Rangers | Cole Hamels wins fourth straight start

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 19:47:42 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels completed a dazzling month over the New York Yankees on Tuesday, June 28, permitting six hits and a walk while fanning seven over as many innings. Hamels will end the month with a 4-0 record and a 1.51 ERA.

Fantasy Tip: Hamels hasn't given up more than one run in any of his last four outings and has struck out at least seven in three of them. The 2008 World Series MVP is a no-brainer start in fantasy and is slated to face the major-league worst Minnesota Twins twice before the All-Star break, so owners can continue to feel pretty confident in this southpaw.

Yankees | Brian McCann not starting Tuesday

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 13:21:25 -0700

New York Yankees C Brian McCann is not in the lineup Tuesday, June 28, against the Texas Rangers. McCann is replaced by C Austin Romine, who will bat ninth against Rangers SP Cole Hamels.

Fantasy Tip: McCann, a lefty, is sitting on the bench because Hamels is a lefty as well. Sit McCann on your bench if you can. As for Romine, he is worth a start in daily leagues because of his five hits, two doubles, and seven runs batted in over the last seven games.

Yankees | Brett Gardner not starting Tuesday

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 13:11:02 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner is out of the starting lineup Tuesday, June 28, against the Texas Rangers. OF Aaron Hicks is in left field and will hit eighth against Rangers SP Cole Hamels.

Fantasy Tip: This is a traditional lefty vs. lefty absence, so Gardner should be back in the lineup the next time a righty pitches. Hicks (.212-3-15) carries no fantasy value.

Rangers | Cole Hamels has struggled in Bronx

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 14:35:11 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels is taking an eight-game road winning streak into his start against the New York Yankees Tuesday, June 28, but he's gone 0-3 with a 5.64 ERA in four career starts against the Yankees, with two coming in New York.

Fantasy Tip: Ignore Hamels' past history against the Yanks in a small sample size. He's sporting an ERA of 2.79, WHIP of 1.22 and is fanning 8.8 hitters per nine innings in 15 starts. Plus, the Yankees are dead last in the AL with an OPS of .700 against lefty pitchers in 2016.

Rangers | Cole Hamels wins third straight

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 21:22:13 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels allowed just one run on five hits over six innings against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday, June 22. He walked two and struck out eight.

Fantasy Tip: In five June starts, this is Hamels' line: 34 2/3 IP, 22 H, 7 ER, 14 BB, 28 K's. That's good for a 3-0 record, 1.82 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. He has been extremely consistent, and at 8-1 with 95 K's in 96 2/3 innings for the season, Hamels is a must-start in all leagues.

Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels three hits while walking three and striking out six over 7 2/3 scoreless innings in a win over the St. Louis Cardinals Friday, June 17, lowering his ERA on the road to 1.64.

Fantasy Tip: Hamels has been rock solid all year. He is a must-start in all season leagues and an attractive DFS play when he starts on the road.

Rangers | Cole Hamels nets 2,000th strikeout

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 14:32:41 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels netted his 2,000th career strikeout Sunday, June 12. Only six other pitchers active (Bartolo Colon, CC Sabathia, Felix Hernandez, John Lackey, Jake Peavy, Justin Verlander) have 2,000 strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: This is a big honor for Hamels, whose 5-1 record and 78 strikeouts make him a popular fantasy option in daily, AL and mixed formats.

Mariners | Adam Lind taking a seat Sunday

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 12:18:54 -0700

Seattle Mariners 1B Adam Lind, OF Seth Smith, C Steve Clevenger and OF Nori Aoki are out of the lineup against Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels on Sunday, June 12, after drawing starts on Saturday, June 11. OF Franklin Gutierrez is in right field and hitting second, 1B Dae-Ho Lee is at first and batting fifth, C Chris Iannetta is behind the plate and hitting seventh, while SS Shawn O'Malley is in left field and batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Gutierrez is 4-for-12 with a homer in his career against Hamels and is the only one of the bunch that merits any consideration in fantasy today, although owners can probably find better alternatives with a full state of games today. Lee, who is batting .308 with 10 homers and 24 RBI, is worth adding going forward as there is speculation he will start seeing more playing time ahead of Lind against right-handers.

Rangers | Cole Hamels churns out strong outing

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 22:12:50 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels picked up a no-decision Tuesday, June 7, versus the Houston Astros despite a strong showing. The veteran southpaw registered seven innings of two-run ball, scattering four hits, four walks, and striking out four.

Fantasy Tip: Hamels has been about what fantasy owners could have hoped for in his first full season with the Rangers, but daily players should especially take note when the 32-year-old tangles with the Astros. In fact, in three starts opposing Houston now, Hamels has surrendered just four runs across 21 2/3 innings, while racking up 22 strikeouts. Even when he's not facing the Rangers' in-state rival, Hamels is proving he's still as reliable as always in 2016.

Rangers | Cole Hamels picks up no-decision

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 20:39:49 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels allowed three earned runs, six hits, three walks and five strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision Wednesday, June 1, against the Cleveland Indians.

Fantasy Tip: Hamels bounced back nicely from his worst outing of the season, but he still has just one win to show for his efforts over the past five starts. Still, he remains a must-start fantasy option across all formats.
