Broncos | Peyton Manning's illness behind him

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 16:14:46 -0800

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (thigh, illness) said his illness is behind him, and he was receiving treatment for his thigh Thursday, Dec. 18. Head coach John Fox called Manning day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: Manning ($8,800) should be good to go for Monday night against the Cincinnati Bengals. However, his FantasyScore price seems a bit high these days with the Broncos favoring the run in recent weeks.

Broncos | Peyton Manning officially limited

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 15:27:30 -0800

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (thigh) was officially listed as limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Manning ($8,800) didn't do much today as the team has an extra day of rest before their Monday night tilt against the Cincinnati Bengals. The extra day to rest should do Manning well, but the team's move to a more run-centered game has faded his fantasy allure. Manning's price tag at FantasyScore seems a bit too pricey right now.

Broncos | Peyton Manning to practice Friday

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 11:01:02 -0800

Updating previous reports, Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (thigh) is expected to practice Friday, Dec. 18, after getting Thursday, Dec. 17 off.

Fantasy Tip: It still appears like Manning will be ready to go for the team's Week 16 game. It may be tough for him to live up to the expectations of a FantasyScore price of $8,800 though, especially with how the team has run the ball in recent weeks.

Broncos | Peyton Manning receiving day off

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 10:42:39 -0800

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (thigh) left practice early Thursday, Dec. 18, because he is receiving a scheduled day of rest. Manning was not limping when he was walking to the locker room.

Fantasy Tip: Manning likely will be able to play in Week 16, but has seen some of his passing numbers go down over the last several weeks. Manning has on thrown for more than 257 yards in the last four games and only has three touchdown passes in the last three games. Manning costs $8,800 on FantasyScore, which may be too expensive for some owners based on what Manning has been doing recently.

Broncos | Peyton Manning leaves practice

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 10:31:12 -0800

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (thigh) left practice early Thursday, Dec. 18, to get treatment for a thigh issue.

Fantasy Tip: Manning will cost $8,800 in FantasyScore this week, but that may be a lot to pay if the Broncos run the ball a lot this week against the Cincinnati Bengals. It may be hard for Manning to live up to expectations.

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 05:50:38 -0800

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning's contract runs through the 2016 season, and beat writer Mike Klis believes Manning will play out the contract.

Fantasy Tip: Manning's health and declining arm strength are always a concern, but he should continue to be a top-five quarterback option in traditional leagues.

Broncos | Broncos balancing offense

Tue, 16 Dec 2014 14:20:28 -0800

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (illness, thigh) was 17-for-20 passing for the second straight week in Week 15 against the San Diego Chargers, but this time he threw for 233 yards and a touchdown in the win. The Broncos have tried to balance out their offense in the last three weeks as Manning has completed 17, 14 and 14 passes respectively in those games. He was also ill against the Chargers, but Denver is adjusting to defenses as they try to take the middle of the field away from No. 18. Manning's 28 completions in Weeks 14 and 15 are his lowest total in consecutive games since 2005, and his 45 completions in the last three games are the lowest three-game stretch of his career.

Fantasy Tip: The new and improved balanced offense in Denver is good for their football team, but it surely is bad news for Manning's fantasy value. The matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals looks like another great opportunity for Denver's ground game, as well, so spending $8,800 on Manning at FantasyScore might be the wrong move.

Broncos | Peyton Manning day-to-day

Mon, 15 Dec 2014 14:14:00 -0800

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (illness, thigh) was feeling much better Monday, Dec. 15, and he's listed as day-to-day, according to head coach John Fox.

Fantasy Tip: Manning should be fine for Week 15's matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night, and he'll benefit from an extra day of rest this week. However, it's becoming increasingly hard to justify spending big bucks on Manning at FantasyScore because of the team's insistence on running the ball so much in recent weeks.

Broncos | Peyton Manning fine for Week 16

Mon, 15 Dec 2014 07:00:36 -0800

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (thigh, illness) is not expected to be in danger of missing Week 16. The thigh injury is believed to be related to his illness, and the team isn't concerned.

Fantasy Tip: Manning has an OK matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 16 and should be a solid play on FantasyScore.

Titans | Peyton Manning a future owner?

Mon, 15 Dec 2014 00:29:18 -0800

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning has been floated as part of a future ownership group in the Tennessee Titans. The team is currently owned by Tommie Smith, son-in-law of the late Bud Adams, but Smith's family is reportedly not interested in long-term control. Manning would have to retire before joining ownership or front office ranks, and no movement on his future on the field has been reported.

Broncos | Peyton Manning starts second half

Sun, 14 Dec 2014 14:52:46 -0800

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (thigh) started the second half of the Week 15 game against the San Diego Chargers.

Fantasy Tip: There were some conflicting reports that he might not return, others that had him probable, etc. He is on the field, and we see him with our eyes. He hasn't done a whole lot for FantasyScore owners, but there is still plenty of football left.

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (thigh) headed to the locker room in the second quarter of the Week 15 game against the San Diego Chargers due to a thigh injury. He is considered probable to return.

Fantasy Tip: There is another report that Manning went for intravenous fluids for a possible cramp. Either way, it sounds as if he'll be fine for the start of the second half.

Broncos | Peyton Manning fine physically

Fri, 12 Dec 2014 12:58:56 -0800

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning said he feels physically better this season than he did at any point last year when he had injuries to both of his ankles. "I'm always trying to play better," Manning said. "We always watch the film of the games pretty critically with my coaches, trying to improve, whether we won the game or lost the game, trying to see how I can do my job better in whatever phase that is. I feel good physically, [but] certainly I'm always looking to play better."

Fantasy Tip: Manning's health hasn't been an issue this year, but his lack of passing attempts the last several weeks has, which has led to two straight performances of under 200 yards, including no touchdowns in Week 14. As the Broncos continue to run the ball more, Manning has suffered. However, in Week 15 against the San Diego Chargers, Manning should be forced to throw more often, making it more acceptable to spend $8,900 on him at FantasyScore.

Broncos | Peyton Manning's TD streak ends

Sun, 07 Dec 2014 16:10:43 -0800

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning failed to throw a touchdown pass in the Week 14 win against the Buffalo Bills, ending his streak at 54 straight games with a scoring strike.

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos did it on the ground, especially in the red zone, and Manning comes up just three short of the NFL record of 57 straight games with a TD pass held by New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees.

Broncos | Peyton Manning held under 200 yards

Mon, 01 Dec 2014 09:40:19 -0800

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning was held to just 179 yards passing in the team's Week 13 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, but he did toss two touchdowns in the game. The Chiefs haven't allowed a 300-yard passer all season.

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos have been focused on running the ball more in recent weeks, and they've had success, so Manning hasn't been forced to throw the ball as much. That could be the case again in Week 14 against the Buffalo Bills, who are a strong defensive unit.

Broncos | Peyton Manning's record streak ends

Sun, 16 Nov 2014 17:19:52 -0800

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning saw his NFL record streak of 15 games with at least two touchdown passes ended in Week 11 against the St. Louis Rams.

Fantasy Tip: Manning completed 34 of his 54 pass attempts for 389 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's Week 11 loss. He'll look to bounce back in Week 12 for FantasyScore owners against the Miami Dolphins.

Broncos | Expect Peyton Manning to continue career

Sun, 16 Nov 2014 07:07:40 -0800

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning is expected to play at least one more season, and the team is planning for Manning to continue his career. Manning could consider retirement if he wins the Super Bowl.

Fantasy Tip: Manning has not shown any signs of slowing down this season and has been one of the top fantasy quarterbacks in 2014. Manning is one of the most expensive quarterbacks on FantasyScore at $9,000 but likely is worth the money if owners are willing to spend it.

Broncos | Peyton Manning tosses 5 TDs

Sun, 09 Nov 2014 19:21:53 -0800

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning threw a pair of interceptions early in Week 10 against the Oakland Raiders, but he finished 340 yards and five touchdowns in the win. He threw two touchdowns each to TE Julius Thomas and WR Emmanuel Sanders. Manning extended his record with at least two touchdown passes to 15 straight games.

Fantasy Tip: Manning is clearly an elite QB1 and a must-start each week in fantasy leagues. The rough start was a bit of a surprise, but he rebounded like the pro he is and delivered for his owners. He's a strong play again next week at the St. Louis Rams.

Broncos | Peyton Manning sets NFL record

Sun, 09 Nov 2014 17:03:04 -0800

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning completed 31 of his 44 pass attempts for 340 yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions in the Week 10 game against the Oakland Raiders. Manning extended his record with at least two touchdown passes to 15 straight games, and his streak of 48 straight games with at least one TD pass is the third longest, breaking a tie with former Baltimore Colts QB Johnny Unitas.

Fantasy Tip: Manning also has an NFL record nine career games with five touchdown passes. After he said he "stunk" last week, Manning was obviously back to his normal self against the winless Raiders.

Broncos | Peyton Manning picks on the weak

Fri, 07 Nov 2014 20:56:28 -0800

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning is 8-0 against winless teams after Week 3 in his career, and his teams are averaging 31.0 points per game in those contests. The Broncos take on the winless Oakland Raiders in Week 10.

Fantasy Tip: If this trend continues, Manning and the Broncos will put up some serious stat lines. FantasyScore owners will get a good return, even after spending $9,000 (or 18.0 percent of the salary cap).

Broncos | Tough matchup for Peyton Manning?

Tue, 30 Sep 2014 20:52:13 -0700

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning has struggled against current Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles in the past, throwing eight touchdowns and seven interceptions in five meetings with Bowles-coached defenses.

Fantasy Tip: Manning is the closest thing to a matchup-proof quarterback, but Bowles' defenses have at least held him in check, and the Cardinals have excellent personnel in their secondary. Manning's $8,800 salary (17.8% of cap) is the second-highest of any player at the position, and he could struggle to live up to the hefty price tag in Week 5.

Broncos | Peyton Manning tops old team

Sun, 07 Sep 2014 20:50:14 -0700

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning completed 22 of his 36 pass attempts for 269 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 1 game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Fantasy Tip: Now that he has beaten his former team, he joins Brett Favre as the only quarterback in NFL history to record a win against all 32 teams in the league. He remains a tremendous FantasyScore option heading into Week 2, even if he comes with a hefty salary. In Denver's high-octane offense, rarely will Manning have a poor stat line.

Broncos | Peyton Manning frustrated with practice

Tue, 19 Aug 2014 13:30:17 -0700

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning was disappointed with how the Broncos' offense played against the Houston Texans in practice Tuesday, Aug. 19. "I thought our offense stunk. I thought their defense kicked our butt. We will learn from the film, and hopefully we come out tomorrow and do a better job from a players' standpoint and execute."

Fantasy Tip: Not a lot should be gleaned from one joint practice. The Broncos have looked dominant this preseason and Manning is still the No. 1 fantasy quarterback to draft.

Broncos | Ryan Clady makes a difference

Fri, 08 Aug 2014 15:51:17 -0700

Denver Broncos OT Ryan Clady was a brick against edge rushers in the team's preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, Aug. 8. QB Peyton Manning was able to step up in the pocket against the Seahawks, something he was unable to do in the Super Bowl loss to the same team.

Fantasy Tip: Manning and his fantasy owners this year will welcome Clady's return to the offensive line with open arms. Stepping up in the pocket is big for Manning and his comfortability.

Broncos | Emmanuel Sanders compares QBs

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 17:11:56 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders said QB Peyton Manning is a "better leader" than Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger. "This is the first time that I had a quarterback that stays every single day after practice, no matter what his accolades," Sanders said. "From NFL MVP, Super Bowl rings. He keeps guys like me and (Cody) Latimer after practice and we're out there 15, 20 minutes. And he's not one of those guys you gotta go chase down, he's gonna be right at the same spot ready to work, every single day."

Fantasy Tip: Sanders is set to be the No. 3 receiver for the Broncos this season, and the extra work he is putting in with Manning should help him hit the ground running when the season begins. He is worth drafting in the middle rounds as a WR3 in fantasy leagues.

Broncos | Looking to have more efficient running game

Mon, 07 Jul 2014 11:17:35 -0700

The Denver Broncos will still be a passing team but want to have a more efficient running game since they will be facing more defensive subpackages during games. "We're always going to try to get the best look, to do the best thing in each situation for the offense to be successful," offensive coordinator Adam Gase said. "The more things we can do, the more options we have. We want to be able to execute the plays we want in those situations. If that's throwing, that's throwing the ball, if it's running, then we want that available, too." A better running game will also help QB Peyton Manning's play-action passing.

Fantasy Tip: Montee Ball is entering this upcoming season as the starter and should have space to run with opponents worrying about the teams running game. Ball should be a starter in every league and likely will be selected in the first two or three rounds.

Broncos | Peyton Manning was NFL's most accurate QB last year

Fri, 04 Jul 2014 10:06:27 -0700

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning ranked first in the NFL last year in "catchable" passes, according to Stats Inc. He also ranked above the league average in terms of completion percentage on both short and deep throw to all areas of the field.

Fantasy Tip: While his arm strength has been questioned in recent years, the fact that his accuracy remains elite should help ensure that Manning continues to put up huge offensive numbers.

Broncos | Peyton Manning not acting differently this year

Wed, 11 Jun 2014 15:04:20 -0700

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning isn't going into the 2014 season treating it any differently than he has previous seasons, according to TE Julius Thomas. "I don't think we have any additional pressure because of Peyton's age. He is going to come out here and he is going to expect the best of us day in and day out, and it is up to us all to live up to that," Thomas said.

Fantasy Tip: Manning won't match his record-setting numbers from 2013, but Denver's offense is still among the most potent in the league, despite losing a few weapons. You'll have to pay a hefty price for his services this year as likely the first QB off the board.

Broncos | Peyton Manning still not all the way back

Tue, 06 May 2014 07:07:03 -0700

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (neck) said he's still not all the way back to 100 percent after his 2011 neck surgery. "I'm not 100 percent compared to what I was before my surgery, but I have made strides each season and this year felt a lot better than the year before," Manning said. "But these nerves just go at their own pace. It's not like it's going to have this immediate recovery one day." Manning said it took time and repetition to get back to where he could control his passes. "It was weak and I lost awareness of my arm in space, a proprioception issue," Manning said. "So I just used to sit in front of a mirror and go through my throwing motions, trying to get the feel back the way I'd always thrown before. I was trying to throw to some receivers, so I would throw to you and the ball would go (points finger) there. That was very scary."

Fantasy Tip: Nothing out of the ordinary is expected to be found during Manning's checkup. Expect him to be one of the first QBs off the board early in this year's fantasy drafts. Regression should be factored in, obviously, but barring injury, he should be a safe QB1 option.

Jaguars | Will not force picking a quarterback

Wed, 19 Feb 2014 13:06:37 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell said if you try to force picking a quarterback at a certain point in a draft, you can make a mistake. "In today's day and age, if you can't get Peyton Manning or Matt Ryan, and they might not be available for the next 10 or 15 years, then you have to adapt and build the roster and do what's best for the organization," Caldwell said. "And if a quarterback presents itself later in the draft, you take and develop him. Having a franchise guy makes the world a lot easier, though. It can erase a lot of mistakes you make. But if you force it, you can screw it up. I don't know if we're going to find that guy, but I hope we do."
