Giants | Former OC defends Eli Manning

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 20:28:16 -0700

Former New York Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride said in a radio interview this week that it is "ludicrous" to say QB Eli Manning is declining. "There's been no deterioration of his arm strength, there's been no lack of preparation and effort," Gilbride said. "I think he's going to be fine as soon as they solidify the offensive line. They certainly made a move to do that by bringing in three interior offensive linemen and as soon as they get somebody that's going to be productive for them as an outside receiver. WR Victor Cruz is terrific, but they need somebody that when they go to match up, bump and run (and) go win for them."

Giants | More on Eli Manning's surgery

Thu, 10 Apr 2014 12:33:29 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning (ankle) said he should be able to run again in six weeks after undergoing a "debridement" of his left ankle Thursday, April 10. "I went through the recovery and rehab after suffering the sprain," Manning said. "I was still experiencing some discomfort as I began my normal offseason preparation, and after consultation, we felt the right thing was to have Dr. Anderson clean out the ankle." Manning's timetable should have him ready for the majority of the team's offseason workouts.

Fantasy Tip: Manning should be good to go for Week 1 of the regular season. All offseason workouts with the offense will be important for Manning and the rest of the receivers since they'll be learning a new system under Ben McAdoo. Manning remains more valuable as a QB2.

Wed, 15 Jan 2014 09:12:14 -0800

With the hiring of offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo, the New York Giants are admitting that they will change up their offensive approach to be more successful in 2014. "We're going to try to compromise the system with what we have here," head coach Tom Coughlin said. "However, there will be change, and that change will be very positive and very well-received by our team and players. And if our players are scrambling around to learn a new system -- good. That's another fire in their rear end." The new offensive scheme should help WR Victor Cruz, and it'll require QB Eli Manning to go through his progressions quickly and deliver the ball to playmakers in space.

Wed, 08 Jan 2014 08:55:44 -0800

You give him help and he's proven he can win a championship," Gilbride said.

Tue, 07 Jan 2014 19:26:17 -0800

New York Giants wide receivers coach Kevin M. Gilbride said Tuesday, Jan. 7, in a satellite radio interview that the struggles of QB Eli Manning were due to the collapse of the offensive line. "It just made it impossible for our quarterback to function," Gilbride said. "He's a guy where if you give him enough time, he's always going to be throwing the ball to the right person, he's going to know what you're doing defensively, he's going to see through your disguises, he's going to be an accurate passer. But he's not a scrambler and you've got to give him some help."

We need to give him some better tools and do a better job around him next year." Sat, 28 Dec 2013 07:31:03 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz said he wants to work in the offseason to eliminate any disconnect with QB Eli Manning. "This year I'll make it a point to get with Eli a little bit more … and get the receiving corps together as much as we can, to kind of build that more," Cruz said. "That's one thing we lacked … that continuity from a receiver standpoint with our quarterback. And I want to build that earlier this year. We've got to set some time apart and get the receivers down with Eli whenever he's ready and kind of just schedule it right so we can just build, not only on the field, but off the field."

Giants | Eli Manning continues to turn the ball over

Mon, 07 Oct 2013 09:26:41 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning threw three more interceptions in the team's Week 5 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, and he now leads the league with 12 picks this season. "I honestly believe that he's trying so hard to get us a win, he's almost put too much on himself," head coach Tom Coughlin said. "And I'm not making excuses. There were a couple of those plays that were terrible. The intentional grounding penalties hurt so badly, because not only distance but to lose the down. I think we can make some progress with regard to preventing that. I think we do have to sometimes just cover the ball and go down."

Fantasy Tip: It's been a tough year for the younger Manning brother. Key injuries to the Giants' offensive line hasn't helped at all, and it doesn't look to get better any time soon. Consider dropping Manning for other QB2 options on the waiver wire.

Giants | Eli Manning has rough day

Mon, 16 Sep 2013 10:28:48 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning tossed four interceptions against the Denver Broncos in a loss in Week 2, and he has seven interceptions in the first two games.

Fantasy Tip: One of the picks was a freak lucky break for the Broncos, but Manning was forcing throws in order to get back into the game in the second half. The Giants pass offense has always been aggressive, and with that, interceptions will follow. But don't expect Eli to be this bad all season.

Giants | Brandon Myers building rapport with Eli Manning

Wed, 07 Aug 2013 18:41:42 -0700

New York Giants TE Brandon Myers has been jelling nicely with QB Eli Manning so far during training camp, and the two have been connecting on some long passes. They have reportedly looked good during goal line drills.

Fantasy Tip: Myers really emerged as a Top 10 fantasy tight end last season, and he is working in a much better offense with a much better quarterback on a much better team this season. He seems to be flying a little bit under the radar, but he could end up being a Top 5 option at his position if he lives up to his potential and stays healthy. Don't quite think Rob Gronkowski or Jimmy Graham caliber fantasy production, but he could easily accomplish the kind of numbers we've seen from Owen Daniels, when healthy.

Giants | Eli Manning looking to be more accurate

Sat, 03 Aug 2013 16:41:50 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said he is looking to improve his accuracy because his completion percentage has dropped each of the last two seasons. "Being more accurate and better on our deep balls," Manning said. "Our big plays were down last year, and that's a big part of our offense. We're going to use play-action, we're going to get the ball down the field. We're not scared about pushing the ball down the field. But it's good when it pays off and you hit big plays and game-changing plays. Last year, I think we had opportunities to hit them and we just didn't hit them. So I think that's what we've got to get better at, is just kind of connecting on some of those deep balls."

New York Giants QB Eli Manning praised WR Rueben Randle. "A lot of times that second year you have a better feel for what's going on, what his assignments are and the ins and outs of the offense," Manning said as the Giants wrapped up OTAs. "He's confident out there. He's got a great skill set. I think he's had a great spring. I think he's done a lot of good things, made a lot of plays for us and I think he can be a great playmaker for us this year."

Giants | Eli Manning talks about players missing OTAs

Thu, 06 Jun 2013 11:22:47 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said the workouts that took place early in the offseason at Duke University were not meant to be a substitution for work that can be done during OTAs, in reference to WRs Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz missing the team workouts. "You got some work, but I was really hoping that would be a little starter course to the spring and not a substitute for what we're doing on the field right now," Manning said Thursday, following the team's OTA. "This is the stuff where you're getting to go against cornerbacks. You get to work your technique. You get to practice those things we're gonna do in the season."

Fantasy Tip: While it is not ideal that Cruz and Nicks are missing OTAs, it should not take long for them to regain their chemistry with Manning once they do return to practice.

Giants | Rueben Randle knows extra reps are important

Fri, 31 May 2013 06:36:11 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Rueben Randle said he knows how important the extra reps he is getting during organized team activities are because it gives him more time to work with QB Eli Manning and show the coaches what he can do. "I'm a lot more confident in what I do," he said. "Going out there and making more plays, understanding the offense and more on the same page with Eli. And also, getting more trust from the coaches, and going out there and getting more reps so I can show my ability more."

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said he hopes WR Victor Cruz attends organized team activities next week. "We get into some real practices next week so hopefully as we get into those live going-against-the-defense practices he'll get back in so we can get back to work," Manning said.

Giants | Hakeem Nicks has been running

Mon, 15 Apr 2013 15:20:37 -0700

New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks (knee) said he has been running at full speed for a few weeks and is happy that he recently worked out with QB Eli Manning. "I kept it simple because it was my first time running routes," Nicks said. "I wasn't about to go out there and it's still early right now. So my biggest thing is that I want my presence to be felt there with Eli. Because it is something that I do week-to-week. We're on the same page."

Fantasy Tip: Nicks dealt with injuries during the 2012 season and underwent knee surgery this offseason in hopes of fixing his knee. Nicks should be a solid No. 2 wide receiver on teams next season if he is healthy. Hicks could have a chance to be a low-end No. 1 receiver if Victor Cruz is not on the team.

Giants | Eli Manning getting jump start

Wed, 10 Apr 2013 18:15:42 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning is preparing for the 2013 season by working out this week at Duke University in North Carolina, and he is assuming he'll have his receiving corps intact. Manning has been working out with restricted free-agent WRs Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks (knee) and newcomer Louis Murphy. "(I'm) here with Coach Cutcliffe (to) have him work with my mechanics, get everything sharp and get everything prepared," Manning said Wednesday, April 10. "So when we start workouts next week, I am going there ready to go and improving and ready to get better."

Fantasy Tip: Manning is making strides to get better, and working with Coach Cut will hopefully help him cut down on his mistakes in 2013. He is already a bona fide No. 1 fantasy option, but he could be Top 5 at his position if he continues to show improvement.
