Cardinals | Royals knock around Adam Wainwright

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 22:07:04 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright struck out seven over five innings against the Kansas City Royals on Monday, June 27, but surrendered six runs on 10 hits and a walk to take the loss.

Fantasy Tip: Wainwright entered Monday with a 2.36 ERA in June, but the Royals seemed to take advantage of every hanging curveball he threw. Just like the 34-year-old three-time All-Star and his team, owners will have to shake off this performance and should expect a better outing at home against the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday.

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright walked three and struck out six over seven scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Houston Astros Wednesday, June 15, while allowing only four hits.

Fantasy Tip: Wainwright has posted a 1.80 ERA over three starts this month, with 21 strikeouts over 20 innings. He should be viewed as a viable pitching option in all fantasy formats and will make his next start against the Chicago Cubs Tuesday, June 21.

Cardinals | Adam Wainwright strikes out nine Thursday

Thu, 09 Jun 2016 19:41:28 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright allowed two runs on two hits over six innings in a no-decision against the Cincinnati Reds Thursday, June 9, with one walk and a season-high nine strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Following a slow start to the 2016 campaign, Wainwright has recorded quality starts in four of his last five outings. He has a favorable matchup for his next appearance against the free-swinging Houston Astros Wednesday, June 15.

Cardinals | Adam Wainwright has fastball back

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 18:30:39 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright said his fastball velocity has improved enough to make hitters respect the pitch again, and he has a 1.17 WHIP and .247 batting average against in his last three starts compared to a 1.58 WHIP and .330 batting average against in his first eight starts.

Fantasy Tip: His days of being a fantasy ace are over, but Wainwright is showing signs of becoming a quality mixed league option once again. You may want to pick and choose when you start him based on the matchups, but he should be owned in all leagues.

Cardinals | Adam Wainwright wins again

Sun, 29 May 2016 04:46:20 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright allowed four runs and six hits, including a career record-tying three home runs, in a 9-4 win over the Washington Nationals on Saturday, May 28. He struck out five and walked none to earn his fifth straight win.

Fantasy Tip: Wainwright started the season 0-3 and looked absolutlely lost. He's improved as the season progresses, but there are still some question marks (surrendering three homers). Still, the red flags are retreating, and Wainwright is getting more powerful as a pitcher, so give him support in DFS leagues as long as this hot streak continues.

Nationals | Wilson Ramos not starting Saturday

Sat, 28 May 2016 15:47:19 -0700

Washington Nationals C Wilson Ramos is not starting Saturday, May 28, against the St. Louis Cardinals. Ramos' replacement is C Jose Lobaton, who will bat eighth against Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright.

Fantasy Tip: This is simply a day off for Ramos, who has been in the lineup the entire week and managed at least one hit per game. Lobaton has a few hits but no extra-base power, and that should be a red flag for your DFS lineup. Leave him on the bench.

Nationals | Anthony Rendon out Saturday

Sat, 28 May 2016 15:42:28 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Anthony Rendon is not in the Saturday, May 28, starting lineup against the St. Louis Cardinals. 3B Stephen Drew will bat seventh against Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright.

Fantasy Tip: This appears to be a simple night off for Rendon, so scratch him from your DFS lineups. Drew is batting .138 at home this season and has a .105 career mark against Wainwright. Leave him on your bench.

Cardinals | Adam Wainwright decent in no-decision

Tue, 24 May 2016 00:37:34 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright scattered seven hits and stranded eight runners, while throwing 68 of his 108 pitches for strikes, in a 4-3 win over the Chicago Cubs on Monday, May 23. Wainwright did not get the decision.

Fantasy Tip: After a rocky beginning to the year, it looks like Wainwright has stabilized. That should be enough to calm the doubters for now, as it looks like Wainwright is back to pitching strong games. He has increased fantasy value now that the worst of the struggles appears to be over.

Cardinals | Adam Wainwright close to previous form

Thu, 19 May 2016 10:49:08 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright said he's as close to his previous form as he has been in more than a year after his start Wednesday, May 18. His curveball was effective, and he had life on his two-seam fastball in his 6 2/3 shutout innings.

"I think it's just a culmination of things we've been doing this whole year," Wainwright said. "We've continued to build my leg strength. We've continued to make little adjustments to my delivery. I've continued to stay positive. There were a lot of good lessons I've learned going through all that process."

Fantasy Tip: It sounds good, but he's not inducing many groundballs, and his K-rate is still a career-low 5.40 per nine innings. His curveball has been bad most of the year, and his fastball command hasn't been there. The amount of hard contact was alarming, but this previous start was a good sign. We still need to see more before jumping back on the bandwagon. He's an option in good matchups in DFS for now.

Cardinals | Adam Wainwright pitches well

Wed, 18 May 2016 22:11:01 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings against the Colorado Rockies Wednesday, May 18, to pick up his fourth win of the season. He struck out five batters and walked one during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Wainwright did not allow a run in for the first time this season but still has a 5.92 ERA so far this season. He is scheduled to face the Chicago Cubs in his next start and probably should be avoided in most fantasy leagues.
