Rangers | Cole Hamels to start Saturday

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 08:36:39 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels will make his debut for the Rangers against the San Francisco Giants Saturday, Aug. 1.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants have been a much better team on the road than at home this season. However, Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) is a quality fantasy ace, and you shouldn't be turned off by the fact that he's pitching in another hitter's park with the move to the American League West.

Rangers | TEX close to acquiring Cole Hamels

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 19:13:52 -0700

The Texas Rangers are close to acquiring SP Cole Hamels from the Philadelphia Phillies, according to multiple sources. The Phillies are believed to be receiving minor league C Jorge Alfaro and SP Jerad Eickhoff in return.

Fantasy Tip: Despite moving to the American League, Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) would receive a boost pitching for a contender. He makes a strong No. 2 fantasy starter and is a solid FantasyScore option in most games. Alfaro is batting .253 with five home runs and 21 RBIs in 49 games for Class AA Frisco and is considered one of the organization's top prospects. Eickhoff is 9-4 with a 4.30 ERA in 19 games (18 starts) for Frisco and Class AAA Round Rock.

Rangers | TEX acquires Cole Hamels, Jake Diekman

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 19:04:36 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Texas Rangers have acquired SP Cole Hamels, RP Jake Diekman and cash considerations from the Philadelphia Phillies, in exchange for SP Matt Harrison, C Jorge Alfaro, SP Jerad Eickhoff, OF Nick Williams, P Jake Thompson and P Alec Asher.

Fantasy Tip: For the first time since 2011, Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) finds himself pitching for a playoff contender and the change of scenery should give him a boost, especially considering the lack of run support he received towards the end of his tenure with the Phillies. He is expected to make his first start against the San Francisco Giants Friday, July 31, or Saturday, Aug. 1. Harrison ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in three starts since returning from spinal fusion surgery and should not be a FantasyScore option at this point. Owners in NL-only leagues or dynasty leagues may want to keep tabs on Alfaro, who is considered to be one of the better catching prospects in baseball.

Phillies | Cole Hamels headed to SF?

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 18:48:45 -0700

The Philadelphia Phillies reportedly discussed a potential trade that would have sent SP Cole Hamels to the San Francisco Giants, in exchange for C Andrew Susac, SP Tyler Beede and two minor leaguers.

Fantasy Tip: Susac ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is batting .241 with three home runs and 11 RBIs through 41 games and has his path to regular playing time behind the plate blocked by Buster Posey ($5,500, 11.0% of cap). Beede was a first-round pick in the 2014 draft and is 4-6 with a 3.47 ERA through 17 minor league starts this year. In the event that Hamels does not get traded, he is expected to start against the Atlanta Braves Friday, July 31, or Saturday, Aug. 1.

Rangers | Texas not close to landing Cole Hamels

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 14:48:25 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels isn't close to being traded to the Texas Rangers, as the two teams aren't anywhere close to an agreement on who Texas would give up for the left-hander. The Rangers refuse to trade their top prospects.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) won't be traded until later this week, and it might come right down to the deadline Friday afternoon. The Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers have been seen as the favorites, but it's anyone's guess as to where he might land. Hamels will remain a fantasy ace and should gain even more value with a move out of Philly.

Rangers | Texas front-runners for Cole Hamels

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 14:05:12 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels' trade destinations are lead by the Texas Rangers. The Los Angeles Dodgers prefer Detroit Tigers SP David Price because they feel they can re-sign him.

Fantasy Tip: In yearly formats, you'll want to see how everything shakes out before jumping to any conclusions. Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) receives a nice boost leaving Philadelphia, but it might not be enough of an upgrade to elevate him into consistent fantasy ace. Instead, view him as a strong No. 2 arm for your virtual rotation. Price ($9,100, 18.2% of cap) will remain a high-end fantasy starter, and he would receive a big boon to his fantasy stock moving to the National League and starting for a better team.

Dodgers | David Price the apple of the Dodgers' eye

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 13:51:39 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, Detroit Tigers SP David Price is the trade target of preference for the Los Angeles Dodgers over Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels. The Dodgers believe they can re-sign Price.

Fantasy Tip: Seasonal fantasy owners will want to see how everything shakes out before jumping to any conclusions. Price ($9,100, 18.2% of cap) will remain a high-end fantasy starter, and he would receive a boost moving to the National League and starting for a better team. Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap), meanwhile, stands to also receive a nice boost leaving Philadelphia, but it might not be enough of an upgrade to elevate him into fantasy ace. He'll likely remain a No. 2 arms for your virtual team.

Red Sox | Boston out of Cole Hamels sweepstakes?

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 10:27:27 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels is a trade target of the Boston Red Sox, but it looks like Boston doesn't have a good chance at landing the left-hander. The Red Sox are one of the teams Hamels can block a trade to, and it continues to be a road block in negotiations, according to a major league source. The Phillies may be zeroing in on teams that have shown interest in Hamels and that aren't on his 20-team no-trade list.

Fantasy Tip: As of right now, the Texas Rangers might be the most likely landing spot for Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap). Even with a potential move to another hitter's park, Hamels should remain a fantasy baseball ace, and his value should increase with a move to a contending club.

Giants | SF unlikely to land Cole Hamels

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 10:22:53 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels is of interest to the San Francisco Giants, but the Giants haven't been in touch with Philadelphia regarding Hamels in the last 24 hours, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Phillies are encouraging interested teams to submit their best offers for Hamels sometime today, so the Giants look to be fading from the running. The Los Angeles Dodgers just acquired Mat Latos from the Miami Marlins, so the Texas Rangers might be the sole favorite for Hamels at this point. Stay tuned.

Phillies | Cole Hamels start pushed back

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 15:55:50 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels will not start against the Atlanta Braves Thursday, July 30, and is now scheduled to start against the Braves Friday, July 31, but he may be traded before the deadline. The Phillies did not want the possibility of an injury before the deadline.

Fantasy Tip: Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) may have made his last start with the Phillies, so his next start is uncertain at this point. Hamels has received interest from several teams and could be traded in the next few days. Hamels should be a solid option on FantasyScore not matter where he plays.
