ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney reports New York Yankees pitching coach Ron Guidry is not expected to be invited back next season, regardless of whether or not manager Joe Torre returns.

Yankees | Long comes in as hitting coach

The Associated Press reports the New York Yankees have selected Kevin Long to take over as the hitting coach after three seasons in that role with the Triple-A Columbus Clippers of the International League. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said the other coaches - Ron Guidry (pitching), Larry Bowa (third base), Tony Pena (first base) and Joe Kerrigan (bullpen) - want to return and that he is trying to work out contracts.

Mark Feinsand, of Yankees.MLB.com, reports the New York Yankees hired Ron Guidry as pitching coach Friday, Nov. 4. Guidry, a retired starting pitcher, played 14 seasons for the Yankees.

The Hartford Courant's Dom Amore is reporting former New York Yankees SP Ron Guidry is the front-runner to become the team's next pitching coach, replacing Mel Stottlemyre.

Yankees | Rivera Throws On Mound

The Newark Star-Ledger's Ed Price reports New York Yankees CL Mariano Rivera (elbow) played catch Thursday, March 17 for the first time in four days, but his return to the mound remains undetermined. Rivera threw for 17 minutes with guest instructor Ron Guidry and bullpen coach Neil Allen, gradually increasing from about 30 feet to about 90 feet while throwing lightly. Rivera went back to about 40 feet for 10 final, harder throws.
