Rangers | Cole Hamels pitches a gem

Fri, 28 Aug 2015 20:00:41 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels allowed one run on two hits and struck out 10 over eight innings in a win over the Baltimore Orioles Friday, Aug. 28.

Fantasy Tip: This was Hamels' ($8,400, 16.8% of cap) best start since being traded to Texas and his third straight quality start. Feel free to use him at FantasyScore whenever he draws a quality matchup.

Rangers | Cole Hamels picks up first AL win

Sun, 23 Aug 2015 14:33:48 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels earned his first American League victory Sunday, Aug. 23, as the Rangers picked up a 4-2 win over the Detroit Tigers. He gave up two runs in six innings of work.

Fantasy Tip: It was a matter of time before Hamels ($8,400, 16.8% of cap) got on the right track in the American League, and he should be kept in mind for future FantasyScore performances. He appears to have gotten over the initial yips of switching leagues and facing all-new hitting.

Rangers | Cole Hamels on track for Monday

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 10:09:46 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels (groin) could be ready to return for a start against the Seattle Mariners Monday, Aug. 17. He will test his sore left groin during a bullpen session Saturday, Aug. 15. SP Chi Chi Gonzalez is starting in place of Hamels Thursday, Aug. 13, and he has a chance to stick in the rotation after SP Nick Martinez was optioned to the minors.

Fantasy Tip: You may be hesitant to use Hamels ($8,600, 17.2% of cap) on FantasyScore coming off an injury and two poor outings in his first two starts with his new team. The matchup against Seattle isn't a bad one, though, and Hamels should turn things around with Texas to finish out the year.

Rangers | Cole Hamels scratched from start

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 14:14:27 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels (groin) has been scratched from his next start Thursday, Aug. 13, due to a sore groin. He will not go on the disabled list, though, and he might only miss the one start.

Fantasy Tip: Hamels ($8,600, 17.2% of cap) has allowed nine runs in 13 2/3 innings in his first two starts with his new team - certainly not what his fantasy owners were expecting. He should be fine, though, and you can probably expect better results as he settles in following a league change.

Rangers | Cole Hamels to start Saturday

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 08:36:39 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels will make his debut for the Rangers against the San Francisco Giants Saturday, Aug. 1.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants have been a much better team on the road than at home this season. However, Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) is a quality fantasy ace, and you shouldn't be turned off by the fact that he's pitching in another hitter's park with the move to the American League West.

Rangers | TEX close to acquiring Cole Hamels

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 19:13:52 -0700

The Texas Rangers are close to acquiring SP Cole Hamels from the Philadelphia Phillies, according to multiple sources. The Phillies are believed to be receiving minor league C Jorge Alfaro and SP Jerad Eickhoff in return.

Fantasy Tip: Despite moving to the American League, Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) would receive a boost pitching for a contender. He makes a strong No. 2 fantasy starter and is a solid FantasyScore option in most games. Alfaro is batting .253 with five home runs and 21 RBIs in 49 games for Class AA Frisco and is considered one of the organization's top prospects. Eickhoff is 9-4 with a 4.30 ERA in 19 games (18 starts) for Frisco and Class AAA Round Rock.

Rangers | TEX acquires Cole Hamels, Jake Diekman

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 19:04:36 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Texas Rangers have acquired SP Cole Hamels, RP Jake Diekman and cash considerations from the Philadelphia Phillies, in exchange for SP Matt Harrison, C Jorge Alfaro, SP Jerad Eickhoff, OF Nick Williams, P Jake Thompson and P Alec Asher.

Fantasy Tip: For the first time since 2011, Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) finds himself pitching for a playoff contender and the change of scenery should give him a boost, especially considering the lack of run support he received towards the end of his tenure with the Phillies. He is expected to make his first start against the San Francisco Giants Friday, July 31, or Saturday, Aug. 1. Harrison ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in three starts since returning from spinal fusion surgery and should not be a FantasyScore option at this point. Owners in NL-only leagues or dynasty leagues may want to keep tabs on Alfaro, who is considered to be one of the better catching prospects in baseball.

Phillies | Cole Hamels headed to SF?

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 18:48:45 -0700

The Philadelphia Phillies reportedly discussed a potential trade that would have sent SP Cole Hamels to the San Francisco Giants, in exchange for C Andrew Susac, SP Tyler Beede and two minor leaguers.

Fantasy Tip: Susac ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is batting .241 with three home runs and 11 RBIs through 41 games and has his path to regular playing time behind the plate blocked by Buster Posey ($5,500, 11.0% of cap). Beede was a first-round pick in the 2014 draft and is 4-6 with a 3.47 ERA through 17 minor league starts this year. In the event that Hamels does not get traded, he is expected to start against the Atlanta Braves Friday, July 31, or Saturday, Aug. 1.

Rangers | Texas not close to landing Cole Hamels

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 14:48:25 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels isn't close to being traded to the Texas Rangers, as the two teams aren't anywhere close to an agreement on who Texas would give up for the left-hander. The Rangers refuse to trade their top prospects.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) won't be traded until later this week, and it might come right down to the deadline Friday afternoon. The Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers have been seen as the favorites, but it's anyone's guess as to where he might land. Hamels will remain a fantasy ace and should gain even more value with a move out of Philly.

Rangers | Texas front-runners for Cole Hamels

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 14:05:12 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels' trade destinations are lead by the Texas Rangers. The Los Angeles Dodgers prefer Detroit Tigers SP David Price because they feel they can re-sign him.

Fantasy Tip: In yearly formats, you'll want to see how everything shakes out before jumping to any conclusions. Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) receives a nice boost leaving Philadelphia, but it might not be enough of an upgrade to elevate him into consistent fantasy ace. Instead, view him as a strong No. 2 arm for your virtual rotation. Price ($9,100, 18.2% of cap) will remain a high-end fantasy starter, and he would receive a big boon to his fantasy stock moving to the National League and starting for a better team.
