Braves | A.J. Pierzynski not in lineup

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 11:56:43 -0700

Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Aug. 26. C Christian Bethancourt is starting and hitting seventh against Colorado Rockies SP Yohan Flande. Also, OF Jonny Gomes is starting in left field and hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Against Flande, using Bethancourt ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) and Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) aren't bad considerations if you're looking for salary cap relief. Gomes, especially, could return nice value in the middle of the order against a lefty.

Braves | Jonny Gomes excels at cleanup

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 22:48:50 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jonny Gomes went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and three RBIs Monday, Aug. 24, against the Colorado Rockies while batting in the cleanup spot.

Fantasy Tip: Manager Fredi Gonzalez moved Gomes to cleanup due to the fact he hits 50 points higher against left-handed pitchers than right-handers. At $2,500 (5.0% of cap) he is a decent low-end FantasyScore play when facing LHP.

Braves | Jonny Gomes hitting cleanup

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 13:21:41 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jonny Gomes is playing left field and batting fourth against Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa Monday, Aug. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has historically hit well against lefties, but this season he boasts an underwhelming .227 batting average and .379 slugging percentage against southpaws. FantasyScore players should view Gomes as a high-risk, high-reward option for contests Monday.

Braves | Adonis Garcia to play LF?

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 17:10:33 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Adonis Garcia could wind up splitting time in left field with OFs Michael Bourn and Jonny Gomes after the team promotes 3B Hector Olivera from the minors. The move is expected to take place Monday, Aug. 24, before a homestand against the Colorado Rockies.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia ($3,500, 7.0% of cap), Bourn ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) and Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) won't have much value outside of NL-only seasonal leagues once Olivera is promoted. FantasyScore owners may want to consider one of these three players only if they have a favorable matchup but none of them should be relied upon on a consistent basis.

Braves | No Michael Bourn against lefty

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 13:31:20 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Michael Bourn is not in the lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks left-handed SP Robbie Ray Friday, Aug. 14. OF Jonny Gomes is starting in left field and hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) isn't your prototypical cleanup hitter, and he's struggled offensively all season long in limited duty. Ray has impressed in his return from Tommy John surgery, too, so Gomes really shouldn't be all that attractive to daily gamers despite the favorable lineup position.

Braves | Michael Bourn not in Sunday lineup

Sun, 09 Aug 2015 13:56:12 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Michael Bourn is not in the starting lineup Sunday, Aug. 9, against the Miami Marlins. OF Jonny Gomes is in left.

Fantasy Tip: Bourn ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) has a left vs. left matchup as Brad Hand is pitching for the Marlins. Bourn has a .222 average against Hand, so the team is playing the percentages. Bench Bourn in your lineup. As for Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap), he hits .250 against Hand, so you may want to look elsewhere.

Braves | Cameron Maybin sitting vs. Giants

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 15:42:08 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Cameron Maybin is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Aug. 5. OF Jonny Gomes is playing left field and batting third against San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Maybin ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has been struggling of late, and with Bumgarner ($9,500, 19.0% of cap) on the hill, it is a good night to provide Maybin with a breather. Over his past 20 games, Maybin has a .171/.209/.195 slash line with seven runs, two doubles, three RBI and three stolen bases. It isn't out of the question to avoid him in all fantasy formats until he heats back up at the dish. With the tough matchup, aim higher than Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) at FantasyScore Wednesday.

Braves | Jonny Gomes batting third vs. Giants

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 15:16:45 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jonny Gomes is starting in left field and batting third against San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner Wednesday, Aug. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) would typically be worth considering as a FantasyScore value play hitting third, but Bumgarner ($9,500, 19.0% of cap) presents a daunting matchup.

Braves | Jonny Gomes starting in left

Sun, 02 Aug 2015 08:08:31 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jonny Gomes will start in left field and hit fifth in the order Sunday, Aug. 2, against the Philadelphia Phillies and LHP Adam Morgan.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is hitting just .231 against left-handed pitching, and he's no longer relevant for FantasyScore purposes.

Braves | Jonny Gomes expected to be dealt

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 11:41:56 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jonny Gomes is expected to be dealt before the trade deadline Friday, July 31, and there are a few teams interested in him, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) could be a potential AL-only option if he is dealt to an American League team, but he will enter a platoon, at best. He has a career .275/.378/.480 slash line against lefties, which is why he is a potential trade candidate. He is unlikely to see regular at-bats. You'll want to keep an eye on Gomes for FantasyScore purposes, though.
