Cardinals | Adam Wainwright shows well

Tue, 13 Oct 2015 21:29:59 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright allowed threw two perfect innings of relief in Game 4 of the National League Division Series against the Chicago Cubs Tuesday, Oct. 13, striking out one batter.

Fantasy Tip: Wainwright appeared in three games in the postseason, posting a 1.69 ERA in 5 1/3 innings in the postseason while striking out six batters. He appears to be healthy, although his future as a starter or a reliever is uncertain. If he starts, he could be a nice bounce-back candidate.

Cardinals | Adam Wainwright tosses scoreless inning

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 20:30:48 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright pitched a scoreless inning against the Atlanta Braves Friday, Oct. 2, in his second appearance since returning from surgery.

Fantasy Tip: It is hard to believe Wainwright will work his way back into the rotation at any point this year, regardless of how deep the Cardinals go in the postseason. As a result, he has basically no value at FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Adam Wainwright pitches Wednesday

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 19:18:04 -0700

In his first appearance since coming off of the disabled list, St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright (Achilles') allowed one run on two hits in one inning of relief Wednesday, Sept. 30, during the first game of a doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He walked none and struck out one.

Fantasy Tip: Wainwright will have no FantasyScore value as long as he is pitching out of the bullpen and he won't be of much use in other formats either. Manager Mike Matheny claimed that he is in the mix for a starting spot in the postseason but this is hard to fathom, given that any appearances Wainwright makes for the remainder of the regular season will be limited to one inning.

Cardinals | Adam Wainwright activated

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 06:24:38 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright (Achilles') was activated from the 60-day disabled list Wednesday, Sept. 30. SP Carlos Martinez (shoulder) was placed on the 60-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Wainwright will pitch out of the bullpen and has no FantasyScore value. His traditional league impact is minimal, too, considering the amount of potential rust he'll have. Martinez's season is over, but he's a definite dynasty league option.

Cardinals | Adam Wainwright cleared

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 13:57:23 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright (Achilles') has been cleared to appear out of the bullpen for an inning Wednesday, Sept. 30, Friday, Oct. 2, and Sunday, Oct. 4, if needed.

Fantasy Tip: With Wainwright pitching in relief he'll be unavailable at FantasyScore for the remainder of the regular season. There's a chance the Cardinals use him to start in the playoffs, but it's highly unlikely.

Cardinals | Adam Wainwright could return Wednesday

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 13:40:28 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright (Achilles') could be cleared to pitch as soon as Wednesday, Sept. 30, if he reports with no issues Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Wainwright will only return in a relief role for the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs, so he won't have any use to fantasy owners. Heading into 2016, Wainwright's status will teeter on the edge of fantasy ace territory but might be able to be had at a nice discount.

Cardinals | Adam Wainwright cleared to resume

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 18:23:44 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright (Achilles') has been cleared to resume full baseball activities, and he is expected to pitch in a simulated game next weekend. General manager John Mozeliak said Monday, Sept. 21, that is Wainwright makes it back to game action he will be used out of the bullpen rather than in the rotation. "It's bullpen, strictly," Mozeliak said. "There's no chance that we could get him to start, given the time (left)."

Fantasy Tip: With Waino to work out of the bullpen, if he even returns to game action at all, FantasyScore players needn't worry about him for the remainder of 2015. However, those in keeper leagues will be happy to see him prove his health rather than having to wait until spring training.

Cardinals | Adam Wainwright eyeing bullpen role

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 13:59:27 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright (Achilles') received clearance to return this season Monday, Sept. 21, and he could pitch out of the bullpen.

Fantasy Tip: Wainwright won't have the time to stretch out enough to start, but he could prove to be an excellent relief option and potentially in high-leverage situations. His electric pitch arsenal could shake off the rust quickly, but there isn't a lot of fantasy worth in the majority of leagues.

Cardinals | Monday huge for Adam Wainwright

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 07:13:02 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright (Achilles') will be examined by doctors Monday, Sept. 21, to determine the strength of his leg and its readiness for baseball activity. While his bullpen sessions continue to gain in intensity and pitch count, Wainwright has yet to field his position. He must be able to cover first base and get off the mound to field a bunt comfortably and without the risk of further injury for the Cardinals to consider him for game action.

Fantasy Tip: Wainwright is essentially done for the fantasy season, and this appointment has more to do with his playoff eligibility than for fantasy purposes.

Cardinals | Adam Wainwright pushing to return?

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 18:59:14 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright (Achilles') had surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles' tendon in April, but he hasn't given up on a potential return this season. However, his comeback is still considered a long shot.

Fantasy Tip: In other words, FantasyScore players need not hold out much hope for a Waino return. If you're in an NL-only league and have some roster flexibility, maybe give Wainwright a spot just in case.
