Giants | Eli Manning has quiet night

Sun, 12 Oct 2014 20:02:38 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning completed 13 of his 23 pass attempts for 151 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 6 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was lifted in the final minutes of the fourth quarter in favor backup QB Ryan Nassib.

Fantasy Tip: Manning was rolling right along, and Week 6 looked to be a favorable matchup. Manning faces another difficult matchup in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys, a team which really clamped down on Russell Wilson in Sunday's win.

Giants | Multi-TD game coming for Eli?

Fri, 10 Oct 2014 21:40:27 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning will face the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6. In his past nine starts against the Eagles, Manning has thrown two or more touchdown passes in seven of those outings. He has also thrown for 246 or more yards in six of the past seven against Philadelphia.

Fantasy Tip: At just $6700 (or 13.4 percent of the salary cap), Manning is an intriguing option in FantasyScore this weekend as the 20th-most expensive option on the board at his position.

Giants | Eli Manning has new approach

Tue, 07 Oct 2014 20:56:40 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning has been asked to throw the ball away more this year by quarterbacks coach Danny Langsdorf in order to limit the number of times he is sacked and the number of high-risk throws he makes. The new approach has Manning completing a career-best 66.3 percent of his passes, and he is currently on pace for a career-high 36 touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: Manning's salary of $6,700 (13.4% of cap) at FantasyScore in Week 6 ranks 20th at the position, making him a potential bargain against a Philadelphia defense that ranks 29th against the pass.

Giants | Eli Manning comfortable in offense

Fri, 26 Sep 2014 09:00:05 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning has become comfortable in the new offense, and he has worked efficiently in the no-huddle. In Week 4 against the Washington Redskins Thursday, Sept. 25, Manning was 20-for-27 on throws 10 yards or shorter, and all four of his touchdown passes came on such passes. "Yes, starting to like the offense," Manning said. "It's fun. Each week we have some new things and different plays that will work. I think everybody, offensive linemen, receivers, are starting to feel the tempo of things and see what we can do in this offense. We just have to keep working." Head coach Tom Coughlin and offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo have successfully tailored their offense to fit their personnel.

Fantasy Tip: Manning pleased his owners and then some with his Thursday night performance. Next week against the Atlanta Falcons could yield more big numbers for Manning. Odell Beckham Jr. could return in Week 5, too, giving the offense a legitimate deep threat.

Giants | Eli Manning sharp in rout

Thu, 25 Sep 2014 20:47:27 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning threw for 300 yards and four scores and rushed for a touchdown in the team's 45-14 win over the Washington Redskins Thursday, Sept. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Manning is one of the streakiest quarterbacks in the game, but his performance Thursday was a reminder of just how good he can be. The problem from a fantasy standpoint is that you never know if Manning is going to be the player that has won two Super Bowl MVPs or the one that has led the NFL in interceptions three times. He is a high-risk, high-reward pick at FantasyScore.

Giants | Eli Manning struggling on deep passes

Thu, 25 Sep 2014 13:30:29 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning has looked more comfortable in offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's system the last two weeks, but he's still struggling on deep passes. Manning is 0-for-7 with an interception on passes past 20 yards this year. He completed only 28.6 percent of downfield passes for a passer rating of 62.9 last year, too. Manning completed 36.3 percent of downfield passes from 2009 to 2012, though.

Fantasy Tip: Manning finally may be coming around in the new offense, but his lack of success down the field is concerning. As Hanzus notes, the return of Odell Beckham Jr., likely in Week 5, could help boost that part of Manning's game. Tonight against the Washington Redskins, Manning ($5,800 at FantasyScore) could yield some serious profit.

Giants | Eli Manning more comfortable

Wed, 24 Sep 2014 09:48:08 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said he is starting to feel more comfortable in the team's new offense after he completed 75 percent of his passes in Week 3 with two touchdowns. "It's coming around," Manning said. "You need some live games. Practice is one thing. Live games are different. It's a different speed, a different pace. It's seeing things. That's where you get your best reps and a better feel for things."

Fantasy Tip: Manning has had his struggles in the new offense but appears to be getting a better handle of the scheme. Manning costs $5,800 on FantasyScore this week, but owners may want to hold off on using him until he produces on a more consistent basis.

Giants | Eli Manning has support from coordinator

Fri, 12 Sep 2014 15:52:00 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning has struggled to pick up the team's new West Coast offense in four preseason games and the regular season opener, but offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo continues to believe that Manning is the right guy for the job. "He is the perfect fit for this offense," McAdoo said. "He is very smart. I thought that if there was anything encouraging about what happened in the game (the 35-14 loss to the Detroit Lions), it was the comfort level with his feet and the progress that he is making fundamentally." McAdoo said that progress is coming, but "we aren't going to apologize" if it takes weeks or longer. McAdoo also said that he wants to get the ball to WRs Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle more often.

Fantasy Tip: The G-Men are facing solid cornerbacks from the Arizona Cardinals this weekend, so more struggles could be in store. Until Manning gains your trust, it'd be wise to avoid him in FantasyScore.

Giants | Eli Manning a work in progress

Thu, 11 Sep 2014 13:16:55 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning struggled to grasp the team's new West Coast offense in the preseason, and it carried over into Week 1 against the Detroit Lions. Arizona Cardinals head coach and offensive guru Bruce Arians thinks it could take as long as half a season to reprogram a veteran quarterback in a new offense. "I try to never judge a quarterback in a new offense until Week 8," Arians said. He said QB Carson Palmer didn't understand their new vertical attack last year until Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: The injury-depleted Cardinals played well against the San Diego Chargers in Week 1, and that could continue if Manning and the Giants continue to struggle on offense. It'd be wise to avoid Manning and his $5,200 salary at FantasyScore.

Giants | Offense a work in progress

Fri, 29 Aug 2014 14:44:35 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said the team's new offense has room for improvement, but he is not concerned. "I think we're still trying to get it exactly the way we want it," Manning said Friday. "It's a work in progress. There's definitely room for improvement, and that will be a season-long situation, which I think is normal. That's not a bad thing. I think we have to know what we do well and where we need to make our improvements and be harsh on ourselves to make those improvements."

Fantasy Tip: While the passing game has struggled through out the preseason, the Giants have had success running the ball. The team may lean on the running game in the early part of the season while the passing game catches up.

Giants | Eli Manning to start Thursday

Mon, 25 Aug 2014 16:21:35 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning and the rest of the starters will play around 15 to 18 snaps in the team's preseason finale against the New England Patriots Thursday, Aug. 28, according to head coach Tom Coughlin. The Giants offense has struggled in the preseason, and Manning threw his first touchdown pass last week.

Fantasy Tip: The G-Men will not head into Week 1 firing on all cylinders on offense, and it might take a good portion of the early season for them to get on the same page. That doesn't speak well for Manning and the rest of his offensive weapons.

Giants | Receivers inconsistent

Tue, 19 Aug 2014 08:19:25 -0700

New York Giants WRs Victor Cruz, Rueben Randle, Jerrel Jernigan and Mario Manningham have not made many big plays this preseason. Cruz initially caught a long play-action pass Saturday, Aug. 16, but dropped it. Randle has one catch for 12 yards in three games. Jernigan has not carried over his momentum from late last season, per head coach Tom Coughlin, and also dropped a throw from Eli Manning Saturday. Corey Washington has three touchdowns but received fewer first-string practice reps than Manningham in first-string practice reps Monday, Aug. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Add in Odell Beckham Jr.'s injury, and there's little reason to believe in this offense right now. At least this may make them cheaper fantasy options.

Giants | Eli Manning not throwing ball downfield

Sun, 10 Aug 2014 10:46:44 -0700

In two preseason appearances spanning two quarters, New York Giants QB Eli Manning has yet to throw a pass that has traveled more than 10 yards in the air - most likely the result of offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo lacking confidence in his offensive line. He went 0-for-2 and was sacked once in four offensive series against the Pittsburgh Steelers Saturday, Aug. 9.

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 13:06:54 -0700

Giants | Want high completion percentage from Eli Manning

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 10:43:36 -0700

The New York Giants are looking for QB Eli Manning to complete at least 70 percent of his passes this upcoming season, according to quarterbacks coach Danny Langsdorf. "He's well aware of who's done it in the past and what the system can get you in terms of completion," Langsdorf said. "So we're trying to focus on that and really trying to do a good job of taking care of the ball and hitting open receivers."

Fantasy Tip: Manning is coming off a difficult 2013 season and has been working on learning the new offense this offseason. Owners should consider Manning as a No. 2 quarterback at this point, because he may have some issues with the offense early on and there are questions with the team's running backs and offensive line.

Giants | Eli Manning's ankle looks fine

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 21:13:07 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning (ankle) has shown no ill effects during camp from ankle surgery that sidelined him for earlier offseason activities.

Fantasy Tip: Although it's good news that Manning is healthy, it doesn't change the fact that he will be playing behind a questionable offensive line and has led the NFL in interceptions three times. Draft him as a QB2.

Giants | Eli Manning doesn't run at camp

Mon, 21 Jul 2014 20:15:52 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning didn't run with the team at training camp Monday, July 21, and threw on the side with coaches instead. Manning said that not running had nothing to do with his offseason ankle surgery.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Manning just didn't want to run, and when you are a star QB, you donít have to. Consider him a QB2 in most fantasy formats heading into the season.

Giants | Tom Coughlin sees big things for Eli Manning

Thu, 19 Jun 2014 13:03:31 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning is in line to return to playing at a championship level in a more up-tempo, West Coast offense, according to head coach Tom Coughlin. Coughlin thinks the process of Manning and the rest of the players learning a new process and system will make them more successful and productive.

Fantasy Tip: Manning had one of his worst statistical seasons in 2013 behind a weak offensive line. Behind Victor Cruz in the passing game, the G-Men have an intriguing cast of youngsters with plenty of upside. We think the new offense should help, too, but not enough to push Manning out of QB2 territory.

Giants | Eli Manning has learning curve with new offense

Tue, 10 Jun 2014 10:53:20 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning, who has taken repetitions in organized team activities, admitted that there is a bit of a learning curve this offseason when it comes to learning new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's offense. "Only seven practices, so no, we haven't gotten everything down. I'm not 100 percent on everything going on," Manning said. "There are still some learning curves and things I gotta digest and think through. But the more reps you get at, the more looks you get, the better you're getting."

Fantasy Tip: Manning had his worst statistical season in 2013, as he tried to carry the team too much and wound up making bad decisions the majority of the time. Coming off offseason surgery and learning a new offense isn't ideal, either, although it'll be hard for him not to improve on his numbers in 2014. Regardless, Manning is no more than a midrange QB2 with upside in some weeks based off of matchups.

Thu, 08 May 2014 18:23:28 -0700

The New York Giants selected Louisiana State WR Odell Beckham Jr. with the 12th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: They decided to go with a complementary weapon for Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle. Eli Manning is still a sound fantasy backup who has a bit more potential if New York can protect him a bit better. Beckham is a better long-term prospect than for 2014, but he's a capable reserve fantasy catcher due to his speed. Maybe Ben McAdoo will use him creatively.

They certainly made a move to do that by bringing in three interior offensive linemen and as soon as they get somebody that's going to be productive for them as an outside receiver. Giants | More on Eli Manning's surgery

Thu, 10 Apr 2014 12:33:29 -0700

New York Giants QB Eli Manning (ankle) said he should be able to run again in six weeks after undergoing a "debridement" of his left ankle Thursday, April 10. "I went through the recovery and rehab after suffering the sprain," Manning said. "I was still experiencing some discomfort as I began my normal offseason preparation, and after consultation, we felt the right thing was to have Dr. Anderson clean out the ankle." Manning's timetable should have him ready for the majority of the team's offseason workouts.

Fantasy Tip: Manning should be good to go for Week 1 of the regular season. All offseason workouts with the offense will be important for Manning and the rest of the receivers since they'll be learning a new system under Ben McAdoo. Manning remains more valuable as a QB2.
