesota's Case Keenum on Sunday.

Giants | Eli Manning punished on MNF

Mon, 18 Sep 2017 21:14:24 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning completed 22 of his 32 pass attempts for 239 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions on Monday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Manning put up pretty decent stats considering he was flattened on most plays due to a lack of protection. The Lions did get to him for five sacks and he didn't have much time to get the ball down the field, and he wasn't helped out by his run game, either. If he keeps getting pounded by opposing defenses it's hard to see the iron man Manning making it through the entire 16-game schedule.

Giants | Eli Manning not concerned

Thu, 14 Sep 2017 19:06:50 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said he is not worried about how the offense performed in Week 1. "First game," Manning said. "Guys were playing fast, got some good guys out there, some new bodies, so we'll bounce back. We'll be fine."

Fantasy Tip: Manning looked lost without Odell Beckham Jr. on the field in Week 1, and he showed no chemistry with Brandon Marshall. Even if Beckham returns, starting Manning in Week 2 is a risky proposition.

Giants | Eli Manning doesn't do much

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 22:06:36 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning completed 29 of his 38 passes for 220 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Week 1 loss at Dallas.

Fantasy Tip: Manning looked a bit lost at times with Odell Beckham Jr. inactive. He had no rapport with newcomer Brandon Marshall, hooking up for just one catch in the dying moments of the fourth quarter. His biggest contributions came on dinks and dunks to Shane Vereen for short yardage, high-percentage throws. He'll look for better results in Week 2 against the visiting Lions.

Giants | Eli Manning sharp in preseason action

Mon, 21 Aug 2017 21:59:18 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning completed 10-of-14 passes for 80 yards in the team's second preseason game Monday, August 21, opposite the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Tip: Manning looked good in this preseason edition of Monday Night Football, but there are much bigger concerns after his top two wide-outs departed the contest with injuries. As long as everyone around him is healthy, Manning can settle in as a low-end QB1.

Giants | Eli Manning to play in preseason games

Thu, 17 Aug 2017 18:32:17 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning will play in the second and third preseason games, according to head coach Ben McAdoo.

Fantasy Tip: Manning sat out the first preseason game but should play at least a quarter in the second game and probably the first half in the third game. He will have a solid group of receivers to work with this season and can be considered a high-end No. 2 fantasy quarterbacks.

Giants | Eli Manning, Odell Beckham likely to sit

Wed, 09 Aug 2017 10:13:42 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning and WR Odell Beckham Jr. are unlikely to suit up for the team's exhibition opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday, Aug. 11.

Fantasy Tip: It's not a certainty, but head coach Ben McAdoo said he will treat the opener like he did last year's exhibition lid-lifter, which means neither one of the Giants' key offensive pieces will see action. Expect to see both players in preseason Week 2 versus the Cleveland Browns on Aug. 21.

Giants | Davis Webb stealing reps

Sun, 25 Jun 2017 20:27:18 -0700

New York Giants QB Davis Webb made a habit of lining up behind QB Eli Manning during OTAs when Manning ran plays with the first-team offense. "I've always done that since I was in seventh grade, watching the varsity quarterback at my dad's high school," Webb said at minicamp. "Just trying to steal reps as much as I can."

Giants | Does Eli Manning have plenty of gas in tank?

Thu, 22 Jun 2017 10:48:23 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning still has many years to play in the NFL, in the opinion of owner John Mara.

Fantasy Tip: At 36 years old, Manning has posted three straight seasons of at least 4,000 yards and 25 touchdowns. Longevity seems to be in the Manning gene pool -- brother Peyton played for 18 seasons and father Archie played for 16 seasons. As for Eli's fantasy value, he's a high-end QB2 with the ability to perform as a QB1 depending on the matchup.

Giants | Odell Beckham Jr. skips workout

Sun, 09 Apr 2017 18:12:44 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. did not work out with the other skill position players during a two-day workout hosted by QB Eli Manning last week, and Beckham said he didn't attend because of upcoming oral surgery.

Fantasy Tip: It would have looked better for Beckham to attend with his teammates, but that doesn't change the fact that he is worthy of a first-round pick and should be one of the first receivers off the board.

Giants | Eli Manning pumped for Brandon Marshall

Fri, 07 Apr 2017 18:45:14 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said WR Brandon Marshall reminds him of former WR Plaxico Burress. "I was excited when we made that acquisition," Manning said. "He's obviously a big target and smart, asks a lot of questions, he's going to pick up the offense quickly."

Fantasy Tip: The move to the pass-heavy offense should revive Marshall's fantasy value. He should be able to deliver WR2 production in 2017.

Giants | Eli Manning called out for 2016 struggles

Wed, 01 Mar 2017 18:44:55 -0800

New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo suggested QB Eli Manning deserved his share of the blame for the offense going from a top-10 unit in 2014 and 2015 to one which ranked 25th in 2016. The Giants also committed 27 turnovers, including 20 by Manning (16 interceptions and four fumbles). "I think Eli needs to do a better job of playing with fast feet, and I think he needs to sit on that back foot in the pocket. We're seeing a lot of man coverage, so the receivers it's going to take a little time for them to get open, so everything may not be rhythmical," McAdoo said.

Fantasy Tip: It's very rare for a coach, especially one going into his second year, to make such public comments about a quarterback who has won two Super Bowls, but he isn't wrong. Manning was inaccurate for large parts of the season and appeared to regress in multiple areas despite possessing one elite receiver in Odell Beckham Jr. and a rookie in Sterling Shepard who consistently won in the slot. Manning should be consider a middling QB2 moving forward.

Giants | Eli Manning nearing the end?

Tue, 21 Feb 2017 12:58:03 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning has two to three quality years left in the eyes of the Giants, according to Bob Glauber of Newsday. Glauber added that New York has already started to point out a decline in Manning's play. Manning is signed through 2019 with salaries of $13 million, $10.5 million and $11.5 million, respectively, over the next three years. His contract also includes a no-trade clause and $5 million roster bonuses due on the third day of the 2018 and 2019 league years.

Fantasy Tip: Manning is still producing at a high level. He has thrown for at least 4,000 yards and 25 touchdowns in each of the past three seasons. Nevertheless, age will eventually get the best of him, as it did with his brother. Manning deserves to be drafted in QB2 territory going forward.

Giants | Search begins for Eli Manning's successor

Tue, 10 Jan 2017 09:08:12 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning finished the 2016 season with 4,027 yards and 26 touchdowns versus 16 interceptions, but he just turned 36 this month, prompting the Giants to begin thinking about who will succeed him in a few years. "We always think about every position. But Eli is 36, and we have started to think about who (will be) the next quarterback, and who is in line. So we will look into that as we move into the offseason. Thirty-six, I don't think that is ancient for a quarterback. I think he is probably on the back nine, but I don't think that is ancient for a quarterback, and he is taking care of himself really well, and I thought he finished the season strong," general manager Jerry Reese said.

Fantasy Tip: While it is true that Manning finished strong, there is no question he took a step back in 2016. Most of the likely incoming crop of top quarterbacks - a group that includes Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer, Clemson’s Deshaun Watson and Washington State’s Luke Falk - could all be available to the Giants when they go on the clock with their first-round pick in a few months. Manning figures to be a midrange QB2 in fantasy next year.

New York Giants QB Eli Manning completed 23 of his 44 pass attempts for 299 yards, one touchdown and an interception in a 38-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Jan. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Manning's receivers let him down with a few crucial drops, and the Giants couldn't keep pace with Aaron Rodgers and company. Manning is a midrange QB2 heading into 2017.

Giants | Eli Manning will play entire game

Wed, 28 Dec 2016 11:32:43 -0800

New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo said QB Eli Manning will play in the entire game in Week 17 even though the Giants are locked into the No. 5 seed in the playoffs.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants plan on playing Manning the entire game but things can change during the game, which makes Manning a risky option. Owners could consider Manning as a low-end No. 1 quarterback this week if they do not have a better option to use.

New York Giants QB Eli Manning completed 38 of his 63 passes for 356 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in a 24-19 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday, Dec. 22, setting a franchise record for pass attempts.

Fantasy Tip: Manning snapped a six-game streak of finishing with under 250 passing yards, but the three turnovers marred his final line. He is best used as a QB2 against Washington in Week 17.

New York Giants QB Eli Manning was 20-for-28 for 201 yards and two touchdowns in a 17-6 win over the Detroit Lions Sunday, Dec. 18.

Giants | Eli Manning seeking completions milestone

New York Giants QB Eli Manning needs three more completions to reach 4,000 completed passes for his career. He would become the seventh quarterback in NFL history to reach this benchmark.

Fantasy Tip: Manning is having another fine year in his 13th season with the Giants, completing 302 of 480 passes (62.9 percent) for 3,290 yards and 23 touchdowns compared to just 13 interceptions. He'll be a low-end QB1 this weekend versus the Lions.

Giants | Eli Manning apologized to Sterling Shepard

Tue, 29 Nov 2016 14:35:39 -0800

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said he apologized to WR Sterling Shepard for not getting him the ball in the team's Week 12 game Sunday, Nov. 27, against the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Tip: That won't do Shepard's fantasy owners any good, as the rookie's unexpected zero-reception, zero-target outing this past weekend may have done some serious damage to teams chasing playoff berths in the penultimate week of most leagues. For those owners still alive and with Shepard on the roster, this is definitely encouraging, as Manning at least recognized that he didn't throw it once to the 23-year-old, and will be looking to atone for that in Week 13. Considering he would typically draw at least seven targets a game, Shepard is worth leaving in starting lineups.
